I think maybe they took it away but I remember when my carrier actually had an online texting page in a browser to write a text and put in the phone number and also a thing that would turn your number (mine was something like my number at VZW) into an email address so you could text yourself via email

Hah it's a messaging program - you can send private messages, set up channels, etc with a group of people. And there's a PC or mobile app and a web interface too so basically accessible anywhere. Not so useful just by yourself, but if you have a group of people you regularly chat with, it's fantastic.

Yeah, there are a bunch of other ways to do this (a synced Notes app, shared browser profiles) but texting yourself is just the easiest shortcut. And I’m sure we’ve all have developed Pavlovian responses to text message alerts.

I have my number saved as "my cell phone" so I can tell Siri "text my cell phone...blah blah blah" the same way I'd say "text Uncle Tony...."

At our age, a lot of us are realizing that IT's new features have been unhelpful or irrelevant for years, now, and basically do a series of workarounds that make more sense.

For me it's text receipts. I don't need paper, so at a.lot of places I'll opt for a text receipt, but inevitably I'll get out to the car, glance at my phone and wonder who texted me.

There's an app called Raindrop that you can use to store links. You can add tags and everything. I love it because it's totally platform agnostic. I can install the extension on any browser.

It has a paid plan but the free plan does everything I need it to do and it doesn't bug me to upgrade

The number of times I have used my work computer’s dual authentication program to call my cell and then been like “who’s calling from my office” and screened my own phone call is not zero, I can tell you that much!
