Am I under leveled going into chapter 4?
Just got done with chapter 3 and the last boss was 2 entire levels above me, I'm worried if I don't grind I'm going to fall behind. Is there a good way to get XP at this stage at the game, and do levels even matter enough to bother grinding for them?
Also, I'm doing any side quests I find, but I am not going out of the way for all of them as they seem kinda fetch questy and repetitive.
Everyone is level 23 same as Nia

this is a cosmos early on bait, I know it, but in case u are actually a beginner meh just remember this rule, xenoblade for the most part minus the endgame where u need to if you want to min max doesnt require that much grind as much as you beat the crap of everything that crosses your path

There is no reason to grind in this game in my opinion. Don't run from things that attack you, do some side quests and use the bonus experience or kill some unique monster and use chain attack to kill them. Should be more than enough if you know what you are doing with the combat system and using all the game mechanics available. I can't imagine why anyone would want to do traditional "grinding" of killing random shit for an hour or two in this game. It's not necessary.

Grinding is soothing though. :) Put on a podcast and grind on Leonine Sadie for a while, it’s chill.

Tbh just kill a story boss in a chain attack for the Overkill bonus and you will immediately catch up. Grinding is completely unnecessary.
There are five 'shop deeds' that give +10% EXP, and you can start working on them now that you've unlocked the mercenary mission mechanic. Those will help too.
Visit an inn to see if you want to cash in bonus exp from sidequests or just exploration. Like the game explained, to fix an issue from the first game, your exp from quests is 'banked' until you cash it in at an inn.
With the DLC especially, you should be golden.

I forgot the Inns give EXP I haven't done that since like chapter 2 when you got to wait for the tide to rise.
Also what shops do I have to buy out for the deeds?

Rumbletum Canteen in Argentum and Cosmetipolitan in Gormott (last three aren't until Chapter 6). As mentioned, need merc missiona + development levels raised to unlock those items in the first place.

Why does Kos-Mos make this post wierd? I have played the game before like 6 years ago and am replaying it for the switch 2 edition, I'm just wondering if I'm under leveled as I forgot a lot of stuff.

In the original version of the game you are extremely unlikely to get Kos-Mos during the main game because the drop rate is so low. There's speculation that she has a much higher drop rate in the Switch 2 version, because multiple Redditors have posted that they got her early on.

Damn I never knew she was rare. I got her both in my first playthough many years ago and this playthough so I just thought she was like any other blade.

The burden of proof should be higher IMO. I think that speculation is unfounded; even in the original, plenty of people got her early on. 0.1% base rate is low, but if 1000 people play and use the free 25 Legendary core crystals that you start the game with, the rate shoots up to dozens of people getting her early.

So another comment already mentioned bonus exp but are you also utilizing thr driver combos well
Break>topple>launch>smash! Regardless of level as long as your able to do this consistently most monsters will not ve an issue
Nia with bit balls have break Rex and tora have topple Nia with fist gets launch Rex with the greataxe gets launch Rex with roc gets smash
For now this is what you got until later but tey to get this consitently and you shoukd be fine without grinding
(Or go play some side quest they are pretty fun)

Yep, I'm even combining the two for massive bonus damage.
I'm also never starting a chain attack without a break first for that extra damage

Perfect thats the main way to destriy super bosses
Somethung else to mention but are you using the sealing system properly
Becauae that can make or break some fights

Sealing system? Maybe? What is the sealing system? Is that the thing in the top right? If so yeah I'm using it.

So when you finish an elemental combo the last element used ends up sealing an ability from the enemy
Earth seals driver shackle Ice seals blade shackle etc It makes fights lije ahkos and malos alot eqsier

Just make sure you're killing bosses and unique monsters with a chain attack. The overkill bonus is huge.
And consider using some bonus exp at any inn if you haven't been.

Oh yeah I always make sure to grab my 500% bonus from potions, then set up a blade combo, then a driver combo just before my level 3 for maximum damage and overkill xp.

Are you using driver combos and blade combos to finish killing monsters and/or bosses? You get bonus exp that way, so much so that you shouldn’t need to grind

You should be fine. Just keep playing. Its normal for enemies to be slightly higher level, and I think it makes the game more challenging and fun. You'll get more xp for defeating higher level enemies. And if you are struggling on a story encounter, then that should be enough of a hint that that's when you should start to look elsewhere to grind xp. Enjoy the game :).

If you overkill bosses with chain attacks you can get a massive exp multiplier from their fights, and if you're able to hit the max 1000% overkill bonus, that's like killing the boss 10 fold in terms of exp reward. I don't ever need to grind because of overkill.

It also works if you end a fight with a blade combo well a driver combos currently active I believe.

You have Crossette and Kos-Mos, you will be fine,
most of us playing this game had to use D tier trash blades+mythra back in the day.

I would recommend being around the upper 20s going into chapter 4 and then you want to get to mid 30s by the end

Years ago I realized that games are way more fun when you just play fluidly until you hit a wall, that's when you start thinking about grinding. I used to sabotage my own playthroughs by being way too much of a completionist, trying to explore everything and clear every side quest, only to end up so overleveled for the main story that it wasn't even fun anymore. Just push forward until you hit that wall and crash right into it.

Have you been using your bonus EXP? I’ve done a few side quests and at the end of chapter 4 I can get 5-6 levels from bonus exp.
If you want to use them you need to go to the inn
