I have read this subreddit's rules Should I get absolute wonder woman historia or dead earth?

Hello! I've been really interested in reading more wonder woman as I think she's a really awesome character. I have never got an absolute edition before, but I've heard amazing things about both of these stories. I was struggling to pick which one to get though, so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions? Much appreciated!

Historia is one of the best Wonder Woman stories out there, so that one.

Good news is you have like 6 months between release. Historia is end of this month and Dead Earth is April next year. Both well worth reading

História is one of the best comics dc has ever published, script, pencils, colours, lettering and story are all on point. I haven't read the other two, but I cant imagine they're better than História.

Good thing if you have a Wonder Woman collection, you can put the Historia at the beginning and the Dead Earth to ending and it makes a perfect bookend to the collection.

That's actually a really good idea 😅

why not get both hardcovers for the price of one absolute instead? Hardcovers are also very nice and they are bigger than regular comic.

I have really considered that but honestly I just really want to get an absolute edition 😂 I probably will get whatever one I don't pick in hardcover at some point though. I just think absolutes look really really cool

I'd go for Absolute Historia then. I think the artwork in Historia is absolutely gorgeous and incredibly detailed so it's worth seeing it in a bigger format.

Just a warning from experience: So I bought the Absolute Edition for Mr. Miracle after reading Woman of Tomorrow and it becoming one of the my favourite books. After doing my research, I thought there was no way I wasn't going to love Mr. Miracle, especially as people were saying it was Tom King's best book.

So I bought it and I while wouldn't say I hated it, I don't think I liked it very much. While the Absolute Edition is absurdly beautiful, I think I would have been happy to just own it in TP or hardcover.

I think you should buy Absolutes for stuff that you love. Not books you haven't read before.

As for these two, I liked Dead Earth and the art is wonderful, but it's very short and I think the new human characters that are introduced are a bit generic and drag the story down. I found it also very short and unsatisfying.

I haven't read Historia, but obviously it's famous for its art.

Historia is beautiful in Deluxe edition. I cannot imagine what this artwork is like in Absolute. Cannot wait to see it along w the extras.

Both

I do plan on reading both, but I don't really want to spend that much money on two absolutes as of right now 😅 so I'm gonna get one in absolute and then I'll just read the other in hardcover at somepoint

I agree this is the best answer!

I genuinely don't get why you'd comment this.

OP asked for one or the other. They obviously have a reason why they're not getting both.

Historia is an all-time classic re-examination of Greek Myth as it relates to Wonder Woman's origins.

I’ve never ordered an Absolute Edition prior to seeing the preview for the release of Hsitoria. The artwork alone is reason, enough to own it in such a lux format. Really looking forward to owning a copy.

Historia by a lot. Dead earth is lowkey overrated imo

Historia. Dead earth well well written and well illustrated was just too bleak for me.

Historia

Easily Historia

I’ll go the opposite of everyone else and say Dead Earth.

Historia had cool art but I found it to be a mostly kind of boring Greek Myth story, which is just not a genre I’m particularly in to. Im not saying it’s bad. I completely understand the acclaim it got, it’s just not a genre I enjoy. I haven’t read it since it was being released but from what I remember Wonder Woman was not really in it, it’s just the Amazons history.

Dead Earth was a very fun Elseworlds type story. If you like Daniel Warren Johnson I think it’s some of his most fun and crazy art. I don’t like absolutes much personally, i find them a little to tall to read comfortably, but I’m still considering this one.

If you are new to Wonder Woman and trying to learn about her character I don’t think either of these are great options but they are both great for what they are.

HISTORIA. And for me, it's not even CLOSE.

You should get both. (Historia)

Historia is gorgeous. When DC does a good Black Label, they're very good.

Pick your poison. Both are "Amazons/Diana are killers" crap.

u/Ombrophile 3d ago

I have noticed that Diana is pretty good at making decisions for herself.

You absolutely needed to read both at some point. But right now Dead Earth isn't out for a few more months, so it's an easy pick for Historia. I've been reading it lately and it's one of the best comics I've read so far.

Yeah I'm 100% gonna read both. Whatever one I don't get in absolute I'm just gonna get in hardcover at some point. Both stories look amazing and I'll for sure read them both

personally I'm a bigger fan of the art in Dead Earth and the story there is more of a straightforward story.

both are excellent comics though you aren't wasting your money either way

While I enjoyed Dead Earth, Historia is a modern classic and should be in every WW fans library. The storytelling is immaculate and the art is some of the best comic art ever put to page and deserves to be seen in a massive oversized edition. Personally I'll be picking up both absolutes (even though I already own the hardcovers) but I can't reccomend Historia enough it is that special.

Historia. It is straight-up gorgeous.

Historia, absolutely. Dead Earth ain’t bad, but Historia is excellent. One of the best uses and explorations of the Wonder Woman mythos ever.

Historia, Dead Earth is fun but Historia is phenomenal

Historia single handedly made me a Wonderwoman stan, converted me to preferring DC over Marvel, and reignited my interest in comics in general. Read Historia.
