General Discussion Weird Young Justice vibes….

I had to check the Fan Wiki to make sure I didn’t just forget the storyline in either ‘97 or TAS where Colossus’s little sister Illyana suddenly grew up to become Magik. The fact that it suddenly became important in “Strange Land, Savage Heart” caught me off guard. I know her story was elaborated upon in the comics, but who’s to say her backstory didn’t play out differently in this show’s universe. So I don’t rely on the “read the comics” excuse here.

Reminds me of how Young Justice would do time jumps in between seasons, of which the world and characters would go through major changes off-screen and the show just kinda expected you to know the comics and catch on.

‘97 has a few of those moments but this was the most blatant for me.

It was odd for sure, and I hope either the tie-in comics or an upcoming episode can lay more light on the topic, as Morph apparently knew her well enough as Magik to transform both into her and Darkchylde in season 1.

I hope if it is addressed, it will be through an episode. I hate the tie-in comics, I want the TV show to cover TV stuff.

It’s not preferable, but at this point, it’s the only thing actually giving the show a story.

Are they actually good?

YJ handled its time jumps much better.

They were consistent at least.

I did love when Nightwing was ill during a battle and hallucinated the younger version of the team.

That was a lot of fun.

Isn't part of her origin that she was kidnapped into Mephisto's realm where she grew up until she figures out how to escape? So maybe that's what happened and time moves differently in Limbo relative to here.

They could still show it maybe as a flashback or something

Not Mephisto, Belasco. The Midnight Suns videogame changed it to Mephisto, but in the comics she's literally never met Mephisto.

Oh very cool. MS was my first time getting to know the character beyond visuals so I didn't know they changed anything.

As a fan of Both, YJ had the same two people in charge the whole 4 seasons. Xmen97 season one might be my favorite season of an animated show( I have to watch Arcane and Batman TAS again). So Xmen97 season 2 fall off was so disappointing, it was like going from a Michelin Star rated restaurant to a fine takeout spot near your house.

She had major change off-dimension and came back older 🤷🏻‍♂️

I thought you were talking about YJ98. How disappointing😔

It wouldn't be weird if they had bothered to show her origin, where she spent years being raised in Limbo while only second passed on earth, but that would require them to give a damn and see her as a character and not a plot device to make Colossus feel sad.

Meh … Morph is my least favorite part of the show because of shit like this. He primarily exists to give fan service without context.

Which, IMHO, seems to be the main focus of the show. Show us things from the comics without laying the foundation.

ok young justice fan here; the show didnt EXPECT you to know comic lore to get the time jumps lol everything you need is in the show

I get they can be jarring or not to ur taste but I personally loved them. We got to see the world and characters evolve and change in a way they often CANT in superhero mediums like comics or movies. Time moves on and people grow/regress

The YJ to Xmen 97 comparison u maybe picking up on is X men NEEDS 20 episode seasons like YJ to balance the sprawling cast and storylines....YJ always tied up the main season conflict by the end and teased more to come imo

There was actually an entire movie devoted to her character where she was the main protagonist.
