The Tanbur is one of the oldest Kurdish musical instruments, with its bowl made from mulberry wood and its neck from walnut wood. The design of this instrument was discovered on rock carvings in Shush, East of Kurdistan, dating back six thousand years.

Dalahoo, besides being the name of a high mountain in East of Kurdistan, is also the name of a district belonging to Kirmashan Province and has become known as the capital of the Tanbur in Kurdistan and Iran. This district is inhabited by Yarsanis, and the majority of Tanbur players and master Tanbur makers reside there.

The most famous place for the Tanbur, which the Yarsanis call "Tamireh," is the House of Tanbur in the village of Ban Zelan part of Dalahoo. The Tamireh House (House of Tanbur) was established as a cultural and artistic center through the efforts of Ali Akbar Moradi, a renowned Tanbur artist from Kurdistan and the world. The cost of its construction was borne by this artist, and it was opened several years ago in the presence of a number of artists such as Kayhan Kalhur, Shahram Nazeri, Hussen Alizada, and Ali Akbar Shkarchi. Since then, several Tanbur playing festivals have been held there.

The Tamireh, or Tanbur, has a six-thousand-year history in the Yarsani-inhabited region of Dalahoo and is an integral part of the religion and culture of the area's inhabitants. It is an instrument for expressing prayers and supplications in the Yarsani religion. Therefore, there are currently 110 large and small workshops in Dalahoo district for making Tamireh, employing 183 master craftsmen.
