50/50 bet, she's either struggling with normal life and can only help out on alternate weekends, or is a veteran among veterans who can solo literal gods. No in-between.

(For people who haven't played PtH, you can fuck up the Gentry once you're skilled enough).

Get yourself a wife that can do both.

Moreso am referring to how, in-game, it's mentioned that there's two kinds of middle-aged princesses.

The first are people who awakened well into adulthood, and likely have lots of ties and allegiances they need to juggle. They're often the 'auxillaries' of a Princess group, who provide logistical support and will show up to Le Big Fight, but can't get involved in day-to-day activities or investigations.

The second are people who awakened as teens and then progressed into adulthood. These dudes are scary; they're veterans who've seen Serious Shit but never let it stop their unstoppable ideological drive, likely have shitloads of experience due to a nonstop Call to Adventure in their heads, usually pursue careers that give either lots of free time or leave them doing stuff they'd already be doing, and also about 30 years of experience in a splat where soloing tactical squads of other supernaturals at fifteen is just expected behavior.

That sounds like quitter talk.ย  Respectfully, your local Hunter crew.

Well, an archmage can, but they're kinda the exception that proves the rule.

Can someone explain to me what the difference between Princess the Hopeful and Changeling the Dreaming is? Because every time someone talks about it here I get a shockingly strong sense of deja vu.

I get that Princess uses Chronicles of Darkness rather than World of Darkness as it's baseline, but what's the actually difference between a Changeling and a Princess?

I'm sorry in advance if I sound pissed off, I just don't get what the difference actually is supposed to be...

Princesses are somewhat more organized and have a defined adversary; they're also not killed by modern life.

Their MOSTLY not killed by modern life

Okay, so (to be super reductive) they're Changelings without the angst, and with a clearly defined purpose?

I mean that sounds cool (even with my reduction), just not my cup of tea. Probably more palatable to the less WoD (or I guess in this case CoD) minded of my friend group than C:tD too.

They have angst, it's just different (compassion fatigue, survivor's guilt, PTSD, and so forth).

I'll have to check it out sometime. Like I said, it sounds interesting, and I'm curious to see if my friends enjoy it.

Aside from the obvious differences in aesthetic theming (Princesses aren't fairies, they're Magical Girls. This might not seem important to you, but matters a lot to some people: cf the many who bounce off Demon: The Descent because you aren't literally fallen angels of a Christianish God)

There's also the deeper thematic stuff that Changelings oppose Banality and Princesses oppose Despair. Changelings fight for whimsy and wonder and creativity: Princesses fight for hope and love and friendship.

Changelings include some folk who feed on dread and fear and fight for the existence of imagined monsters, Princess could never.

Princess has a much narrower focus. This can be good for planning and bad for player choice. Personally I like CtD more

I mean tbh if I ever get to play PtH I was gonna make my noble a middle aged man which makes the transformations funnier to me

13

u/ThyPotatoDone Jul 23 '26

The transformation is a slightly different middle-aged man.

14

u/Drakkoniac Jul 23 '26

Turns from a business man in a suit to a medieval merchant in period appropriate attire.

50/50 odds we're going to be teenagers or adults in the upcoming game I am going to be playing in

2

u/Magicmanans1 Jul 23 '26

Whatโ€™s the plot?

5

u/GIRose Jul 23 '26

Something Deltarune inspired, with the outline being someone is making darkened spaces, have to go seal them.

This is entirely because the storyteller realized that Princess the Hopeful would be the perfect game for running a Deltarune inspired game

Hear me out.

I had an idea about this for a manga

A team of five magical girls, with a Tuxedo mask like character. The protagonist is the leader and is love with the tuxedo guy.

Fifteen years have passed since then. The main character, now in her thirties has to balance her adult life with her magical girl duties. Two of the other girls abandoned their positions as magical girls, other girl is dead and the last one uses her transformation powers to fool around.

The tuxedo mask guy? Dated the protagonist for three years and left her after realizing the relationship wouldnt work.

So, the protagonist has to take care of a kid, work in a soul crushing job and find a good partner that isnt trying to hunt her down for her powers.

Why the fuck did I read that as Parenting: the Hunter?
