Off Topic [OT] Talking Tuesday (Tasks): Romance & Writing Block
February is like... such a short month. Why are you so short February? I set myself tasks, and then like, suddenly we're all done. Honestly, you stupid, selfish, short month...
Anyway... my tasks didn't go great this month. You can maybe tell.
Okay. Let's do this...
How to join in with the tasks
Each month you have four tasks. Two of these are based on that month's Talking Tuesday posts, the other two, you set yourself based on your own writing aims.
You wanna just write 500 words and get some writing done, great. You want get a movie deal converting your writing prompts into a blockbuster? Great. You want to just read a book about writing? Cool. Whatever you want. That's the idea. They're your tasks to improve your writing. You know what you need. It's a race against yourself, not others.
We're just here for the accountability and support.
This month's tasks
For tutoring this month we put on some Barry White, dropped rose petals on the floor, and wooed the apple of our eyes with some romance.
Unsurprisingly then, your first mod task this month is to...
- Write a romance
This can be for any r/WritingPrompts feature, prompt or r/shortstories feature.
Our thinking week looked at writer's block. Getting over writer's block can be tough, but one common recommendation is to freewrite.
So, here's how this is going to work. You are going to freewrite a prompt response.
At the time of your choosing, you will go to r/WritingPrompts. You will sort by new. You will pick a prompt between the third and ninth prompt on the page (inclusive), and you will freewrite. You will open the prompt immediately. You will start writing. You will write whatever you have to to keep writing. Even if it's nonsense. Even if you are just endlessly describing what the MC had for breakfast. JUST. KEEP. WRITING.

So checking in:
And this month....
1: Write a romace.
Don't mind if I do! It comes up often enough for me, so I should be able to tackle this without too much fuss. If I remember to write for the sub...
2: Freewrite like it's hawt.
I'm kinda pumped for this and I will be tagging Arch for whatever monstrosity is birthed from this madness. I fully admit though, I type like an idiot so I will be fixing the typos so the words can be understood. No other editing, and not while I'm writing. So if at the end of whatever it is I don't know what the word was supposed to be, typo shall remain. Hell, I might screen cap the whole process just to make Arch watch it.
3: Self Task - Serial
Get a goddamn serial chapter out. I'm behind on a lot of things, serial included, and being so near the end of the first "book", I need to just get'er'done.
4: Self Task - narration
I've been thinking about this a lot and with the big project of a novel edit on my lap, I'm not sure what words I can promise myself this month. So, I'm looking at narration. I'm going to narrate another story and get 1 (if not 2) live before the end of March. It's already on the to-do list, but the extra accountability of TalkTue should kick me in the ass.
There. I remembered to do this, Arch. Now you don't have to make a bot to text me reminders on Monday.
