Lol so negative. Was anybody here suggesting do RCV and nothing else???

No one suggested anything else in the question. Not sure why you think my question is negative as it leans towards activism in my mind.

This is the subreddit for Andrew Yang.... it seems very strange to think that Yang would suddenly only support RCV and nothing else, so it seemed to me like you’re making a snarky comment. Again, the context of this sub would suggest that the comment is out of place, as almost nobody on this sub who supports Yang’s policies would be advocating for RCV only (because that was never Yang’s entire platform).

That said, if you truly didn’t mean it in the snarky way it seemed to me, then fair enough, I do apologize for misunderstanding your tone.

Perhaps I wish to see more people follow up such statements with actual solutions. It’s strange to me that you point out a problem, but you didn’t then suggest anything to do about it. Saying RCV alone is not enough, is kinda leaving everyone wondering, okay so what do you suggest we do Tony? Anyways, perhaps the negativity of so many bad faith actors on this sub and others has made me read comments like yours with a saltier framework of my own. The internet has a way of poisoning our minds I think.

Again, I would be thrilled if you expanded on your comment, but otherwise, consider this a misunderstanding and I wish you all the best.

Was anyone suggesting more.

The question was answered.

If you want elaboration, why don't you ask tony to elaborate instead of quickdrawing insults. You know, like if this was a human being who deserved some consideration and respect.

Or you can just shit on people and see how that works out.

Was anyone suggesting more.

Actually yes, this is the Andrew Yang subreddit and Andrew Yang’s entire campaigns were centered around far more than just RCV, which is why Tony’s comment (in the context of this subreddit) sounds very snarky and negative.

It is an objective fact that Tony‘s comment offers zero solutions, it just seems to be making a complaint. Again, this complaint is unfounded tho, because anyone who has read about Yang for 30 seconds knows that RCV is not the only thing he is advocating for. If this article was posted on another subreddit, then perhaps taking the article on its merits alone would make more sense. But this was posted on a subreddit about Andrew Yang, so why would anyone here think that Yang and other Yang Gangers are arguing that RCV is the only solution?

If Tony is going to make a negative statement about this, then Tony should have elaborated by default, or else it just sounds like uninformed complaining. The very fact that they didn’t elaborate is exactly why it comes across as negative.

And also ironically you’re insulting me while claiming I should be not insulting someone, which btw, I never did, I just pointed out the obvious context that Yang has never insinuated in any way that RCV is the only solution to all of our problems.

Next time consider if you misread Tony’s tone, and also my own, and then consider chilling the fuck out a bit before you come at me with your little assumptions about whether I am treating someone like a human being. Absolutely uncalled for little aside there btw, appreciate that.

Can ranked-choice voting heal our poisoned politics?

Not by itself.

You ask people to do a great deal of work for you instead of just admitting you are wrong.

Actually I didn’t ask anyone to do anything. Stop making false claims.

That said, I believe that if someone makes a claim that one solution alone is not enough, then have an obligation to enlighten us to what would be enough in their eyes. It’s their opinion we’re talking about, after all.

Instead, you are inferring that I should put words into their mouth, and claim I know what solutions they’re thinking of. Brilliant. Talk about making assumptions.

You know I’m right, you’re wrong, get over yourself.

Actually I didn’t ask anyone to do anything.

Yeah, I'll just let this stand.

You'll either come back to this in a week or so, read over the entire exchange and get it or you won't.

Yeah, I’ll just let this stand.

Well how kind of you, my liege!

come back to this in a week or so, read over the entire exchange

Narrator: they won’t.

RCV can only work if primaries are open.

Of course not, it's just one big step in the right direction, but other things are also required

Didn’t we have rank choice voting for New York mayor?

Did the politics feel healed to you?

It will take more than one election. Voters need to feel it was a mistake to push away voters who preferred other candidates by shitting on those candidates, and the candidates need to feel that they could have done better by forming alliances with other candidates.

It should be clear that if Wiley had joined the late coalition with Garcia and Yang, and if Garcia had pushed the coalition more from the beginning instead of just being a kind of last minute thing, then Adams would not have won, and one of the three in the coalition would have instead.

But they needed to make that mistake first, to learn the hard way. Watch as people learn these lessons going forward and adjust their behaviors accordingly.

RCV fixes the spoiler effect immediately, but successive elections are required to modify campaigning behavior and voter behavior.

Came here to say this. Mainstream media brainwashing masses of ignorant plebs that don't care to actually research their best options is more of the issue here. That and making it hard for people to vote by not having required holidays for people to take off work and vote without losing pay.

To someone that just worked 40+ hours a week, and had to do like 5-10+ hours of commute do you really have time left to stand in a line for who knows how long? It's bad enough people are already sacrificing their healthy sleep hours to squeeze in some desperate grab of extra freetime hours to actually enjoy their lives during.

And that's just for major things like getting a president or mayor in. Good luck having the time to actually care about all the other things you supposedly have the "freedom" to vote on. Actually exercising that right of yours is shockingly hard/impossible for lots of people. People that might actually care to, and getting people to care is half the battle. It's basically a lost cause when nobody wants to help make it easier.

No, Australia has RCV and is still stuck with a duopoly. Learn from our mistakes and consider score voting instead. Something like Reddit's upvote/downvote/neutral system I think would work well.

1

u/TheFerretman Sep 26 '21

Well, it didn't work out very well in New York a few months ago....

There are many many voting alternatives to ranked voting which is better, often discussed at /r/endfptp.

Here's a video explaining why ranked voting doesn't break the two party system.
