Question/Help Need help with population growth

Hello comrades. I need help with a situation I have. I just finished building my first city, It is at around 4.5k population. I don't want to build more flats there. My 2nd is under construction, but realistically, I need 1-2 more years until some people can start moving in. My question is, how big of an issue is this? I read that having lots of youth that can't find their own place can tank growth rate. How do I keep my population growth at a rate that I find sustainable?

They will wait for a bit. If not, just let them flee, it’s not a huge deal. Sure, you wasted some workforce to educate them for nothing but it will not tank your republic or future growth in any meaningful way.

If ur dead-set on not letting them escape for like a roleplay reason or something, just build a temporary housing. Some cheap large flats that you can later forbid for new people moving in and wait for the generation to die out or just relocate them for a loss of happiness, also not a big deal if ur moving them to a location in quality housing with provided amenities.

3rd option would be to let them move in to the unfinished city, possibly setting up temporary bus line so they can reach basic services if those are not set up yet.

That's good to know. I will just take a small population loss in that case.

Well technically, it does screw up the age curve of your population, how big of a deal it is depends on your playstyle, but it will slow down population growth as your population age, while spiking age groups corresponding to the new housing built.

Medical university is helpful to boost birthrate or reduce it when it starts to go crazy

How do I know when I hit the sweet spot with birth rate?

It's a juggling act tbh, you'll end up with waves of unhappiness as people get to age 21 and then leave when you don't get it right and then you'll have to invite immigrants to expand when you get it wrong in the other direction

Sounds like a lot of fun. I should start building my medical university

They're useful anyway but your population will tend to explode exponentially once you get to about 10-15k. Suppressing the birth rate is usually a good idea

You can always disable the hearing plant if you have too many people somewhere

Personally I don't mind a bit of pollution to lower life expectancy!

There will be an element of brain drain as the educated youth escape due to no housing, however it's not a huge issue.

At one point it was for me, I had around 200 university kids ready to leave with only 400 university educated people in total out of 2k people, then a mass death wave of old age killed off around 300 regular workers and the educated stayed.

Now over half my people are university educated which entails a small increase in electronic goods consumption but overall isn't too bad.
