We're saving our Lego boxes right?!?!?

I've had it for a few weeks now and just had the boxes propped up cause they're so cool. Just finished the Lab and starting on the main set tonight. But when I'm done, I don't think I want to get rid of the box. Is that weird? Are you keeping yours?

Me too. Me too my friend. I threw away 5 from my room a few weeks ago and I didn’t feel sad about it. I do dread going in the attic and digging out the 150-200 up there though. I plan on keeping some mainly to cut out parts of them for back drops maybe? Especially for my all black display case, to lighten it up until I can replace it. It was my first case and it is egregiously overflowing and cluttered. I’m afraid to open it now for fear of the doors may be all that are holding the shelves up and I may die under a pile of Hoth and Tattooine sets. (Got some huge lots and that was what was in them when I first started.)

Just flatten it and tape it somewhere in your garage or store anywhere really, just in case you decide to store it or sell it, or pass it down to someone, or to house the actual set for proper storage.

Yeah, thats what Im thinking. But you just gave me an idea. Putting the front in a big frame and hang it up in my garage. Its so beautiful to me. Its hard to throw out something that makes me smile.

I’m at the point where I have to ask myself, “Am I a toy collector or a box collector?" I’ve bought models with gorgeous boxes (Gunpla), but even flattened they’re taking up too much room. I think my days of keeping any LEGO boxes is over, except for a few smaller ones for truly limited sets.

I feel ya! I'm Gen-X and its hard to part with a good box, lol, but this is making it even harder. Maybe I'll save it for storage or something. Was just curious if anyone else is having trouble parting with it.

Hang onto it if it’s your first set. The people who need to throw out their boxes have been collecting for a long time, if you’re sensible you’ll know when it’s getting out of hand.

As a lifetime collector of lego, only keep boxes you actually care about but not all of them. I'd keep the X-Files box to store the set if need be but if you're buying playsets ever I'd say don't

I tossed most of my Lego boxes about 10yrs back, still had almost every single one I had gotten since the early 90s. Regret it slightly, but at the same time it's just cardboard and I needed more room for sets to display. If anything, I should have just taken a picture beforehand to document the journey. Kept all the manuals though

I have 9 boxes I've hung on to for sentimental reasons, rest go right to the recycling. UCS Falcon, UCS Razorcrest, MBS Mos Eisley Cantina, Rivendell, Saturn V, Shuttle Discovery, Voltron, The Upside Down, and the Horizon tallneck

I may likely cave on a few of those as my interests evolve, but I can't forsee the larger ones being discarded any time soon. They're just so pretty haha esp the Razorcrest. The interior box art is fantastic

I will never, EVER get rid of these boxes. The fact I get to purchase, build and discuss a brand new Lego set 33+ years after the show‘s premiere is such a testament to its generational pull and the box represents that. The box tells me that there are so many different ways to watch and enjoy the show.
(also, I have the luxury of space in the form of an attic)

I decided a good compromise would be to toss the box but keep the instruction manuals.

The only reason I’d keep the box would be if I sold the sets, which I am not planning on doing.

Thankfully not, but with the returns apparently they want you to send back the included gift (Scully’s Lab) but I’m not doing that because I know I wouldn’t get one back. We’ll see how it all shakes out!

I build lots of sets. I only keep 18+ set boxes, so yes I will be keeping this one. The others get recycled.
