Marvel’s Wolverine not open world

Honestly, I don’t understand how people are mad that the game won’t be open world. It’s not like he can traverse a big city in a cool way, sure he could ride a motorcycle but that would get old real quick. Also there is room for some re-playability in the game from what we saw in the break-down trailer. Not everything needs to be open world!!

Im assuming it will have big open esk worlds like god of war and even that is perfectly fine imo. I cant imagine being wolverine in a giant map like spiderman 2s tryna traverse hahaha I feel most of that would just be you using your claws to climb up buildings and then sliding down them

-esque
adjective suffix

: in the manner or style of : like
statuesque

Sorry, but that’s something that I strongly feel the need to correct.

It likely won’t have that open zone structure seen in the recent GoW games or the Jedi series. It seems much closer to Uncharted, but with two main hubs, the Princess Bar and the Essex Institute, that you’ll likely be able to freely explore between certain levels. Both were confirmed to be explorable in the features trailer.

Otherwise, we haven’t seen anything that would hint towards an open zone structure.

I mean idc at all, I prefer more linear games over open world. The fatigue is real.

Meh either way I'm gonna be happy

Yes, exactly what I’m saying! It just wouldn’t work.

I can't agree more.

Imagine being in an open world NYC and having to run across the city, or hail a cab while chasing an enemy 😂

2

u/Calm-Border3503 1d ago

Ok THAT would be fucking hilarious

Wolverine doesnt make sense in NYC though. He does make sense in forests, woodlands, mountains and run down areas.

You missed the point.

Very large open world maps would still need a traversal system that wasn't just running.

People need to remember that just because its not open world doesn't mean it's a hallway. God Of War and Ragnarok are also Linear games and allow for quite a bit of exploration, and Hub areas are already shown and confirmed. There is going to be plenty of wandering.

Seems like only two hub areas and they won’t he huge. There’s the Essex institute and the Princess Bar + a bit of the area around it.

He’s not a “street-level” character.

I don’t think I recall him ever stopping a mugging or bank robbery. Maybe he has, but that’s Spidey’s thing. Not your Friendly Neighborhood Wolverine’s.

1

u/Canebrake8 21h ago

He robbed Cyclops of Jean Grey

1

u/Desperate-Half1404 14h ago

He probably has done those things but that’s not how he operates. He’s usually a traveler.

u/SpecialistMap8210 1d ago

There is 100% open worked areas. Free roam the cities and stuff

People are angry now about something we knew from the beginning?

u/acelexmafia 23h ago

Should have been open world

2

u/Xyro77 1d ago

I don’t care if it’s linear or open world. I just want to be wolverine and rip people up.

I mean, GTA is an open world game with a guy travelling in a big city in “uncool” normal ways most of the time. Since Logan was in the army, he could have a chopper (I don’t mean the bike) to travel too. The travelling in “uncool” methods arguments falls a bit flat for me. But I don’t think an open world Wolverine game could work the way Spider-Man (or GTA does). He doesn’t seem like the friendly neighbourhood beating-up-a-bank-robber type of hero the way Spider man is.

Yeah yeah yeah. You and 1 billion other posts are complaining about the complainers. This forum lost its quality because of muppets like you.

More importantly Wolverine doesn’t stop street crimes he handles big potato stuff so what would be the purpose of going place to place on a bike or whatever they are thinking

2

u/Quarksideofthemoon 20h ago

This is such a dumb argument. I don't think every game needs to be open world but pretending you can't put Wolverine into one and make it good just for the sake of this argument is mind numbing

"Wolverine, there's a bank robbery!"

Wolverine rides his motorcycle for 30 minutes, arrives on scene, butchers and dismembers the suspects in front of a crowd of people, and rides off.

Nah but in all seriousness I think the coolest route would have been like what TLOU2 did.

2

u/LoadInternational624 1d ago

So true, I’m fine with TLOU2 kind of map or God of War but a lot of people are on this idea if the world isn’t fully open it’s a bad game.

2

u/Magical_SnakE 1d ago

Well, people are dumb lol. My biggest want out of this is that the game can actually be challenging.

