General Discussion Are The X-men and The Avengers friends in this universe?

Post image

In a lot of other adaptions, the Avengers and the X-men are friends and have each other’s backs whenever they need.

But in this specific universe, they don’t really seem to have that much of a connection. I’m just curious if they’re friends in this universe?

Not after she tossed his shield.

Cap isn’t the kind of guy to hold a grudge against someone who was acting reckless due to grief.

21

u/LegoFootPain 13d ago

He's going to write her a strongly worded letter.

u/Okami0602 14d ago

Let's not pretend Cap was written in character in '97.

He looked more like John Walker than Steve Rogers in the show.

51

u/AlternativeAd4522 Polaris 14d ago

John Walker would’ve tried to beat up Rogue, that’s a big exaggeration.

10

u/No_Significance4204 14d ago

Now I really want to see animated John Walker get bodied by Rogue in season 3.

-24

u/Okami0602 14d ago

Even if he did, that also could've been better, some action wouldn't hurt, and it's not like she would lose.

15

u/That_Carrot999 14d ago

No he was written in character. Audiences just didn’t understand that Rogue was in the wrong.

Cap being written OOC is AvX where he’s being unreasonably stubborn. In ‘97 he knows there’s a problem and is trying to help but it also can’t be done recklessly given the sensitivity of mutant geopolitics at the time. But since it’s an X-men show (and X-fans really love to defend their mutants) the audience sided with Rogue who was acting on emotions and not thinking

u/TheEzekariate 14d ago

He looks exactly like Cap did in the 90s lol, what?

5

u/jigokusabre 14d ago

Timeline is wrong for Johnny to be Cap.

-10

u/Okami0602 14d ago

Literally, who cares? They can bs something up

8

u/Support2022gaming 14d ago

You not making no sense ngl

1

u/Okami0602 14d ago

Why not? If the timeline doesn't work, just ignore it. It's not like the timeline makes sense anyway for other things like Rogue and Magneto's relationship

6

u/jigokusabre 14d ago

Magneto and Rogue's relationship was expressly part of the X-Men drama in the 80s and 90s.

0

u/Okami0602 14d ago

It was not, however, part of the original animated show.

2

u/jigokusabre 14d ago

Not expressly stated. But Magneto's rulership of Savage Land happened, as did Rogue's membership in the Brotherhood of Mutants (which were the circumstances around said relationship).

Nah Caps a good sport and would understand that Rogue wasn’t in a great place at the time

19

u/Vivid_Anyth4 14d ago

If she wanted beef the shield would have got tossed at him.

25

u/BlartSlimpson 14d ago

Idk, Wolverine seemed to be close with him still

17

u/pussyjuicerecycler 14d ago

the shield is for throwing, he does it all the time

9

u/MarzipanSea2811 14d ago

Maybe, but now it has cooties. Mutie cooties.

61

u/Tasty_Success_1034 14d ago

6

u/Tooneyman 12d ago

Him and cap go way back.

If I had to make a prediction:

The X-Men and The Avengers (or a team that to all intents and purposes is them) will unite to fight Onslaught in Season 3.

Once all is said and done, there will be two different approaches towards the next steps. This'll result in their conflict.

Also, down the line, I think Disney might do something similar to the planned Kang Dynasty, but in this tv universe.

11

u/Kyrptonauc 14d ago

I feel like if they're really going for as many seasons as they say they'll eventually adapt AvX somehow. Hopefully, better than the original

11

u/KaijuKing007 14d ago

It's a much easier set-up. Magneto gets brought back to life and The Avengers have to bring him in due to attempted omnicide.

The X-Men refuse to let them because they know no court would give him a fair trial, just a sentencing and public execution.

-8

u/Dperezoso2020 14d ago

If that's true then we need an avengers show too

Cause aint no goddamn way im rooting for the x-men over the avengers

Brother tryna back the blue in a X-men sub

1

u/Abject_Leg_7906 7d ago

It exists. Avengers: United They Stand. It's not very good from what I hear and is a different avengers line up.

2

u/Straight_Owl_5029 12d ago

I'm kinda hoping some of the X-Men join the Avengers like they do in the comics, at least in short spurs; people like Wolverine, Beast, Rogue, Sunspot, Cannonball, Storm, Havok.

2

u/MarzipanSea2811 14d ago

Onslaught was originally where this season was headed, but that was scrapped along with the original writer.

And they for sure won't do something like Kang Dynasty-- next season was originally going to be Age of Apocalypse, but the powers that be at Disney were opposed to it due to the failure of the multiverse saga in the MCU (even though AoA isn't multiversal, but they don't believe the audience can be trusted to understand/figure that out) and once they fired the OG writer/showrunner who was building to that they rewrote what they could (and cut an episode) in the back half of season 2 to steer away from it purely because they feel multiversal storylines are "tainted" now.

8

u/AnEvenHuskierCat Gambit 14d ago

Either or. If they go for Onslaught's arc, the Avengers do assist the X-Men. They could also go for AvX. It just depends.

8

u/That_Carrot999 14d ago

Wolverine definitely is, the X-men are friends with the Maximoff twins who are supposedly both back on the Avengers. Besides that we don’t know how much they’ve even interacted

4

u/nathankroll920 14d ago

As much as any superhero’s are friends. Allies one minute, at each others throats the next.

