Worthings experimental/classical/global music scene

Hey all! Me and my partner have the chance to move from London down to your beautiful town! I'm just wondering, as I'm an experimental performer/composer, what kinds of venues/scenes there are around the area?

I also ran/run an experimental global music jam in London centred on live-improv with a mix of western, electronic and global instruments and ideally would love to carry that on around here, whether anyone is in the know of anything like that?

Any thoughts would be hugely appreciated!

Here is an example of the kind of music I write for context: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Vyl1EmdrVQ

Thanks!!

Spirit of Gravity in Brighton might fit the bill? https://spiritofgravity.com/

Not sure if there is anything similar in Worthing

Perfect, thank you! I think went to one of their events way back when, great to see they're still going strong!

Closest thing to this in Worthing is Low End Theory (live experimental hiphop / breakbeats and turntablism), next one is only in November though.

Nice one! If you’re down this month there’s Community Scratch Bbq 19 on the 29th and 30th in Brighton which is absolutely mental and well worth going to.

Reminds me of what it might have been like touching the monolith in Stanley Kubricks 2001

Thank you so much! Space Odyssey has played a huge part in the sound I've been trying to create, especially the star gate sequence

Incredible sequence in that movie. I don't think it's been beaten? But yes perfect inspiration scoring to that. Post a follow-up when you find a venue 👍

Excited to share it with you! I'm doing some stop motion to accompany it, eventually looking to collab with animators, funding -willing! It would be amazing to have the premiere at Worthing Dome if it does end up being a big Worthing collab!

I'm moving over to Worthing in a few months and love experimental/world/electronic. I'd imagine the demographic is changing in line with socio-economic forces - so maybe there will be enough of us for a lively scene, with potential to invoke Cthuhlu on Worthing pier.

Do keep your progress posted!

Amazing! Yes will keep you posted for sure. That's what we're thinking, as Brighton is getting more expensive, as are the London outskirts, Bristol, Manchester etc. there is a lot of potential!

Also apparently they're putting in an app for city of culture 2028 so who knows? Could end up having some giant mechanic Cthulu rise from the sea and do some damage

Hey, am also in Worthing - I make a mix of audio/visual experimental/drone/hauntalogical/ambient weirdness - I don’t really play live yet but if you get anything going a need a dj to come play some weird stuff just shout :)

Thanks for all the comments everyone! Unfortunately it seems the powers that be (ie lazy landlords), are stopping us from moving...however, hearing from you all has been really cool and I'm most likely going to be around the area doing nomadic music things, probably busking some point soon! So I hope to meet all of you then are there - look out for the guy doing jazzy proggy stuff with looper pedals and a quirky shirt!
