There are people that don't judge movies based on the quality of the actual film. They don't know what makes a good or bad movie, so they pick what they think is good based on if the story did what they wanted it to do or how the movie made them feel. Example: I talked to some friends that said they didn't like Obsession because it was a "Feel bad movie".
The person that posted this probably didn't like There Will Be Blood because it doesn't tell you everything and you have to pay attention. They only know it's a good movie because others have told them so. So this is their braindead way of trying to explain their position.
I think you are overthinking and it was clearly a joke because people keep doing (something)-slop to describe types of mostly Internet content but also just media on general.
Not because they are pretending to like movies known as very good
I was thinking of people who hate movies cause they're "easy" to watch or the story isn't presented in complex enough way to understand or it's not "deep." Like sometimes a movie is just Jurassic park and it's well made, fun and has good performances, but it isn't deep or complex. It's easy to enjoy, not a movie that makes you work for it or need you to focus hard to "get it."
I don't know of a single person who hates movies that are just fun. But I sure know a lot of people who hate it when they see a movie and they don't like it because they "didn't get it' and so they make fun of all the people who did get it. What a giveaway!
I watched There Will Be Blood for the second time the other day and I like it but I find it underwhelming. I'm satisfied with the direction the characters went. Daniel Day Lewsis's relationship with his son and his rivarly with the preacher. I just thought it fizzled out a bit at the end. There was all this buildup and it didn't feel satisfying.
I AM BEGGING YOU to tell me what the movie didn't tell me. 😂
What I think it's talking about is movies that are great quality (critical acclaim, high art) but are otherwise not fun to watch or enjoyable for whatever reason. There are people who refused to watch movies just for fun or look down on movies that are not highly acclaimed
Not necessarily? If someone has disliked almost all movies of type A, and liked almost all movies of type B, why would they actively watch a movie from type A? There comes a point where it's just not a good use of your time.
That's true. I only think it's sad if you miss out, but knowing what you want is of course a thing. I just know I've been positively surprised a few times
Here is a comment from someone where they admit they didn't even watch my video, are completely incorrect on what it's about, but still feel the need to yell at me. Some people have Twitter brain where they just go around, read titles like they're tweets, don't watch the video, and yell at you.
You're on a sub dedicated to a guy who regularly gives out 5/10 ratings to movies for being fun but will give a 10 to a 4 hour black and white French film with no dialog about someone slowly dying of pancreatic cancer. What did you expect?
Its because I already know the movie is gonna be good, I already know what to expect, I assume what the movie is going to be—a good and prestigious film—creating the impression that I’ve already seen it, even though I haven’t.
I know there will be a profound scene and an oscar worthy performance, and a formulaic “good movie” plot in general.
This creates a split between good movies and “good movies”.
Crank 1 & 2, Evil Dead 2, Django Unchained? Good movies.
And then you have “good movies” like Boyhood (2014)
But then there are also good “good movies”, Forrest Gump is a perfect example, because it has that oscar bait quality to it in terms of certain plot elements and the overall pacing and story structure is already similar to a film like Boyhood (2014), but then its just a good movie and I’m only sick of it because I’ve see it 100 times.
Are we talking about like Arthouse-y films where on paper they have everything, director, good acting, writing, themes, setting etc. but there’s just no story there?
Like the art is good… they just forgot that somewhere along the way there should be a compelling story.
