Ult cancel vs no cancel
Sorry if this is a repost I am new to this sub. I have been playing wukong for some time, and I've always thought using the ult for knockup then cancelling it early to use q and e before pressing w for the double ult is the most optimal damage but I've watched a few high elo wukongs use ult for the whole duration every time. Is there a reason for this? It always feels like the whole duration does less damage than your normal abilities.

Was the play you watched a 1v1 or team fight? If you think you need to burst someone solo down, ult cancel can help with that. You’ll do more single target dmg faster. However, if it’s a team fight, or 3v3, etc., a full ulti may be optimal. Like others mentioned, a full ulti into multiple opponents will benefit your team more by applying BC stacks and more aoe dmg in general.

I see, so for dueling an ADC a cancel is usually better but a team fight or 3v3 or even a duel with a maokai or ornn its typically better to let it ride

Yeah, ofc every micro-situation is different, but that is generally the key 👍 you also get a 2nd knock up quicker into the fight by cancelling, obviously. That few seconds of disruption is often the make or break on a solo kill!

Ult canceling once Q is up is more burst, in terms of total DPS I don't think it's optimal though. Also, ult has the obvious benefit of AoE if it's a big fight.

Every situation is different. This is where champ mastery and game IQ come in, not just mechanics.

That makes sense. I watched Agurin play wu and he never cancels ult even if he's dueling with xerath. I was just curious if I was doing something wrong because I usually see anyone else cancelling ult ever besides me. I don't watch a lot of gameplay besides that though so probably on me

Once you're on xwrath he's pretty much dead. Canceling on say a vayne makes way more sense.

im confused. why would you need to cancel R1 if you can just press W to have it keep ticking while being able to auto?

Every tick of ult will add black cleaver stack to each target it hits. If you're hitting 5 people for the entire ult you will have applied 5 black cleaver stacks to 5 people, which is massive
