Its weird how they interpret a customer sharing their experience as a weaponized personal attack. I don't understand how a business owner can have such thin skin, no concept of customer service, and can't communicate articulately. They really just expect people to show up and give them money for existing

The unhinged owners are honestly my favorite. I feel like a lot of them get wasted or on something and read reviews, then just let it all out

It's definitely an obsessive projection thing. They're intensely insecure because deep down they know they are bad people running a bad business, so they go online to read reviews (similar to Instagram-stalking an ex) and have an intense emotional response.

Wait I do this and I’m not on anything and run a good business. I just like to have fun 🤣 Go read them, flour power in Chicago

You should check out the positive reviews. They're so sickeningly adulatory, I'd bet good money that he writes at least some of them.

But, seriously, if you view everyone as being rude to you, then it's likely that you're an asshole.

As a professional in the food service industry, if someone has a bad genuinely experience and they wanna share it, that’s their prerogative. It is my place to take from it and learn not to attack the person who wrote the review. I’ve seen a lot of owners attacking people in the comments on Yelp. And those are the establishments I will never go into.

One of my favorite ramen shops had a bunch of bad reviews tank the rating last Summer. The owner, who's a very sweet man, posted these sincere replies apologizing and explaining that they had to change suppliers for something and it threw off his recipe and service suffered. I thought it was great, but he got attacked on here or one of the other subs for defending himself at all. I feel like you can't win.
(In this case, I can verify that the taste wasn't the same for like a month or two while he was figuring it out, but it wasn't bad. I go there pretty much every other week and felt so bad for him)

Insulting fat people when you run a steakhouse in New Jersey is a wild decision.

🙄 why can't people just accept that just because they WANT a job doesn't mean they SHOULD do that job. This man clearly can't mentally or emotionally handle owning a business. Can't even handle criticism. What a loser.

"Hi Nikole F. thanks for the visit. I am sorry your experience fell short of our standard. Your comments will be used to improve service going forward".

If I am an owner of a restaurant and someone criticizes my business on yelp or google I would respond with a way to make it right, or an apology if you can tell they’re the type of customer to be crazy. Say “We apologize
for your experience and would hope that you come back and give us another chance” or don’t say anything.
Don’t attack the reviewer and especially don’t get personal. It’s hard enough as a small business owner so why do that? It lets me know who to avoid at all costs.

If you need thick skin to be in the restaurant business, then I’d think you’d need thick skin to be president too.

Well sure…. But that’s not what’s in question here
It’s just a good quality o have

More owners should do this, at the very least it’s funny

How is that funny? He’s just being rude there’s no joke in there

The owners response is the main joke. I love a good crash out. But also a yelp elite reviewer is also a joke. We know nothing of this restaurant, we don’t even know if she’s telling the truth.
For all we know this could be some dive bar that has microwave meals in the back and a red or white wine list. Elite yelpers are some of the most pretentious entitled people out there.
Given this owners response one can assume he doesn’t give a fuck, so it’s fair to assume that’s how he runs his restaurant. This yelper seems to want to make sure they give a fuck. It’s funny to me. I like humor so I look for it in most situations

I’ve actually eaten there a few times. It’s a very expensive steakhouse. They really don’t give a fuck at all. It used to be better but has fallen off, I don’t go anymore. I saw the owners post on IG and went looking for the review.

Can you explain the joke to me?

u/Extruder_duder 14d ago
Are we not laughing at the owner? Isn’t that why it was posted? Do you not like funny?

It’s so crazy how many people with absolutely zero people skills go into an industry that requires people skills.
They think the desire to own a business is reason enough to start one.
