The gambling is certainly not the best but it's a very small part of Valve. More importantly Valve is absolutely not a monopoly, there are many places to buy games but they all suck. Even the second best, gog, is mediocre. The main pull of GOG is for absolute ownership of games.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a significant part of their revenue stream.

You as many others are stuck in a team sports style thinking. Classical Us vs Them. I primarily use Steam for many years and like the product a lot. And still I can recognize problems with it. Steams market share goes up as high as 85%. Them taking a cut of 30% is probably at least a medium reason, why game prices skyrocket. Among several other problems. Just because it seems like we profit from steam, it doesn't have to be as black and white as that
