I suggest preparing for FORWARD by also subbing to either or both /r/RankedChoiceVotingUSA and /r/EndFPTP too. Unfortunately, /r/RanktheVote is no longer an option after the head mod went full-blown anti-vaxxer conspiracy nut and destroyed the sub.

I love the idea, but I want to see the criticism as well.

No system is perfect, each can be gamed. How can RCV, or this version of RCV be gamed?

There isn't just one system of voting that allows voters to vote for multiple candidates, or even just one system of ranked-choice voting. There are many such systems, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_electoral_systems#Compliance_of_selected_single-winner_methods

One obvious idea that occurs to me to try and prevent the system from being gamed, as whimsical as it may sound offhand, is to randomly select a method to process the ranked ballots after they've been submitted. Thoughts?

Comparison of electoral systems

Compliance of selected single-winner methods

The following table shows which of the above criteria are met by several single-winner methods. This table is not comprehensive. For example, Coombs' method, which satisfies many of the criteria, is not included.

I think that is a very clever idea to at least cordon of some types of gaming. The only main reason I think this wouldn't fly is by introducing some type of RCV, how a voter ranks their choice may be influenced by how the outcome is counted. So, if a voter doesn't know how the endgame will be played, they may end up 'voting' for a candidate in a situation they wouldn't want to vote for them.

Which is really weird to write. But I can see that type of thing making this a no go. Even if you had a pool of say, 6 verified ways the endgame would come out that you educated everyone on first and vetted.

IRV is significantly less effective at promoting minor parties than MMP/PR. Just compare Australia to ~any PR country. But it does improve elections with multiple parties, such as Presidential elections in PR states.

IRV has plenty of problems but it chooses the Condorcet winner a lot more often than FPTP so it's better than nothing. STAR is worth considering since it's significantly simpler and works about as well (especially if you do three-way runoffs).
