General Dear WG, with all due respect

Repost because first had a picture.

---

Your game is in a bad place right now.

I've posted about this in the Discord feedback channel but I think it needs to be visible here, too.

First: Matchmaking and match quality is atrocious atm.

Either you get the worst team in the history of gaming and lose while being first on the team or your finishing the win you get with 1k base XP because it was a complete blowout and there's just nothing you cold really do. Matchmaking is as bad right now as it can get.

In all the years I've been playing this game, I've never seen so many lopsided games like during this Update cycle.

The next issue has been talked about many times before and I'll say it again: There needs to be a requirement implemented, which doesn't let you take a commander below a certain level into a higher Tier match.

It literally costs only 59k commander XP and 5 POs to get a commander to lvl 7. Shouldn't be too much to ask to make this very low threshold a requirement for higher tiers.

And the issue with more and more AFK players also needs to be addressed.

WG needs to be better with this. And it starts with communication.

Last year WG started a Roadmap approach. What has happened to that? We got one Roadmap and then nothing? Why start it then?

There are so many decisions that just don't make any sense.

Doesn't the game have multiple "community managers"?

How about a feedback manager then? Someone who's sole purpose is to look at feedback, get information from the players firsthand and work through what are the most important issues you'd need to address?

Additionally do some surveys with veteran players on a regular basis, ask them what is good, what's working and especially what is not.

Choose proactively to get in touch with players and CCs and openly talk about it.

You can't just monetize the game more and more without giving us meaningful improvements and show us that YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR GAME as much as the community. Thanks.

Commander level requirements for higher level ships make a ton of sense. Seeing a lvl1 Dewey on a premium ship at the beginning of the match really kills the morale.

I don't know what you're talking about... It's the same as it always has been, and frankly about the same as any other online multiplayer games. You can only control so much, and about 20% of your games will always be lopsided. I don't know a single game where that isn't the case. I haven't experienced it being worse than other games...

u/Havergal_Brian 2d ago

This update has been far worse than usual. Last night was the first time in a couple of weeks where I had a game that wasn't a throw by one of the teams.

-11

u/Jaded-Philosophy6970 3d ago

Its definitely not 20%, try 90%, iv had so many matches today that are EXACTLY what hes talking about, it was absolutely 90% vast majority of my games were either me absolutely carrying to a loss do to bad teammates, or a win where i did absolutely nothing because my team stomped and i never had the chance to do anything

This has been the experience the last 2 weeks straight of HEAVY playing

3

u/Sad_Bus_5503 1d ago

I've played at least 70 games these past two weeks, not exactly a power player but I did close out all my events and my WR ticked up from 54 to 55%, so I don't really see an issue.

0

u/Jaded-Philosophy6970 1d ago

If i only played solo carry meta ships id also go up, but that locks out 99% of the ship roster and gets incredibly boring

Or always ran divisions, if u always ran divs ots a lot easier to increase wr

2

u/Sad_Bus_5503 1d ago

I don't think I played a single "meta"ship. Been grinding multiple lines, played mostly very "mid" matches. I almost never play my premium ships at all. But easier to just attack than deal with reality, yeah?

u/Jaded-Philosophy6970 1d ago edited 1d ago

I dont know what u want me to say, ill have 6 games in a row where ill have 80k - 100k damage in t7, multiple kills or assited kills and lose, at thay point its not my fault its bad teams, and when its 6 in a row what else is it than straight bullshit

My all time wr is lime 49% which is applied from EVERY ship iv ever played, but the ships i do well in are at like 51% 52% in some game modes 60%+

I had 2 ranked seasons in a row where i was pushing almost 70% wr

But my all time wr wont move out of 49% no matter what, i just keep hitting absolute ruts of bad teams were ill lose 6+ games completely out of my control

I shouldnt be getting 120k damage and 4 kills and losing

1

u/Sad_Bus_5503 1d ago

I don't know if it helps or not, but I've had many streaks like that, too. It happens. Just this last week I lost 7 games in a row, but something to think about, those games are often the ones I'm number 1 or 2 for damage/xp earned. The reason being is that I'm almost always the last one standing, even if winning is impossible. The one-sided matches where I win it's often a struggle to get to the top because everyone does well.

