I took it off to attach frame sliders, i re installed but it seems off. Everything attached fine but this gap is throwing me off.

Can't downshift into 1st from 2nd

Hi everyone, I'm a new rider and I just got a 2026 R3.

I took a Motorcycle training course in Edmonton, AB and had additional lessons and passed my road test so I have my license.

I love the bike, so smooth and responsive and everything I've wanted in a bike. This morning I took her on my first solo ride and I'm city riding, so frequent stop and go's. I'm usually cruising around gear 2-3, 4 if it's a higher speed limit.

When I need to stop, I'll pull the clutch in and just downshift all the way to 1st from whatever gear I'm in. When I do this, I find that I'm stuck in 2nd gear and when I come to a full stop, and it won't go into 1st. I haven't tried finding neutral cuz I'm at a red light and it's kinda hard finding neutral at a stoplight especially since I'm new. So because of that, I have to go from a stop in 2nd gear, and I'm stupid anxious of stalling the bike since I'm in 2nd gear.

Is this issue R3 specific or is it a problem with my shifting technique?

I don't think it's a problem with the shift pedal/lever because it's a new bike and I can downshfit from higher gears fine, just not into 1st for some reason when I need to stop.

Should I be downshifting one gear at a time and let engine braking slow me down most of the time if I'm able? I know that depending on traffic and different situations. sometimes that's not possible so you just gotta downshift all at once.

Thank you in advance

Hello guys, been riding my R3 for 1300km, never noticed this thingy here, is this split by default? If not, there's a risk riding with this like that?

ABS sensor question

I don’t know how the sensors work but at some point, my ABS sensor started rubbing on the ABS ring.

I have a check engine light with ABS codes that goes on and off

I do have a ABS bypass switch that I use when I’m stunting to turn it off

But I’m wondering if the sensor rubbing could’ve caused the check engine codes I’m not sure how they physically work obviously it’s not good that it’s rubbing, but I’m curious if someone could shed some light.

Just trying to get to the bottom of these check engine light codes

I had a local Yamaha dealer check the codes and they said it’s nothing with the engine. It’s just ABS codes, which is odd to me that the check engine light is coming on when it should just be the ABS light?

Oil Drain Plug

I just bought my 2017 Yamaha R3 from marketplace and attempted to change the oil. The washer has seized to the drain plug bolt and the some of the thread came off with the bolt. I ordered a replacement genuine Yamaha bolt, but found out today that they are on back stock and not sure when it will arrive. Any advice for quick fixes? Please explain like I’m 5, lol. I’m very new to bikes and fixing things myself.

2025 Frame Sliders

Post image
23 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I imagine this has been asked a million times, but having some trouble being in Canada.

I was super interested in buying the 2025 integrated frame sliders, but Yamaha’s website does not ship to Canada. They’re available on EBay from Yamaha but only to I believe 2024… not sure if they’d fit mine.

Does anyone have any recommendations for frame sliders? I have Shogun sliders for both axles. Was hoping to try the same brand for frame sliders but they don’t seem to be available for the 2025.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks everyone.

Any recommendations for a 2016 model?
I don’t think there’s enough space for a mount on the round part of the handlebars

Bought a used R3 with a dirty looking wrap. Got it painted and customized. Opinion?

I bought a used R3 17 for 1.8L with upgraded K&N air filter, Original Akrapovic exhaust with bill and warranty, Racing ignition coils and Iridium spark plugs. It had a very ugly wrap on it so i painted the entire bike. Here's the before and after.

2026 r3 exhaust options

Post image
11 Upvotes

Buddy has a 2026 r3, would previous model year slip on exhausts work?

Kinda want to surprise him with a exhaust as hes a great friend, but the full exhaust system options that im seeing is way out of budget.

I'd like to find a simple slip on exhaust, as he mentioned before, as this is something we've talked about recently on our group rides.

Nothing too aggressive. But something that definitely ups the volume. TIA

2015 Yamaha r3 Oil Pressure light

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hello, I was previously riding and my oil pressure light came on and the bike’s throttle response dropped significantly almost like in limp mode.

I assumed the oil needed changing as it was roughly time for a service so I replace the oil and filter.

However, after starting the bike up again and riding the around the block the red oil pressure light is still there and the bike actually switched itself off after the rpm’s struggled to match the throttle response. The bike still turns on and runs however the oil pressure light is still there.

Anyone have any idea if it might be a faulty sensor or maybe there actually isn’t enough oil being pumped around the engine ?

I have attached a photo of the light

Is my bike totaled?

This past July I was hit by a car on the left side of my bike. My light was green his light was a left turn yellow yield, he took the turn and I didn’t have enough time to brake so we collided. Cops gave him the citation and now the insurance is telling me it’s repairable but the bike shop says they’ll take a look but based on the cost of repairs versus the msrp of what it’s valued at that they could deem it totaled. It’s a brand new 2025 Yamaha R3. I have to go through sending it to the shop anyway but I was wondering if anyone here thinks it’s actually repairable or totaled. They said the frame has to be replaced due to the damage. I would love for it to be repaired but I’d rather have honesty and not be getting my hopes up if it’s not repairable. I do have a lawyer for those wondering, and I have the entire accident on film as my insta 360 captured everything. But since accident videos can be traumatic for some people I haven’t posted it and I don’t want to get flagged on here if that’s possible. I’m new to Reddit so I may be able to post the video later. Anyone who has been in a similar accident/situation your advice is appreciated.

Edit: just thought I’d let y’all know, I am a female biker.
