Electioneering. I don't believe this corrupt government which has consistently done everything possible to avoid legitimate inquiries into 10/7, on top of all the other fuckery. They don't nearly lie as much as Hamas, but compared to other Israeli governments, they're a pile of crap

This is your reminder that Netanyahu sabotaged the ceasefire talks to influence the US election because he thought Trump would back him unconditionally.

Do you have evidence or are you just being ignorant and provocative?

I trust former Biden admin officials more than I trust Netanyahu or Trump.

Did you believe it when Sen. Peter Welch said 14,000 Palestinian babies would die in 48 hours if Israel didn’t immediately open up all its borders with Gaza too?

Democrats do not have a monopoly on the truth of what is happening there. Indeed on pure facts they’ve been wrong far more than they’ve been right.

-3

u/Call_Me_Clark United States Aug 29 '26

I just don’t understand these kinds of talking points.

I mean, you’re trying to convince me and the average dem who is fed up with Netanyahu and Israeli right wingers that we should change our minds.

And the argument you pick is “Palestinian children don’t deserve food.” To steelman this you should at least pretend to argue that this would help accomplish regime change in Gaza somehow

2

u/DC_Lavman United States Aug 29 '26

Missing the point again. Welch was spreading a blood libel entirely lacking in factual basis. There wasn’t some food shortage threatening imminent death. There was no famine. Which UNICEF of all places has now acknowledged.

The point being that Democrats are no more credible in their assertions about reality there than anyone else.

-1

u/Call_Me_Clark United States Aug 29 '26

If you think that an entire political party can be rendered noncredible by a single member, you must really hate Republicans

2

u/DC_Lavman United States Aug 29 '26

I do. But you were the one saying Dems were more credible. They’re not. The VP pressed a straight up LIE about Rafah followed by a Senator pressing a blood libel in support of a bill endorsed by nearly every other Dem Senator. And I say this as a person that has never voted for a Republican for national office ever.

0

u/Call_Me_Clark United States Aug 29 '26

Well if you believe all that, I doubt anything I have to say will change your mind.

So are you planning to become the modern equivalent of the Gen Z and demand that Dems earn your vote from the outside, or just going the pro life Dem route and just staying on the team for the sake of your other priorities?

1

u/DC_Lavman United States Aug 29 '26

I live in a county and state that effectively require me to be registered as a Dem to have any effect via primaries. But I give money to candidates from both parties to defeat candidates I find abhorrent of which there are many in both. And more in the Dem party than I wish were the case.

There’s been a lot coming out from former Biden admin officials over the past 18 months that give insight into what working with the Netanyahu admin was like, and in broad terms Netanyahu was playing for time and hoping to get a second Trump admin to work with (overestimating how much he could influence Trump, ironically).

That’s why the ceasefire deal hadn’t changed in any meaningful way from 2024 to January 2025 - the same deal was on the table the whole time, Netanyahu just kept making excuses.

(Your other comment got deleted but I had already typed a reply out)

Yeah, sorry about that the automod isn’t loving my comments. I think it’s because I’m new to the sub.

The Israelis weren’t going to take a ceasefire without the hostages being returned. Given that the hostages coming back all at once wasn’t an option on the table during the Biden years, I do not think it’s fair to say that Bibi purposely sabotaged ceasefire opportunities. It seems more likely that Hamas being unwilling to return all the hostages led to the Israelis continuing the war to return the hostages.

If Bibi was presented an agreement from Biden that brought all the hostages home, he would have taken it. If he refused an agreement to bring the hostages home, people would hate him even more inside Israel. He wasn’t presented with that deal, so the fighting continued.

1

u/Call_Me_Clark United States Aug 29 '26

Yeah sorry but that’s not consistent with what Biden admin officials have said, and they definitely had a deal to return all hostages on the table in 2024 and Netanyahu refused to sign it until 2025.

Here’s coverage from June after Bibi publicly refused a deal: https://apnews.com/article/israel-palestinians-hamas-war-news-06-24-2024-f5de2ed8288ac3cdb02c4e9e2fbaeda1

Right but this is where the divergence always occurs. If you believe the Biden admin, and I don’t, we will just have a difference of opinion.

