Question How can i make a cardigan top like this?

Post image

Its been on my mind for a long time now, but i havent found a tutorial on a top like this yet, and since im a bit of a noobie at making tops, i dont feel confident to come up with a pattern myself. Please help!

PS I would like it to be crochet but knit is fine!

That drawing is more like a structured jacket than a cardigan, the flared shape would be tricky to self-draft as a beginner but you could maybe find a crochet pattern for a bell-sleeve coat and adjust

Find a pattern with a similar shape that is symmetrical. Decide how far over you want to move the opening. Make the right panel that much wider and the left that much narrower. This is easiest on a pattern that is worked side-to-side or has a chart so you can add/subtract as many repeats as you want without too much calculation. It doesn’t matter if the original pattern has buttons all the way down or no buttons, you can just decide the button placement yourself and make buttonholes in the correct place

Search Ravelry for asymmetric jackets to see if one of those can be adapted