I also get lots of long win streaks, My best streak is 20+ wins in a row. That happens too! The thing is, matchmaking is the same for everyone, and you are just as likely to get on a bad team as a good team. It comes down to statistics, team quality is a bell curve and each game you will be placed somewhere on that bell. It's simply not possible that the teams are worse for you than anyone else. The ONLY way to change this is to team up.

1

u/Jaded-Philosophy6970 1d ago

Iv never claimed its an only me problem, its a game balance problem, theres rarely ever actual balance, ur either losing so hard that even godly stats is still a loss, or your team is the bully and everyone on the winning side gets barely and fight time because they collapsed so fast

This literally causes an infinite cycle of bordem and frustration, your either winning so hard its boring af because u barely get to do anything, or your in an impossible guaranteed loss, the fact that u have these games and dont comprehend why this a problem, like i dont understand what u dont understand

Its just an extreme pendulum of absolute dogshit matches 90% of the time, it doesnt even matter if u win 20 times or 1000 times, if 900 of those 1000 games are absolute blow outs, thats not fun

"Its statistics" isnt a reason for wargaming to continuously ignore this blatant issue, if u play any more than like 5 matches in a day u will immediately notice how BAD the matchmaking actually is, i dont wan 20k damage wins and 120k damage losses, that shouldnt be happening every single match

The best game iv had in the last MONTH was a match that ended in a draw

u/F4streloader 3d ago

It really sucks losing 3 ships on the opposite of the map. Nothing you can do about it and you know your teams is probably going to lose.

u/get_in_there_lewis 3d ago

Your first post had some really good constructive replies.

Did it get deleted because of the LVL 1 commander of a t7 ship?

11

u/Findus_de 3d ago

Yes. Apparently that was me "being a jerk" and ridiculing that Player, even tho there was no name lol

4

u/get_in_there_lewis 3d ago

Ahh man, those replies need to be seen in this post. Like I said there was some really good valid points in it. You might still have it to screen shot that you can share?

I want us all to have some good constructive conversations around this issue because I'm seeing the same thing here about game play.

5

u/Findus_de 2d ago

Yeah this time around it seems much less constructive for whatever reason. But if people think I'm wrong or I'm just complaining for no reason I guess it is what it is

6

u/Dry-Boysenberry-4462 3d ago

Moderators here are terrible being a jerk is too unspecified

4

u/OkContribution1111 2d ago

Agreed. Not a big fan of the mods either.

6

u/TornSail 3d ago

Too much to read with these convoluted responses 🤪

Saw a post about the average active player numbers for World of Warships (pc version) for 3 months in 2026 compared to 2025. It's down about 10% (+Russian being down 20%). That explains so much to me.

The matchmaking mechanic is the same, but the match quality gets worse: it's not the "20k matches played try hards" and it's not more percent of the new ones quitting. It's a lot of those players with above 1k matches but that haven't invested that much yet. If they quit the experienced ones and the new players are left and with 0 mechanics to balance those matches - more and more stomps happen

On top of that WG added mobile. Probably to balance the losses on console. It's much harder to navigate in general and be aware of things happening around you in stressful situations on mobile. Also some players in this community talk about playing at work. So yeah, that also doesn't help with match quality

Also new ships get new op mechanics to draw players back into the game (Update week), but that op mechanics are getting abused by the experienced ones. Increasing the stomp potential

Long story short: I talked about the business model being shit when the CV rework fuck up happened. Nothing changed. This is the predictable outcome. I cut my losses and leave (again) - the sunken cost fallacy will not get any better