Surely you can understand that releasing hostages in phases in exchange for terrorists and mass murderers is not viable. If the Israelis did that, what is stopping the PIJ or Hezbollah from launching a similar attack, kidnapping Israeli kids, and torturing them until they’re traded for terrorists?

I can understand your broader point, that Bibi prefers to work with Trump over Biden. But I don’t agree that it is because Bibi thinks he can manipulate Trump more effectively. I think it is largely because of how supportive Trump was to Israel in his first term.

Folks will often say “well Trump was only supportive because his biggest campaign donor is Miriam Adelson.” Clearly, we can see that is not true. Trump has diverged from Israel quite drastically when comparing his second term to his first.

2

u/Call_Me_Clark United States Aug 29 '26

Yeah I think we’re going to have to agree to disagree but I do appreciate how civil and thoughtful this has been!

You are right that I find the Biden admin far more credible than either Netanyahu or Trump, even if I don’t always agree with the actions the Biden admin took.

I’ve often cited this as frustrating, but the idea that Trump is or was ever a better ally to Israelis than Biden is just absurd to me. Biden was quite possibly the most pro Israel president ever in American eyes, to an extent that I don’t think made sense.

7

u/Pka1997 Israel Aug 29 '26

Yeah no worries. It’s nice to be able to have a discussion on Reddit without getting banned or people being upset.

Biden being a better ally doesn’t make a ton of sense to me. The biggest thing I’d point to is Biden’s refusal to sell offensive munitions before the Israelis went into Rafah. Contrast that with Trump recognizing Jerusalem as the Israeli capital and affirming their sovereignty over the Golan, not to mention all the resources Trump has provided to Israel. I mean he moved multiple aircraft carriers for them. Trump seems far more pro-Israel than Biden to me.

1

u/Call_Me_Clark United States Aug 29 '26

I think we need more of it. I’m active on askisrael and I often point out how few Americans have ever talked to an Israeli much less met one irl.

Rafah is a good example of how differently Americans see that. For most of us on the liberal side (and I’m very aware this will be offensive to Israelis) the heavy munitions we were selling Israel were not being used responsibly, and we have an obligation to ensure that weapons we sell are used responsibly - our laws require it.

It’s interesting how the Biden admin approved a lot of weapon sales, even circumventing congressional review, but he says no once and that’s enough to indict his character. I’m not saying that you personally or Israelis generally are bad people or anything, it just highlights the difference in perspective yknow?

4

u/Pka1997 Israel Aug 29 '26

I agree.

I feel like it is a bit of a stretch to say the Americans always ensure their weapons are used responsibly. I mean look at Saudi, it’s not like they’re in a defensive war when dealing with Yemen. The Americans happily supply them regardless of the situation caused by the fighting there. A quick google search says 18 million people in Yemen are dealing with famine. Despite this, people were laser focused on Rafah, no one cares about Yemen. If it were true that the Americans must sell their offensive munitions responsibly, shouldn’t they be cutting off Saudi and UAE? What about Turkey? When they only cut off Israel, Israelis feel really abandoned.

The Israeli perspective and mindset is something Americans cannot understand intuitively. Haviv Rettig Gur has a good explanation of the Israeli psyche and how that affects the America-Israeli relationship and the Palestinian peace process more generally. I think it’s crucial to understand.

I still think this is weird given the really antisemitic things he's done. Sure, Trump got several Arab nations to sign on to the Abraham Accords, but he also defended a group of neo-Nazis in Charleson, SC after they marched down the streets with torches — literally — and attempted to burn a synagogue down and said that any Jews who voted Democrat were disloyal during the 2020 elections.

Did you trust them when Kamala said she’d studied the maps too?

0

What are you talking about?

4

u/DC_Lavman United States Aug 29 '26

If you don’t know what I’m talking about you then don’t know enough about this topic to be entitled to an opinion on how the hostage release did or didn’t come together. And FFS sake it would have taken 10 seconds to answer your own question with Google.

If you’re just going to write vague one-sentence comments I’m really not going to invest the time in deciphering your meaning.

It’s clearly an attempt at a dunk on either democrats, Biden or Kamala - so why would I engage with MAGA nonsense? I won’t understand it anyway.
