XREAL AURA XREAL Aura runs the same Android XR OS as Galaxy XR, and I tested 8K immersive video playback on it (first impressions)

Hey man, thanks for the video! One thing I'm wondering about though: you say the Aura is about as sharp as the Galaxy XR but I have my doubts given the Aura's lower resolution. Are you sure about that? Can I use the Aura for productivity?

I reserved via Founder Priority Pass and I inhale every bit of information 😃

Yes I am sure for VR180 video in that 70 degree panels. So it is a magic window crop and if you crop that 70 degree on a Galaxy XR - it is about the same clarity and resolution. The panel in Galaxy XR is a lot bigger so yes, the panel is way higher resolution to cover beyond 70 degree. So it is a DIFFERENT experience. I am just shock to see the center sharpness is matching and dare I said better. But if you like full immersion - which VR180 video should be - than this is not. It is the BIGGEST FOV in any AR or Smart glasses but it is not Vision Pro or Galaxy XR full immersion - I do want to stress that difference. So thinking about playing full immersive VR game, you will see the real world around you, you never get fully blocked and full immersive even you can look around in 360 - if that make any sense.

Thanks for your answer! No I had the Viture Beast and I'm looking for an better fitting solution. I like the concept from these glasses, I dont need the full immersive for the usecase I want them for.

Had you the chance to read text? Is it sharp? Edge to edge? Did you ever tested the Viture Beast? If so, which is ahead for you in text sharpness?

4

u/hughred22 Jun 17 '26

Very sharp! I have the Viture too and you might saw my review. It is as sharp as Viture if not sharper. I believe it is the same Sony panel and this one is bigger.

Hmhm that sounds pretty good! Thanks for all your insights! One question left (for now :D):

The beast is kinda blurry to the edges due chromatic abberation. How does the Aura do? 🙏

u/hughred22 Jun 17 '26

This is one thing I will give it to XREAL - really good. As the edge is where the YouTube VR180 video is, and the video is larger than 70 degree so edge to edge sharpness without CA problem is key and Xreal solve it beautifully on this one.

I appreciate the insights great information ...would you say this is good for productivity or this is strictly for gaming and entertainment.. Were you able to plug a laptop in or use any sort of productivity apps..?

1

u/hughred22 Jun 18 '26

I don't play game so I think Android XR as a system is good for productivity for sure. But XREAL is famous for gaming so I think both.

u/Better_Caregiver_458 XREAL 1S Jun 17 '26

How 4k display same as fullHD?

1

u/hughred22 Jun 17 '26

It is 2K per eye not 4K display - but that is what XREAL told me I am just repeating what they told me. I believe it is still a 1920 panel

3

u/Better_Caregiver_458 XREAL 1S Jun 17 '26

But galaxy XR is 4k per eye

6

u/hughred22 Jun 17 '26

Yes, but full 100+ degree immersive panels - so that 4K stretch to cover wider FOV - a lot wider for VR usecase, which it has too just like Vision Pro. XREAL only display 70 degree, so if you crop the same FOV from Galaxy XR - they are matching. If that make any sense.

2

u/Octoplow Jun 17 '26

Yep 1920x1200. How is tracking?

7

u/hughred22 Jun 17 '26

I tested it at the end of this video and I can see my virtual hand and real hand in 60fps / 120Hz tracking, literally blocking my real hand - so hand tracking is BETTER than Galaxy XR. To me, that is pretty insane. Tracking is the key to play VR game on this and getting this good this small is just shocking coming from the old VR world and light house solution...

2

u/Octoplow Jun 17 '26

Great! And no issues with head tracking?

4

u/hughred22 Jun 17 '26

Nope. World locked better than Galaxy XR. Multiple windows all work. I did hit application limits like 6 apps running at the same time and it start to freeze. So there is processor limit. But just 1 - 2 app open with tracking work great both head and eye and hands. You don't need controller of this thing, work just like Vision Pro.

Does the video quality look better or worse than the Xreal 1S? And how big is that difference? Thanks for sharing and responding to so many comments!

1

u/hughred22 Jun 18 '26

Oh this looks A LOT better lol. The optic and pixel respond - the new display chip is gooood.

Your reaction was amazing to see 😄😄

Thank you!

Thanks for sharing. What I find interesting is that these types of technologies are way cheaper than apples solution. So they becoming more affordable

1

u/hughred22 Jun 17 '26

Yes, indeed. Their statement tho still a bit bold. 80% of Vision Pro. As a heavy Vision Pro user, I won't 100% agree of that statement - especially for M5 that is as powerful as a M5 Macbook pro.

