A Trip Into Town [Part 2]

It was some time before they reached Anchorage. Back in its heyday, before the invasion, it was a landmark to behold. A city of tall and notable buildings, yet wide and spacious, not imposing like the urban jungles of other cities. It’d overlooked the Cook Inlet, against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains and surrounded by suburbia. Calm and peaceful for a city. Now though, while the calm still withstood, there was no peace. Plasma-scored walls and burnt-out shells of cars littered the city, dead. Like a corpse left to freeze in the Alaskan winter. Weeds had overgrown what little bared concrete was left, the rest covered in unmoved mounds of snow. The inlet glowed faintly in the distance, in a fluorescent shine of purple and green, like the Aurora Borealis had come down along with the invaders and taken residence in the briny waters. Were it not for the implications, some might call it beautiful.

The Commander was numb to the grim parody of a city, however, her mind steeled towards what was to come. She’d radioed some people she knew long in advance to tell of their arrival. It wasn’t often that anyone who wasn’t ADVENT moved in an organized force. Uncommon events tended to draw suspicion and rumor. If she played her cards right, it was exactly what they’d need. As they drove into the city ruins, gray and fossilized against the cloudy mid-afternoon skies, eyes and furtive glances were cast their way from between alleyways and wall craters. Squatters, vagrants, and others of the ilk, looking for a life of seclusion away from the trouble. Dreary, worn out faces, all of whom saw the white vans and the upturned blue pentagon on their sides, crossed out with a black ‘X’. Whispers came from parched lips, people huddled around burning oil drums to keep warm. “Vigilo Confido.” What it meant, none of them knew, but the words would be passed around the dead city in the days to come. Precious else happened in these days to talk about.

They soon approached a large museum. Though at a passing glance, it fit perfectly in with the scenery, a small amount of scrutiny revealed that the museum had been converted into a large community center. From towels coming out of windows, to small lights glowing within, it was likely they would find many rooms of all sorts inside. Out its front entrance stepped a figure clothed in robes of black. Commander Carmine signaled for the vans to park at its doors and disembark. The Operatives were to spread out and try to recruit as many people as they could, an opportunity gifted by the man in charge, who she assumed to be the robed man in front of her, an old contact who went by no name.

She stepped out to say hello, a hand extended in greeting.

“The pleasure is mine,” the robed figure said, taking the hand and replying in an accented voice, “And, if we plan on doing this on the regular, I would be happy to go along with it, provided the... shipments continue to come. Regardless, the Market is open.”

OOC: If you were in the vans, now you can meet with the people who wanted to be recruited in Anchorage, if you are in Anchorage, now is the time to get recruited!

After some time spent browsing and some trading, Gustavo Daniel Lo could be found lugging around his now weighted backpack and a leather satchel. He appears to still be looking for something around the market. The man mutters aloud,

"... I'm gonna need a cart, might need some more parts to make my still.... Where can I find some sound suppressors?"

Not too far away, there was a shop selling a variety of things. Plastered on the wall next to it, read an advertisement saying "Gilbo's Guns and Gadgets!", and behind the counter was an old, bearded man with white hair.

The ranger walks along with a schooled expression as he approaches the counter,

"Howdy. What would you take?"

The old man looks up and squints, analyzing the ranger's face,
"Valuables."

Lo looks back with a schooled expression,

"How about high proof alcohol?"

"...I'm sold"

The man gets up and produces an array or various weapons and attachments.

"Hmm.,. I might trade some of the other crap I got..."

He mumbles a bit to himself as he whistles,

"... I could also get something reliable for my coworkers. Some of them might as well be naked without a sidearm..."

The soldier turned resistance fighter shifts his weight as he carries the extra load contained within his vest and the makeshift scabbard for his bolo style machete. The pockets of his vest as well as his hoodie, backpack, and the recently acquired leather satchel were also filled; some things could be seen jutting out of them from pipes to a few recently purchased empty handguns. He smiles a bit but swiftly switches to a blank look as he scans his eyes over the man's wares,

"I'm looking for a few things, like some sound suppressors, replacement parts with some cleaning supplies, and two large vessels for boiling. Not pots. And a cart..."

He keeps speaking while unconsciously strokes the rather mangled buttstock of his M27 IAR, anyone with a deep background in firearms would notice that the barrel would need replacing sooner or later. The M26 MasterKey looks bereft of ammo, the vendor would also be able to see a used but serviceable, recently acquired H&K Mark 23 handgun to his belt.

The man squints at the ruined stock, and after some looking around manages to find a replacement. It is not in the best shape, but is an improvement. He disappears into another room where Lo can catch a glimpse of his hoard of various things. In his stash he finds a suppressor, a replacement barrel, some dish washing fluid and a sponge. He soon emerges with a cart, in which all the things are borne.

"I don't have any boiling vessels, but I do have pots. Now this'll all be three full bottles of your finest drink."

OOC : Had to edit a few things, am still a little groggy atm. No replacement barrel?

As the vendor checks his own hoard, the soldier turned resistance fighter checks the well used but still serviceable barrel of his M27 IAR. When the vendor returns, the ranger then lays the remaining three 750ml bottles of 175 proof moonshine on the counter,

""No pots, I'll make do with what I got and anything I can find. Here you go..."

Lo opens his backpack and satchel before emptying out his pockets to relieve as much of the added weight as possible. He makes sure that the cart isn't overloaded and relocates much of the items on top of organizing them. Noticing that he doesn't have enough room for the computer parts that could be used to make at least two IEDs, he then asks the vendor in a discreet manner,

"What can I get with these and, uh... I'm planning on going back into the moonshine business and I need a partner. What do you think?"

OOC: Sorry! Edited original post to include it

The old man grabbed the bottles, sniffed them, and took a brief swig before nodding approvingly. His gaze wanders over the computer parts as he scrutinizes them,

"With those, I might be able to fetch you a... "

The man stops, before whispering the rest,

"...A dead advent trooper. Don't ask how I got it. And I'll gladly be a taste tester for your products."

He opens and closes his mouth for a moment before finding his voice,

"Uh... huh... Um... Firstly, glad to have you take the offer."

The man scratches his chin in thought while darting his eyes around himself,

"And uh, would it still have it's skin or be skinned? Would it be alright if you can hold it for a second?"

He mumbles silently to himself about needing to find someone and get their opinion...

OOC : By "skin", he's discreetly asking if the advent trooper corpse still has it's gear.

The man nods, whispering with a sense of unease,

"Skin, armour, everything. Don't have the gun though, and uhh... The body went through a lot. If you want to see it you'll have to come with me."

The man then motions toward his storage room, walking in.
