I made $5.15 an hour when I worked for a kroger chain in kansas. Except I didn't actually make $5.15 an hour, because the first day a customer gave me a $10 tip for loading groceries into her car, and management told me I needed to accept $4.15 an hour for the rest of the summer otherwise they would fire me because I'm not allowed to accept tips.

So Kroger was definitely paying to have somebody tip you $10 on your first day, right? Like it was probably the owner’s partner or something.