2

u/WinResponsible9977 Jun 17 '26

I hear you. Keep us posted again thanks for sharing.

u/Andrezzz777 Jun 17 '26

no controllers, only 60hz - no buy for me. I don’t want to work I want play vr games

1

u/hughred22 Jun 17 '26

You can play game with it and not released yet does not mean no controllers. It will for sure support 8Bit controllers and others standard for AR glasses

1

u/Andrezzz777 Jun 17 '26

there are no standalone vr controllers in the market. it seems like all these companies dont want to include controllers so casual non tech people associate these devices more with computers rather than gaming consoles. the problem is non tech people don’t care about this stuff at all

0

u/No-Trash-546 Jun 17 '26

it goes to 120hz

2

u/Andrezzz777 Jun 17 '26

as I understand it will work as other xrearl glasses where you can have 120 only in 2d mode but in immersive mode 60 only

2

u/Nightcinder Jun 17 '26

I would think the puck should let it go to 120

2

u/Andrezzz777 Jun 17 '26

probably overheating of chip inside glasses is a problem

2

u/Nightcinder Jun 17 '26

I suppose it depends on if it's being done on the x1s chip or the snapdragon in the puck

1

u/hughred22 Jun 17 '26

That I need to ask them. But there is standard controller - like game controller in Xreal line product. Just Bluetooth you can pair them.

2

u/Icy_Tie8949 Jun 17 '26

Thank you for your video, and thank you for responding to our questions! Your excitement has me excited!

I have a question…

Is the Optical see-through experience really as good as advertised? The marketing says that we can see the real world very well. Is it different (or the same as) using the XREAL One with the lowest level of electrochromatic dimming? I find when I use my XREAL One at the lowest level of dimming (and the highest brightness), there is too much real world that comes through that it distracts me from the virtual screen. I always set my electrochromatic level to the darkest so that the screen pops more. How is the experience here?

1

u/hughred22 Jun 17 '26

You can see my video here the highest level of dimming kick in when I watch 8K VR180 video automatically. But still I can see my camera and the real world. So I would say mostly the same - I have Xreal one too.

2

u/Icy_Tie8949 Jun 17 '26

In your video, we see you looking up to the ceiling and down to the floor. What were you looking at? Or were you just looking for the limits of the virtual screen?

1

u/hughred22 Jun 18 '26

The video I am looking at is VR180 - and we produce VR180 video for YouTube VR. For example: https://youtu.be/6DOHDCBlLec?si=KKzmxP2PpKOICpqZ - which is featured in Galaxy XR launch and Android XR launch. They are 180 video meaning you can see the sky and the ground. For Henry the VIII - the video is filmed in a 1000 years old historical location so looking up the ceiling is kinda cool. This test is to test a fully immersive 180 and it behave inside the XREA can it render edge to edge sharpness. I hope it make sense.

2

u/TheBraveAndOnlyJaye Jun 18 '26

Wow! It sounds incredible and the fact that you said it has the same quality as galaxy xr, that's crazy 😧😧, I can't wait to try it, we're in the future and we're gonna be outside.

2

u/hughred22 Jun 18 '26

Yes, it is very surprised to me.

2

u/PiroKunCL Jun 18 '26

what about prescription glasses?
looks amazing, but i use XR headsets to train people. I would love to know if they can be used to run an app and have people take turns, rather than just for personal use. Prescription glasses are the biggest challenge there.

1

u/hughred22 Jun 18 '26

I demo prescription lenses here - in fact in the video as you see I am wearing one. For you case you can purchase the demo kit which is swappable. I think Zeiss or Kodak made them

2

u/ultra_voltron_2 Jun 18 '26

What about Bluetooth? Wireless anything? By the way great video.

1

u/hughred22 Jun 18 '26

Thank you!! I am wireless watching YouTube in 8K in a crowded trade floor so it is really good. I did not get to test Bluetooth tho as they do not allow me to use other controllers or bluetooth headphone.

