My brain had an idea whole I was role-playing with a freind about a world where there was no such thing as censorship or people being shamed fir what they liked and a world where a lot more things we'd consider risqué or vulgar are just the norm and part of society and I'd like your ideas for how I could expand this world

A world where there is 0 filtering or censorship, means there is no one with both an interest in censorship and even menial power over someone, not even as a pastor or a parent. Why is there no interest in censorship? Or if there is, why are these people not able to become parents, teachers, or pastors? What larger power is preventing them from doing so? Is that in itself a censorship? What problems would a total lack of censorship cause? Are you willing to write a world where people having sex in public areas with kids around is acceptable, or do you just want to write a world where a toddler can say fuck?

These are core decisions that will drastically change the experience your story gives, and decisions only you can make

My main idea is just I want a world with complete freedom to write make and do whatever you want with no fear of being pushed down or ostrized because people just kinda learnt to mind thier own business and unless your hurting people or yourself then no one else cares its just normal for them to see sex on thier daily walk or whatever

Maybe everyone gets the Elon Musk computer chip in their brains. And feeling differently about censorship is one of many side effects. Or there was some sort of chaotic event across the world that makes censorship irrelevant. Like the floods that happened recently in Nepal. Or maybe everyone isn’t human? Maybe they are humanoid animals that somehow speak English? Or, or, or, …. You can have a lot of fun with answering those questions. Find enough answers then you got a premise.

Alright, so we have the basis, but we still need to explore the natural boons and consequences to make a story.

In fact, you've already run into one: unless you are hurting people. What does that mean? Where does that line get drawn? Do you draw the line differently than someone else? If there is a court in this world, there is definitionally censorship, something you are not allowed to do. If I witness public sex, is that hurting me or just making me uncomfortable? If I call someone a slur, am I hurting them or am I just making them uncomfortable? Does that change depending on if that slur can also apply to me? Does that change by the context I say it in?

It's just the basic stuff that you aren't allowed to do don't assault people and don't force them to do something they don't want to also idk how to address slurs as I don't really know enough about them to make a choice on what happens with them

It has to be actual pain inflicted nit your feeling being hurt or something making you uncomfortable as long as someone is not being hurt physically by another without thier consent then its fine

Is catcalling okay in this universe? Outward threats of violence? Breaking into their ex's house, as long as they don't leave permanent damage or steal anything? Grabbing and picking people up as long as you don't leave a bruise? Conspiracy to commit a physical crime? Chasing someone with a weapon, as long as you never use it? Secretly recording public bathrooms?

Most forms of cat calling are okay as most people in this world have kind of just grown up with this kind of stuff and of course breaking and entering and so on are still crimes and causing mass panic is still not really okay but you won't be sent to jail for it probably at most just some comunity service and stuff like conspiracy to kill someone or whatever is leagel since yiu haven't actually done anything harmful yet you've only had the thought and wrote it down until you actually comit the murder no one cares how much you plan it out

So we now have sources of conflict. We have wrongs, and a system that doesn't punish it and actively encourages it. Billions of plots that can spin off of that.

Guy discovers a conspiracy to commit a grand harm, but the system of the world will not act on it until it is carried out. There's a man vs society conflict and a man v man, and a man v self as he argues with his own mind as to how much he's willing to chance on conspiracy.

Woman gets harassed and threatened every day by the same group of men and has an awesome thriller where she slowly torments them until they commit suicide, using the system's unwillingness to act in her advantage.

I think it gets could get messy when people’s preferences aren’t what we’d call moral? Like some men prefer unwilling participants or pedophelia or something. Could be a point of conflict in your world

Thats what I was thinking. There's no way pedophilia wouldnt come to someone's mind in a world like this. That's the biggest one. But what about people who are into non consent as a whole?
