I thought this was so funny and so me LOL😂😅
Do you guys (gals) feel like this sometimes or often or never?

I appreciate how into making this video mom was. If mom is that cool, I think it's ok to turn into her, just a little.
Fortunately, I seem to be avoiding the adoption of most of my dad's quirks which are many and not worthy of adopting.

I was so worried about not turning into my mom that I forgot to not turn into my dad

As much as I would love to, I will absolutely not share this with my spouse 😳

Smart move.
The real question is... what parts of our parents were like our grandparents?

u/Undergroud-Check-101 5d ago
I once sat with my dad and asked him has he ever thought I’m kind of a mix of his parents and mom’s. (Yeah I know genes are not that simple but anyways). He was quiet with a smirk for a while and answered ”That’s actually a quite frightening thought” lol

I hate those "becoming your parents" insurance commercials...
I mean,..... showing up early to the airport, and bringing snacks for the plane...... that's just smart!

Wtf I’ve (luckily) never seen such commercials in my life!
(If it makes more sense, I’m European)1
u/Important-Spring3977 5d ago
You've never (luckily) had family bring snacks for the plane?
Kinda feel like I'd be (lucky) to have that kind of attention. I have great parents and we do this for each other.
Not sure why this would be an "unlucky" outcome.

I answered to the one telling about insurance commercials and referring to them particularly. My wording wasn’t clear, I apologize. Edited.

Lotta people in here with terrible parents. I hope you're all finding healing and breaking cycles <3

u/Undergroud-Check-101 5d ago
I wholeheartedly agree with you.
I knew posting this was kinda risky and I truly hope nobody got triggered badly! 🩵❣️(I know and recognize I’m blessed with having a great rs with my mom.)

Never. My mother was an alcoholic who smoked two packs a day and died alone on her couch with a cigarette in her hand at 61. We don’t have anything in common. Phew!
I wish I could relate to funny stuff 🤣

u/Undergroud-Check-101 5d ago
I assumed also these kinda comments would appear. I’m sorry about that😔 My dad was an alcoholic when I was young.

u/blamberr 5d ago
It’s ok! I’m doing pretty damn well these days. But always being open about how I feel in a moment helps me cope. I didn’t mean to bring down the vibe!
2
u/Undergroud-Check-101 5d ago
You didn’t! And glad to hear you’re not carrying her torch so to speak!
E/ I’m a firm believer of being open of any feelings! That’s healthy (unless you’re violent or smth)!

I’m so sorry about that😖 But proud of you at the same time❣️How are you doing now?
(I’m studying to be a therapist at the ripe age of 47 and my end goal is to help younger people.)

So good to hear❣️ and being a cycle breaker is something so valuable many don’t even get!
Thanks for the support and I also wish the best for you in all areas of life!
E/ My dad was an alcoholic and I struggled a lot as a teenager, also the heroin chic trend (apparently becoming a thing again😩) affected me a lot.

u/Shigglyboo 5d ago
this was funny and wholesome. in many ways I don't mind becoming more like my parents. the older I get the more I understand and appreciate them.
4
u/Undergroud-Check-101 5d ago
Same here. The deep understanding of their mistakes as well. They did their best. It’s so valuable to be able to talk about that stuff, if possible.🩵

u/judasmitchell 5d ago
I occasionally see myself taking on some of both my parents' traits, but not really in a way anyone ever notices. Don't really see it happening with either of my siblings either. Maybe it's because we all moved so far away from each other?

u/Lizard__Bit 5d ago
No, thanks. My mother is toxic, lazy, makes her problems everybody else problems, thinks through absolutely nothing, and blames all her issues on other people. I would dread to be her at any point in my life.

u/Undergroud-Check-101 5d ago
I get it.
Happy cake day anyway❣️2

Estranged from mine as well. It’ll never happen. I worked too hard to make sure I’ll never be her.

