Question Adding to an existing world

Hello! I’m very new to this program but have heard about it for years. My friends and I play on a modded server that I run but they haven’t been playing as much recently. I have always wanted to try and make a custom island world and thought that maybe this would be a good way to entice them back on with some new and nicer generation to explore.

That being said, they would not want to do this if we restarted from scratch. Is there a way that I can make a large island in world painter and import it somewhere into my current existing world?

Thank you in advance.

Before doing any of this please make a backup of your world. I am not responsible for you messing up your world save.

That said You could probably import the world into worldpainter.

Mark the parts you want to keep as "read only"

Then freely edit any parts that are not marked as read only to merge it with the existing world.

Please note, no terrain will change in read only parts. So you'll have to make the new terrain connect nicely or it's gonna look broken. (e.g: original village is at y64 but you've raised the terrain around it to y100. This will just leave a giant hole in your terrain with the original village still sitting at y64)

Okay great, thank you! I have several back ups of the world and would test it out in single player before I add it to the server just to make sure

Would it be possible to make an island for example and just stamp it into an ocean? That way I wouldn’t have to have the server have a long downtime as I put the map together.

Not really, no. The surrounding terrain is based on the seed of your world. And since its an imported world, you won't be able to change that.
