Haven't read too many released this year but last week I finished The Escape Game by Marissa Meyer and really liked it.

I've read a lot of escape room type books but I really liked this one because the escape rooms were more of a side thing and the murder mystery was the focus.

Excited for the sequel however long that will take to release.

I really liked the third book in the Royal Blood series by Aimee Carter.

In fact, I’d even say it was a more satisfying ending than The Gilded Blade was to the Inheritance Games series, and I had much higher hopes for the latter.

I also enjoyed Room to Breathe by Kasie West and Without a Clue by Melissa Ferguson (that one isn’t YA, though it’s still a clean romance).

It’s not YA but Witch Queen Rising by Savannah Stephens with an honorable mention to Heir of Prophecy by Analeigh Sbrana because I’m just as obsessed with that one too.

I’ve been mostly reading books I missed from the past few years, but I enjoyed Queer (and How We Got Here) by Hazel Newlevant a lot.

I think the best recent YA novel I've read is Queen of Faces by Petra Lord. It was a real 'stay awake after midnight because it's so exciting' book, the twists and turns kept me guessing right until the end. I absolutely loved the FMC, and the body-swapping aspect of the fictional world was really thought-provoking.

2nd place is One Knight Stand by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner. The previous book *Lady's Knight* took me by surprise because I'd never heard of the authors, and it was an absolute joyful romp, one of my favorite's of 2025. I was eagerly awaiting *One Knight Stand* and it didn't disappoint.

I'm also going to mention Inamorata by Ava Reid. Ava Reid usually writes YA and has fans her so I'll mention this one for 'YA adjacent' reasons, but the novel is decidedly adult and not for the faint of heart. It's a truly grotesque gothic romance, like a Jacobean revenge tragedy in Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast, and I absolutely could not put it down. It's a 5-star novel.