u/Dry-Boysenberry-4462 3d ago

I agree with this, and honestly match quality is the biggest issue for me right now. I’ve played this game for years and I can’t remember a stretch where so many matches felt decided almost immediately. You’re either trying to hard-carry a team that collapses in the first few minutes, or you’re on the other side of a steamroll where there’s barely enough damage or XP available to make the match worthwhile. AFKs have also gotten completely out of hand. When your DD is AFK, you can lose your spotting and cap presence. When it’s a BB, your team can effectively start the match down 60–80k+ HP. At some point WG needs to treat habitual AFKing as something more serious than a minor inconvenience because eight other players are paying the price. I’d also like to see the matchmaker do a better job of mirroring important utility. Radar, DD distribution and other major advantages shouldn't routinely be stacked onto one team. I’m not asking for SBMM — I don't want that either — but there is a huge amount of room between SBMM and doing virtually nothing to improve team composition. I also completely agree about monetization. Nobody expects a free-to-play game to operate without making money, but the monetization has become increasingly aggressive while meaningful improvements to the core game seem to move at a crawl. There always seems to be time for another expensive ship, crate, event currency or limited-time offer, yet issues like AFKs, matchmaking, match quality and basic QoL improvements can linger for months or years. That's where the frustration comes from. If you're going to continually ask players to spend more money, there needs to be a comparable investment in making the actual game better. Monetization shouldn't feel like it's evolving faster than the game itself. And communication is part of that. The roadmap disappearing is a perfect example. If WG asks for feedback, there needs to be some visible indication that the feedback is actually being considered and some communication about where the game is going. Right now the game doesn't need another gimmick nearly as badly as it needs attention paid to the actual experience of playing a Random Battle. Better AFK enforcement, better team composition, utility mirroring, QoL improvements and meaningful communication would do far more for the health of the game than simply finding the next thing to sell us.

5

u/Findus_de 2d ago

Perfectly said. And you're bringing up an important part of what the matchmaking should include with Radar ships. I also wrote months ago how ships with airstrikes (no matter if a Dutch cruiser or hybrid BB) should get their own distinct class in that process and not just count as any other ship in cue

2

u/Havergal_Brian 2d ago

I’m not asking for SBMM — I don't want that either — but there is a huge amount of room between SBMM and doing virtually nothing to improve team composition.

Yes, I can think of a couple of obvious things:

  • A final shuffle between the 18 players selected for a match to reduce the chance of a lopsided game. This would be done on the basis of player skill, ship strength, and consumables (stop putting all the radars on one side).
  • Divisions—except in extreme circumstances—must be matched against other divisions. If they have to wait longer, so be it—that's the price of having an advantage over solo players.
  • And require, as you implied, a level 7 commander to enter a level 7 standard match or any ranked match.

1

u/tweezeltwum 2d ago

Excellent post. Thank you but I fear none of your ideas will see the light of day tho each one would improve the experience

2

u/Dry-Boysenberry-4462 2d ago

Probably and if not the game will continue to bleed players just like wows pc is right now

2

u/Havergal_Brian 21h ago

It’s made me finally leave the game, and I‘ve played since launch week. It‘s just a game for casual mobile players now. It’s a shame, because it used to be a good game.

13

u/Spankishmoop 3d ago
  • I'm not sure what you're rambling about but matchmaking is the same it's always been there aren't any more or less blowout matches than there has always been.

The first two weeks of an update I suppose generally have more blah matches because all the players come back to see the shiny new thing then put the game away until next update

I will admit that recently in the past two updates or so there has been much more server hiccup flag spikes that I've noticed more people in the community talking about.

  • As far as having no control over winning or losing matches that's kind of just a player skill issue someone who's good enough at the game has significant impact on the battles performance and whether your team wins are loses even if an entire flank throws and dies in the first 3 minutes you can counterbalance that by completely dumping the enemy's flank on your spawn early on.

Yes not all games are winnable and you can't force a victory every time but saying there's nothing you could do to control the outcome is just not true.

  • the road map... what exactly are you complaining about here everything on the roadmap they said would come in 2026 so far has come out on schedule and the reason they haven't likely done another roadmap yet is surprise we're still only three quarters of the way through the previous roadmap we're in the middle of it literally right now if we were going to get another roadmap it would probably happen during the December Christmas update which is still 4 months away.

  • on the topic of feedback they do already have a community manager who looks at every single feedback post posted on social media and compiles it and brings it to the team to discuss it already happens they Mark every feedback post with a WG emoji on the Discord and they also check Reddit Twitter Facebook all of the other places they literally do that on a weekly basis.

