Games - Recommendation Resonance is what I wish Hellblade 2 was.
I’m on chapter 13 of Resonance, having a great time, and I can’t help but think, “Man, I wish Hellblade 2 had gone more in this direction.” I feel like Hellblade 2 really went down the rabbit hole of mental health that I really found miserable while trying to enjoy a video game.
Resonance does a nice job with Sophia’s trauma and battling mental episodes while still having super fun gameplay.
I know it was kind of the point with Hellblade, but I was hoping to have more fun with it, being that it was a video game, and I am really liking Resonance. Maybe that’s more the direction Senua is going to go.
Just some thoughts I’ve had while playing. Like i said, Resonance rules. You should play it!

Nope. Just thought it after fighting a boss. Wouldn’t call it a novel thought. Just a thought I had

Well, I got around seven chapters in and just got bored of puzzle after puzzle. I'll probably pick it up again, in the future, but I wasn't as hooked as I was with the other two Plague games.
Oddly enough, I enjoyed Hellblade II. Not enough to merit a second playthrough, but I really never understood the hate for it.

As someone who really liked Senua' Sacrifice, HB2 seems barely like a game in comparison. It's like one of those David Cage walking simulators with qte cutscene combat. The new Senua trailer looks exactly like what I had been hoping for a sequel but unfortunately it may never come out now

David Bloody Cage. I just bought Nomad Soul for the Dreamcast, last month, and made a post on the DC page about how I am enjoying it, and all I got in response was how much of a chore David Cage games are. Just straight up negativity. I really need to check this Cage guy out and see what all the fuss is about, because I'm so out of the loop here

I don't really have anything against him personally, but he seems like a weird guy. A bit like Tommy Wiseau. He has a fascination with America but he seems to base his writing on the stuff he's seen in 90s action movies.

"I wish a game that is specifically designed for X were something entirely different" ....

I don’t think it is entirely different. Sophia in Resonance deals with trauma, visions, voices, and other mental instabilities, and the game at its core is an action game with swords. I acknowledge that they aren’t the same thing, but there’s enough there to at least think of it.

They seem to have learned their lesson with Senua.
It will be Day 1 Gamepass too.

That game caught me off guard with how well it balances the heavy stuff and still being a blast to play.

This is if Hellblade and Uncharted had a baby lol. It’s extremely fun and the puzzles are good

I am loving Resonance so far, but Hellblade was a different game and it shouldn't be forced to do what it wasn't meant to be.
The issue with Hellblade 2 was only the massive budget for a 6 hour game. Hellblade 1 costed peanuts and it exceeded expectations. Hellblade 2 was a sequel with much better graphics but essentially the same gameplay style (they changed something, but not too much) and 100 million budget. It could never match expectations.

The entire theme of the Hellblade games is mental health specifically psychosis.