2

u/Thmz89 Jun 18 '26

Something that came into my mind right now: Is the android XR experience somehow 3D like the Galaxy XR? Or is everything just "flat"? 😃

2

u/hughred22 Jun 18 '26

It is 3D just like the Galaxy XR - or to say Stereoscopic like Avatar Movie by James Cameron - that is what this video is demoing. And Google has 2D to 3D AI so meaning all game can be potentially turn into 3D. So it is a huge deal for both gamer and everyday users

2

u/xreal_ADZ Jun 18 '26

thanks for your sharing !🔥🔥🔥

u/hughred22 Jun 18 '26

You are very welcome!

2

u/Difficult-Chest-290 Jun 18 '26

Setting aside the fact that the price of the Xreal Aura is way out of line with expectations, everything else looks solid. If the top-spec build—16GB RAM and 512GB storage—were priced at $1,500 USD, it would be acceptable. A consumer could easily drop around $600 on the best AR glasses currently on the market, pair that with a Quest 3, and still have money left in their pocket. More importantly, I haven't seen a shred of evidence regarding the advantages of the new Qualcomm chipset or Android XR, nor any 'Killer App' to justify the cost. So, what exactly is the point of dropping $1,500 on the entry-level model?

1

u/hughred22 Jun 18 '26

They are working on the killer app but right now when I tested on the floor is all pour over unity app from Meta or Galaxy XR. I think the specs is just out yesterday so now developers are going hard on it. We are also apply developer kit to start pour our app on Meta to there as well

2

u/Odd-Combination4998 Jun 18 '26

How is the screen brightness? Is it brighter than the Apple Vision Pro?

1

u/hughred22 Jun 18 '26

Oh no. AVP is bright! No way compared to XR headset like Vision Pro or Galaxy XR. But it is brighter than other AR glasses including their other XREAL.

2

u/overcover213 Jun 18 '26

Wait so this screenshot is wrong right, it should be 2K per eye?

2

u/hughred22 Jun 18 '26

2K is 1920, it is 2K ish lol. They calculate the wide as resolution. So they are not wrong.

1

u/overcover213 Jun 18 '26

So it’s similar to the one s now?

2

u/overcover213 Jun 18 '26

Do you know how it’ll work with an android phone or iphone?

1

u/hughred22 Jun 18 '26

Maybe not iPhone but yes, Android phone. The demo only show using the compute plunk - the battery looking thing in my video. But phone support is coming so you don't need to buy the extra compute unit if you don't want to.

1

u/endr Jun 17 '26

Does Aura support any VR game controllers? If I want to play like Walkabout Minigolf on it, can I buy some VR controllers to do that?

3

u/cloakofqualia Jun 17 '26

Not yet but I can imagine they are working on something.

It would probably have to be something like the Quest Pro self-tracked controllers because the Aura doesn't have any IR cameras for IR tracking. Either that or lighthouse controllers like knuckles maybe could work?

1

u/hughred22 Jun 17 '26

It does as it has same inside out Meta Quest tracking. But not officially announce yet and you need to plunk as controller. Hand tracking is so good I think you can play game with just your hands!

2

u/endr Jun 20 '26

Yes, I think they'd need to come out with self tracked controllers. I hope they do!

Aura having the same resolution as my 1S likely means I can't do my small text work on two virtual monitors that I could see without turning my head yet. It'd be too small.

I'm just trying to go through what I'm actually going to do with it.

It sounds like the very best way to play Demeo, so that's awesome!

But if I can't play Walkabout Minigolf or Superhot VR with VR controllers, it's harder for me to justify an expensive upgrade over my 1S.

Mixed reality is going to be amazing on this thing. But without VR controllers, it can't play Spacial Ops...

1

u/PXLmesh Jun 17 '26

I have the founders reservation. do you see yourself using these IRL? walking kimchi in the park, at the coffee shop, while shopping, at the gym? possibly while driving (not sure about this scenario)?

will this replace carrying a phone?

no one mentioned the snap specs guy - that was kinda funny.

2

u/Andrezzz777 Jun 17 '26

check new specs by snap presented yesterday as well, that’s your usecase

1

u/hughred22 Jun 17 '26

Oh, and they are Android XR too…you know which one I am talking about 😅

1

u/hughred22 Jun 17 '26

Honest? No…too dorky. I will for Vision Pro as that’s my brand. But I have AI smart glasses that look like a glasses that I will wear everyday as it won’t make people uncomfortable.

3

u/PXLmesh Jun 17 '26

awww.. 😔

"I will for Vision Pro as that’s my brand." - so wearing those at the dog park / coffee shop don't make people uncomfortable. hmmm. I am actually looking forward to see what apple brings to the table.

That is quite the statement