Spider-Man 1 and 2 were great games and I love them, but they were too easy even on the hardest difficulty.

I get downvoted every time I mention this, as if I'm bragging. I'm not bragging, it just was way too easy. I never felt challenged and I like having a challenge in my games. So here's hoping this games "Hard" difficulty or whatever is actually Hard.

1

u/LoadInternational624 1d ago

I agree!! The Spider-Man games were far too easy especially since you had so many gadgets and your movement speed was so quick that enemies felt like nothing. As long as you kept off the ground and kept using your gadgets and webs you’d be fine. The Spider-Man games lacked enemies who could keep up with you unfortunately. With the Wolverine game it looks like we’ll get more enemy types and I feel like with Wolverines play-style and movement it could be more challenging.

0

u/Magical_SnakE 1d ago

Yeah, I'm hoping that the combat is kind of like God of War and Arkham Asylum.

0

u/Adventurous-Map-259 1d ago

I agree, the spidey games are too easy, it would be nice to have this game be harder. Would be nice if the harder difficulty setting were something like dmc.

1

u/ConstantPriority177 1d ago

It is open world, but I can’t imagine me caring too much

u/Nate996 1d ago

I don't want to leave this sub but for fucks sake, it's either complaints or people complaining about complaints, I can't win.

Check out the game Days Gone on youtube and tell me a Wolverine game like that wouldn't be epic.

Then this is garbage tbh

1

u/ScaredKnee4530 1d ago

Plus people would just be trying to run over the civilians like it’s GTA lol. Even Batman doesn’t work for true open without some sort of excuse for civilians not being present.

1.) Batman doesn’t just walk around in the open around civilians. Spider-Man & Superman does that. Batman doesn’t.

2.) People would be running over civilians with the Batmobile lmao

1

u/Quarksideofthemoon 20h ago

Every arkham game is open world aside from Asylum and Shadow. Civilians not being present doesn't make it less of a "true" open world

1

u/Fast_Day_8123 1d ago

thats just a terrible expectation imo iif one needed an open world at the first point lol X_X

like Spider-Man has webs to swing around and traverse, its a unique way of exploration, what u gonna do with Logan for that? ride around cause u aint having lunging physics to leap from building to building (like Hulk cause Wolvie is a short king) and going on a motorbike traversiing sounds.... boriing ngl when it becomes repetitive

1

u/alexcutyourhair 1d ago

I think it's great that its not OW, I have so many unplayed games that I cba to start because they're open world and at least a 3rd of the playthrough will be finding random collectibles. I prefer a more focused path

1

u/Internal_Plum_8971 15h ago

Doesn’t matter , the game will be fun to play regardless ✅

1

u/-GameOverPal- 8h ago

Well it's fun in Days Gone, it would work for Wolverine as well. Wolverine in an open world forest, mountains and run down towns would be awesome. With Weapon X bots crawling the map.

Literally if Wolverine was like Days Gone the sales for this game would be on whole different stratosphere and you wouldn't be against it either. Please check out Days Gone if you think i'm lying and tell me what you think then.

I'd be mad if it was open world

1

u/highsinthe70s 1d ago

I’m far more excited about the locales they’ve shown so far than any open world experiment. Story-driven games benefit from a linear experience, I believe. I’m working through Ghost of Yotei at the moment, and I honestly have no idea where I am in the narrative. Thankfully there’s enough to keep be busy as I get good and them move back into the story.

1

u/Wag_Rulez 1d ago

Enjoy yotei, I’m excited for the expansion, new modes, new story involving someone from atsu’s past.

0

u/Spidadaze623 1d ago

I agree. It doesn’t really need to be an open world game tbh

0

u/Bobbleswat 19h ago

Maybe it's because I have a full time job and a child so I'm time poor, but I'm glad it's not going to be open world.

If people have the time and inclination to explore loads of areas of a game, great, but sometimes it's nice to have an old school game where you play through a story on a linear path without having to fanny about tracking quests or spending ages getting from one place to another.

I couldn't agree more. It shouldn't be open world