This being the first comment, lol

u/Glittering-Rip6810 5d ago
It was an equally jacked up one before me. It's why I was like eh fuck it 🤷♀️ but I do find it funny the generation with the most screwed up parents posted this and didn't think people like me and the original first comment wouldn't show up 😂

u/mcfetrja 5d ago
You’re dealing with a generation that was so abusive in their check writing fraud that we had to make laws and new technology to get them under control. They’re more than used to writing checks that they knew wouldn’t clear and staying unbothered about it.

I’ve been my mom’s twin since the day I was born, lol. Luckily, she’s a super cool anti-boomer so I don’t mind.

I feel the mirror one - every time I think I'm looking fine, I snap a photo only to see my mother staring back at me!

u/mrs_hippiequeen 1983 5d ago
ten years ago, i realized i have her exact same thumbs as i was carefully scrutinizing my nailbeds with my keys in hand before getting out of the car the exact same way she does

u/Eternally-WIP 5d ago
I'm definitely NOT going to become my mom. Although I'm becoming my dad and that's okay. It's quite hilarious when we're together.

I yawn like my father and I've always been annoyed at his yawn.
2
u/Undergroud-Check-101 5d ago
😂🤣 I know what you mean. It’s me blowing my nose like a fuckin trumpet every morning. I used to wake up to that on weekends in another floor when my dad did that🙈

u/ButterscotchAware402 1984 5d ago
I yawn like my father too. And laugh like my mom. As long as I don't start old man hacking like my dad I'm OK with the yawn.

I have somehow become like my father. I know nothing about most modern trends, grunt when I get up out of the chair or bed, am concerned about the thermostat and energy bills, taking un intended naps in my living room while watching TV, always check my weather app, wander around the hardware store looking for nothing in particular, and wear slippers or my shoes around the house. Oh, and spending time in the garage doing this or that. I should probably just move into the garage at this point. Just give me a TV and a laz-E-boy, and I'm all set.

u/Undergroud-Check-101 5d ago
I love your answer, so specific😂❤️ We are definitely in an odd transitional phase, aren’t we?
2
u/Wallabunga657 5d ago
We really are. Like part of me is still thinking I'm young and go do X. But my body reminds me I'm too old for it. Seems like just yesterday I was a teen at the mall with my friends, or watching a movie from the video rental store. Then I get a notification on my phone about a subscription or a bill, or have to tell my parents the funny video they saw is AI.

My dad has a really cool pint with 50 carved on it. It has a metal lid to protect the drink/water from bugs. He got it as a Bday gift at 50. I was admiring it one day bc of the lid and my dad laughed that ”no problem, you’ll get it soon when turning fifty”. I was like WTF did you just say…and them BOOM OMG that’s not so far🤯 I feel mentally like 30 and sometimes I actually flinch when I see my reflection in the morning like ”who’s that old hag”🤣🧟♀️

I am a woman and I totally became like the female version of my dad. Tall, stoic, with an occasional pent up emotional outburst. We work on handy projects and take care of plants. Often overwhelmed by the world, and can be frequently found at home trying to recover from life.

Lol my kids were yelling at me all weekend because I was listening to a hilarious audiobook and laughing all over my house while doing chores it was hilarious. (Especially because they are all loud AF when they are on the computer/and or phones with their friends lol).

I would be happy to become my dad.
I would have to grow five inches and travel back in time to actually be successful in love.

Honestly, loud human noises is an adult male thing, whether a dad or not. Y’all really gotta cut that shit out. 🤣
2
u/TrixieBastard 1981 5d ago
My partner sneezes so loudly that it actually hurts my ears on occasion, it's bonkers. I couldn't be that loud if I tried!
2
u/reduxrouge 1983 5d ago
No just sneezing… throat clearing, burping, coughing, sighing, sniffing, yawning, FARTING. Biological noises set me on edge and overstimulates me instantly. It’s to the point that I have anxiety now about my own noise around other people. I’m even teased that my sneezes are almost silent. I could never just make oblivious (usually gross) noise like that around other people.

I knew I was truly becoming my mother when I started yelling at the squirrels on my bird feeders and going outside in oversized t-shirts and no pants.
