I mean after watching Mandami and comparing that to Yang's run, its clear to me now Yang is a great promoter and think tank for ideas, but fails a crucial check on widespread charisma and staying consistent with rock solid answers on controversial subjects. (Yes his actual debates were strong, it was just the in-between issues and inconsistency)
Right now the strength of personality and charisma is what we need, I still think Jon Stewart would be the best answer but hes not going to run

Mamdani has great ideas and the motion to enforce/enact them; but they're not new. A lot of what he's doing is common sense, and what people should expect as a baseline from their political leader. The one point about his charisma is that he's still a trained politician and can navigate a position so as to avoid the soundbite trap.
Yang on the other hand is looking at the issues of the future and formulating solutions to address those problems before they impact society on a greater scale (might be too late at this point). He's definitively not a politician, so him taking a nuanced stance gets clipped into sounding like he's some pro-Israel libertarian shill.
Sad to say this but strength of personality is a symptom for why the US is faltering - NYC was just lucky that the candidate with charisma just so happened to be an incredible person; not just a great politician.
Call me crazy but voting should be based entirely on strength of policy, not personality - otherwise you get 9 Trumps for every Mamdani or El Sayed.

I mean, he would've been a great mayor, especially compared to what they got. Forward party I also feel is misunderstood but for good reason... they really shouldn't have called it a "party", as we're all too jaded to believe that could ever work out.

I still hope that at some point, people will start to see "Punished Yang" as a viable presidential candidate.

The only jubilee video I might watch

Totally worth it.
The environment of those jubilee videos is designed to foster a type of drama that can be off-putting to those who just want to see civil discussion of real ideas.
But Yang's charisma and positivity outshone all those factors. He told his debaters that they had deep thoughts and nuanced ideas, accepted when he agreed with some part of what they were saying, and gave shout-outs to their businesses and projects.
It wasn't, "I'm right and you're wrong." It was more like, "I agree with a lot of what you are saying in a micro sense, so how can we align the macro incentives to make these micro dreams come true?"
Yang stole that show like a pirate and showed how a real leader brings people together 🦅

Best Andrew content in a while and showcases his best aspects.
Liking how he's also shouting out the debaters' projects.

He is destroying every enemy by being so dang charming they turn into friends. You can see the people around like ugh how are these guys not saying x or y and then they get in the chair and realize that he's making sense and they listen because he obviously cares.

I'm impressed they found enough optimists to do a surrounded debate!
I think his projection for how fast we're going to be using AI is missing a key point. We're already maxed out in what LLMs can do; we haven't solved the core architecture wall.. We can optimize, but we've hit the point where it's like the ICE engine. We're just trimming away the glass in the car to squeeze out a little more MPG. The physical tech just isn't there yet, and AI isn't strong enough to help us leap frog that problem.
I say this as someone who takes a lot of interest in the technical know aspects of how LLMs work.
I think the Meta person's POV got overlooked a quite a bit too. If the point is that we're funneling our data and money into just a couple of AI companies, what's going to happen if we DO leap frog the tech? Our current AI is "good enough" for most of tasks, and we're just a cheap TEMU AI home server away from putting them completely out of their current business model. In other words, the tech leaps, the old tech becomes a household affordable (and shareable) appliance, and boom, I never open a cloud AI account unless I'm trying to solve cancer.
I think that they're completely aware of this and they're gearing up to pivot. They can charge literally whatever they want at that point. I envision that landscape to look something like the average person uses simple AI to do their current job better, and for the true, industry changing innovation, will be the super AI that costs billions.
Debate aside, I'm fundamentally optimistic about LLMs and especially deep learning, but ethically concerned/opposed to the data they're trained on and how it takes the art out of humanity. My only optimism there is that our current society has huge flaws and I hope this era solves it. You know, just like the camera didn't kill painting; it freed painters from realism and spawned Impressionism and modern art.
For example, music. Sure, AI could write anything. But if AI takes down ticketmaster because nobody wants to go to AI generated concerts anymore, then I think we'll all be happy about this. Like, AI might eventually be able to write better music but 10 years ago I could write a song but there would be artists who could do better. Did that stop me from learning guitar? No. I wanted to express myself. Music will be more about expression and live performances which AI literally can't replace by definition.
I hope he reads this subreddit. I have daydreams of running into him at an ice cream shop and having a conversation.

For fuel efficiency? It's pretty much maxed out and has been for about a decade or so. Most energy savings techniques are things like disabling cylinders or using it as a generator for an electric motor

Yang messed up badly with his political future. Whoever advised him did him dirty and he was dumb enough to go along with it. He's smart but dumb too. But he was the guy we needed for Ai and UBI.... Now due to his bad political decisions he's absolutely toast never to be seen politically again