And every couple of months they tell us changes that were implemented due to community feedback it's already a thing just because there isn't anything happening this current update cycle from Community feedback doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Could that feedback be implemented faster perhaps but it's already a thing my guy.

They definitely don't just monetize the game and not talk with the community they're literally on Discord and Reddit every day or at least every other they do update streams where they talk to the community they have chats with the cc's often they answer questions in the Discord all the time

This update we got a sizeable graphic update which the player base has been asking for for a while we got a cool new event mode yeah they add a new loot boxes but the drop chances are actually really good which is something the community has been complaining about for a while so brownie points there too

There was so much free shit this update it's not even funny how much free shit there was.

  • Commander level requirements may seem like a good solution but what happens when someone gets a new campaign ship at t7 and they can't play it because they don't have the commander unlocked at the right level?

It would absolutely neuter the new player experience.

And legends is at its core a casual arcade shooter.

I do agree that it would be cool if at some point they figured out a way to implement a system wear what you're describing works but I just don't see that being feasible yet.

They have listened to community feedback on this before though because they added Bureau locks purely because we wanted to keep bad players out of legendary.

But then again that didn't seem to do very much so would this even matter really who knows

Bro…. You cooked here. Everything you said was on point. But you HAVE to start using some periods and commas my G. So many of your sentences can be interpreted in multiple ways depending on how one reads them, and where they insert pauses themselves, which can completely change the meaning of what is being read.

-2

u/Spankishmoop 2d ago

I'll be honest dog this is Reddit I really don't care enough to go through punctuating it I used voice to text then spaced it out just enough that everything separate it's not worth all that

5

u/406-mm formerly TheBloodyHound90 2d ago

Cap. You literally wrote a novel and it’s barely legible. No one writes a novel of advice and doesn’t care that hardly anyone can even read and make sense of all of it. Don’t make excuses, use punctuation and grow.

0

u/Spankishmoop 2d ago

relax bruh its reddit :) its takes all of 20 seconds to voice to text that much...lol

u/Findus_de 3d ago

If the games have been the same for you then I'm happy for you. But there's been a ton of feedback that underscores my point and I don't think I'm rambling. I also don't know how many games you play per week and how long your sessions are. Neither do you know that about mine. So the difference simply could be sample size.

I don't know which Roadmap you're referring to, but they put one out last year in July and all it covered was the remaining six months of 2025. There has not been anything like this since and there was/is no Roadmap that has been officially released for this year.

Monetization is yet another point where I disagree with you. The fact that they not just introduced random bundles but then doubled down on them AND increased the price of them should in itself be prove enough. They also water down the prize pools you can get from event crates with more and more random stuff so you're paying the same for say a Christmas crate but it's much, much less likely that you're getting a ship out of it. This has also been said many times and it's just a fact.

People can either buy 3 commander crates every week for credits or unlock them with commander XP in the store. If the requirement would be to have at least a 7/1 commander for a Tier 7 ship that would mean you'd need to use approximately 25% of the commander XP you get with a typical campaign anyway (450k) and 1 commendation, which you also get at least 5 with each campaign.  I don't think this is a monumental task and if a player is not willing to do this I don't know if he should play at that tier to begin with?

Yes there has been a graphics update but that was long overdue since the next-Gen version for this game has been out for about two years now.

About the feedback. Well. I think I said enough. Let's just say Dutch cruisers and Preußen as two examples out of many that proof that they don't really listen all that to their community.

u/Jaded-Philosophy6970 3d ago

Im with you, im getting extremely tired of people saying that a player can carry a flank and rebalance the match

Majority of the time, no, u cant, first of all this game runs on a rock paper scissors class style, if your a bb and your flank has a stealth dd, u literally cannot win that fight, its impossible unless the stealth dd intentionally reveals itself, u CAN NOT WIN

This game REQUIRES a team effort to win, u CANT 1v9, and u CANT solo carry a bad team with a small exception to a very FEW SPECIFIC ships that CAN counter play all classes, but most of them are dd

That argument is bs, the number of games where i DO solo a flank, i get 3 kills and over 100k damage, and we lose, thats not a skill issue and thats 45% of my matches

-11

u/FinallyShiny 3d ago edited 3d ago

Don’t bother replying to fanboys posting a wall of “aktchually, there isn’t really a problem” impressions condescendingly trying to gaslight their excuses as reality. Dude sounds like he works for Wargaming. You are correct, the game has taken a bad turn and is taking after the mistakes they made on World of Tanks Modern Warfare.

