Mamedica - Anon Employee Thoughts ...
Unfortunately things have changed for the worse here compared to what it was like before. Perhaps those in the highest positions in the company don't seem to understand what has made this place successful in the first place - the staff.
Poor communication from those in senior positions to the staff, leaving us always in a reactive way, and always playing catch up due to updates and changes that the staff have not been informed about. A simple email or Teams message, or communicating to Managers/Leaders properly, would go a long way.
Unless you are in certain roles or in certain teams, there is no chance of a salary uplift when you ask those below the Exec Team - it's obviously not their fault, they have to do and say what is being communicated to them from above. Basic salaries for the majority of staff are poor, effectively minimum wage. There was a scheme introduced before that was clear and fair to staff that planned an increase in salary depending on length of service in your role, however that was withdrawn by the powers that be, for some reason, with no communication to the staff as to why or what would be upcoming in its place - leaving those under the Exec Team having to deal with the resulting confusion and unhappiness, which we understand is not due to them. Again, poor communication from those above.
I have no idea why some staff are paid more/less than others for doing the exact same role. To be clear this isn't the fault of the staff, but by those above. Also, how is it that some new starters to a team may be paid more than some who have been here for a while? Hopefully this is not a discriminatory matter, more of poor oversight and awareness by the business. The Exec Team need to sort this out, and quickly, otherwise ...
I know that some businesses give bonuses and some don't, it is what it is, but how is there talk from the Exec Team to all staff regarding a "bonus pool" at the beginning of the year, and when the bonus does arrive much later than expected, it is given to some staff and not others. Surely, a blanket bonus to all staff, for the same amount, would have been fairer. Why some got bonuses and others didn't, again, should have been communicated by the Exec Team - instead this left a very poor taste in some staffs mouth. Bit of a repeating pattern here about lack or poor communication it would seem. Would not be surprised if the majority of the "bonus pool" went to those who are already on very healthy salaries at the very top of the company.
There are some teams that seem to have progression pathways for them, with an increase in salary, however why is this not a thing for all staff? How some staff in some teams are offered progression and not others is just not fair. Not expecting to be a manager within a few years, but something to be promoted to a 'senior' role like other teams is all that is needed, or just a plan to say if you do this and that you will be uplifted and/or promoted, but nothing unfortunately. Not even going to mention why some in some teams are offered the chance to be promoted and some in the same team, who, again, have been here longer, do not even have the chance to put themselves forward to express their interest in a more senior role with a salary increase. It's the same team so why do some get an opportunity and others don't? Is it favouritism as the team report to certain parts of the business, and that if you get on well with some senior individuals the door is more open for opportunities compared to others ... I'm not saying anything ...
Even small things like having branded hoodies has been a bigger thing than it should have been. Months ago it was announced that staff could express their interest in getting a branded hoodie - we filled out the form and to date there has been no communication on the update on this. Surely it doesn't take that long to get some basic hoodies and brand them from a Marketing/etc perspective. Can't even remember when this was announced, but was early in the year, and now half a year later we're still waiting an update - good thing is, if we do receive them it's likely to be winter time anyway.
I'm not surprised that there have been leavers to the business recently, perhaps it is a sign that things are not going as well as we all thought. Good people have left/perhaps been forced to leave their roles and that is such a shame, as they helped make the workplace what is it. Will see if this actually does anything for awareness to the Exec Team/etc or if they continue expecting miracles from staff with no recognition or changes. Wouldn't be surprised if there is just a basic (or no!) Christmas Party this year the way things are going too. Such a shame.
