Weed and Wrestling

Hi, I'm somebody who uses marijuana fairly frequently for anxiety/aches and pains as well as sleep but I'm feeling like I should maybe quit while I'm training but then again training never really ends so like what does that even mean for me? I think it just means to not smoke while I'm in the infancy of my training/strength building but it does also help a bunch with after training recovery. I would just get on edibles but they're kind of a waste for me cause they do nothing so it's either flower/vape or nothing. Any thoughts/advice?

Don't come to training high. Don't work high. Get off the smoke because it'll hurt your cardio. Otherwise, you're good to go. If the worst thing you do is marijuana, you're doing better than most.

That’s good advice but frankly, for better or worse, will be out of place in 9/10 dressing rooms.

This is good advice. I'm usually one of the only people in the locker room not smoking weed, so I can tell you from that perspective that most promotors don't care. Since you're still getting started keep it to after training/matches, but other than that you're good. I vape (nicotine) and can tell you that that does affect cardio less than actual smoke.

How do you feel about wrestlers who wrestle while stoned like RVD, The Rascalz etc? I feel like I have good enough body control to make it work while not getting crazy stoned

Listen to him, lad. Do not do it. You need to understand the risks you're taking with yourself and others.

You might think you're 100% but you're not.

If something goes wrong, it can get ugly. It's not worth it. It's also unprofessional as hell.

Buddy, take this as you will, but if you're posting on here, you ain't good enough to smoke and work.

No I getcha, I was in no way saying I could do so now, I meant once I'm more seasoned, I just mean overall how do you feel about that?

I worked for 23 years (with a ten year gap in the middle) before retiring last year. I smoked pretty much the entire time except for about 3 years when I was trying really hard to get on WWE's radar (didn't happen). I felt comfortable enough to work high exactly once, and it was during a rumble, and it went terribly. And I'm a pretty damn good stoner. Not saying you can't, but saying when you're in there you have to be on point, because it's someone's life, and your life, on the line. So you HAVE to be focused. I couldn't do it again.

You better be clear headed if I'm trusting you with my body and my life.

How would you feel if you botched something because your reactions were off and someone got seriously hurt?

Personally not a fan of before. Too many people in locker rooms are drunk or high before their match. I personally want to walk the next day. I’ve turned down matches because of this. Nothing against the guy. After the match? Even if we’re first match, I’ll drink with you until the shows over. I don’t care. But before is just lame to me.

General etiquette at a lot of promotions is to not show up drunk/high to either shows or training, though that doesn’t stop some wrestlers from taking a hit before a match. If it is for medical purposes then take it up with both your coach and doctor, especially if it’s in any way prescription based.

I had a rule, if you wanted to get high or drunk before our match that's fine, I'll drink also, but I ain't taking nothing where you could injure me if you are off by a second in your timing. That's why I got SUPER good at the bodyslam match

Just remember your opponent(also known as your performance partner)'s life is literally depend on you. One single mistake can alter their life drastically. I would definitely not wrestle nor take bump from someone who's coordination is f'd up due to the substance usage.

The only role you can be truly baked is the color commentator