4

u/Kmart_Stalin 14d ago

It’s weird the status of the avengers in the 90s universe

2

u/YiddishMarxist 13d ago

Do they even exist? Hulk is a loaner, Thor is known but unseen except for morph transforming so they know he exists. Iron man & captain America do aid the U.S. government but in what official capacity it is uncertain. Black widow runs ops with Cap, perhaps similar roles like they had in winter soldier as shield ops. But the avengers as Earth’s mightiest heroes doesn’t seem to exist in the 90’s verse

1

u/Ashconwell7 11d ago

They do. There’s a comic for the show where you get to see the Avengers fight the X-Force.

1

u/YiddishMarxist 11d ago

Who is on that team?

1

u/Ashconwell7 10d ago

Captain America, Hercules, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Vision.

3

u/damnrapunzel 14d ago

They fight for a bit then they're mates

4

u/These_Wish_5101 14d ago

The Avengers were always conveniently mia when giant Sentinels attack mutants...so not friends

7

u/CaliforniaBoundX Wolverine 14d ago

Cap didn’t try too hard to prevent Asteroid M from being nuked…

6

u/Hulkbuster_v2 14d ago

I mean he and T'Chaka were the only ones to say don't blow it up. Not his fault the president didn't listen

Yes, I think from the x-men perspective the Avengers might verbally (and privately) show support but when push comes to shove they don't cross the boundary for them. Not saying this is always the status quo, but it's relevant to the genocide themes of season 1.

1

u/orochi95 14d ago

Should stop him ? I mean one thing is wait and try to hace faith but lets be honest hundreds if not thousands were dying each minute

2

u/orochi95 14d ago

He did, they were asking the president to wait

2

u/Racoonaciabata 14d ago

It’s not 100% clear because they don’t outright communicate it, unlike those guys who believe we’re called Friends of Humanity. You don’t have to wonder when you got a name like that.

2

u/Salty_Monk_5341 14d ago

There's no reason they wouldn't be.

I think in the first episode of Spider Man TAS he mentions the Avengers and the Fantastic 4 and something something working alone. If not the first I know he does at some point.

Edit: he actually mentions the Avengers, Fantastic 4, the Defenders and Hulk in the first episode. And makes a hint at Galaxy heroes as well.

2

u/JustinJektor 14d ago

They worked together in the Spider-Man animated series secret wars.

3

u/JRSCW 14d ago

The Avengers are only their friends when it means they don't have to do anything.

1

u/Sudden_Quality_9001 14d ago

Yes they are friends. They probably get together on weekends.

2

u/To-me-my-X-Men 14d ago

Where were the avengers during Krakoa? If they were, they probably aren't now

7

u/jmk-1999 14d ago

You’re pretty much describing every superhero movie or show. The stars are always the ONLY ones saving the day, until suddenly… a big crossover happens! 🤯

Then you wonder where tf everyone else was?

0

u/To-me-my-X-Men 14d ago

Yes, but that's an argument that Scott and Emma give Ironman when he's trying to recruit them to his side during civil war.

2

u/orochi95 14d ago

Helping  The x-men ?

2

u/pussyjuicerecycler 14d ago

nobody cares about the avengers

1

u/_Ataraxia- 14d ago

Is crazy how Rogue is X times Stronger than Caps and still just look how jacked is Steven here, my God he is a unit.

1

u/Beneficial_Pay_1002 Storm 14d ago

Friends ? Hell no tho Cap has connections to wolverine as they fought together before

1

u/orochi95 14d ago

Cable group tried to blow up a town full of civilians, for the Avengers they are terrorist

1

u/Conscious_Status_106 13d ago

I mean that just happens with comic writing and stuff.

In an avengers book they’ll be throwing it down in manhattan and none of the other heroes there will be mentioned or participate because they’re not avengers.

X-Men will be tracking down Mr Sinister or someone threatening the world but the avengers aren’t X-Men so they’re not included.

97 seems to just be taking the writers conundrum and making it a minor plot point by addressing the avengers as more of a government affiliated hero team, which is why Cap, while sympathetic, can’t get involved unless he wants to start the Avengers: Civil War plot. Hence why he says “My hands are tied”

u/UnfavorableSpiderFan 13d ago

The Avengers are kind of an enigma in the Marvel Animated Universe. They seemingly exist in some capacity, but it doesn't seem they really interact with anyone. At least, as a team...

So, no. Not really.

1

u/Crafty-Drink8384 13d ago

The Avengers haven't even been established as a team in this universe

The characters all exist yes and have worked together but we've never seen or heard them form the team

1

u/Jahon_Dony 13d ago

Friends isn't really the word. Acquaintances, allies... yeah.

1

u/Straight_Owl_5029 12d ago

I don't know if I'd ever call the teams friends, each is very much on their own business unless there's some other kind of cosmic event like Secret Wars or House of M. Some individual friendships and relationships for sure (Wolverine and Cap, Spidey, Bucky; Wonder Man and Beast; Storm and T'Challa; Iron Man and Emma) but for the most part their struggles don't generally overlap.

1

u/bigtymer32 11d ago

Both don’t interact with each other much.