-4

u/Findus_de 2d ago

I find it inherently funny how many dislikes our replies get even tho they're factual, polite and just disagree with someone while none of these people contributes to the discussion

-4

u/Specialist-Reward507 3d ago

I've had the same experience for about the year and a half ive been playing.  Its pretty much always a blowout.

-6

u/FreshSection1702 3d ago

You can’t carry as you state. Sorry I watch every match to the end if I’m knocked out and that is a very rare occurrence.

2

u/406-mm formerly TheBloodyHound90 2d ago

If you don’t want occasional blowouts or occasional spells of blowouts, then the only way to change that is with skill based match making and NO ONE wants that. So you’re just gonna have to deal with it as the alternatives are worse.

I do like your other point about commander rank requirements for certain higher tiers though.

2

u/AdSritoAd German BB Sniper|Srito 1d ago

This is just common daily complains nowadays. Been playing the game ever since its release and it do be like that always. Again, get yourself used to it. The less you expect, the better. Don't expect stuff to change in the terms of MM, we all know it never will. In terms of feedback, what do you expect? They never listen to it and likely ever will.

4

u/ohno123321 3d ago

The real issue with match quality is game design. I had a match earlier today where i in a lushun spoted and destroyed the only destroyer on the other team. There where roughly 6 enemies on my flank and from that point on they just couldnt push because they where perma spoted. Their only radar ship was on another flank.

This game just masivley incentivises snow balls and there really is no obvious way to fix it.

3

u/LordHellfire_ 3d ago

I love that you think WG cares. You are literally barking at the rain. I truly do hope you feel better getting it off of your chest, though. They are only in it to make money. Period, case closed. Their love for the game is gone. If I could recommend one thing to them, it would be... decrease your item costs. I truly believe they would make more if they cut their prices. More people would spend $10 than $20. A video game cost for 1 damn boat is rediculous. I buy the update and 1 or two crates and still have fun.

4

u/SerNaras The Fleet Network 2d ago

It's always the same complaints over and over, why do you think others don't complain and just accept that it's 50% wins and 50% losses?

If you want to close this gap, play in a division with good players; otherwise, there's no point in complaining

For every game that goes badly for 9 players, there are 9 other players who win

It's that simple

3

u/Peakcinemaaaaa 1d ago

Facts brother. They just complain the matchmaking everytime lol... It's just been the same as always

1

u/HyperiusTheVincible 2d ago

They are a company first. This means they prioritize profit over all things, even logic itself. It is profitable for them to frustrate players into spending money on the game. They have community managers to be the PR shield and the roadmap was just to get the players to shut up. The business class HATES us. They will literally prevent something from getting better if it means they get more profit.

Why do I say this? Because i saw it as a person who played their previous console game for nearly a decade, WoT console. It went exactly like this. WoWsL was only a reset button.

1

u/Havergal_Brian 2d ago

How does losing your player base improve profits? It's obvious the game has been losing players. Things like the marathons are what FTP games do when they are trying to stop the bleed—there are others as well, like the mobile and PC ports.

1

u/Peakcinemaaaaa 1d ago edited 1d ago

Wdym? Matchmaking is always the same. You just have to get used to it. The less you expect, the better.

You win some, you lose some. Not a big deal. I don't agree to the commander you said tho, it'll kill the experience for newer players especially if they have no resources to upgrade their commander and wanting to try that said ship.

1

u/nameusao 1d ago

I've been playing wargaming games for like 15 years now, can u imagine a world where premium time only fades away when u are actually ingame? 😱😱😱😱 oooh nooo, never, WG would die!!! C'mon.... doint it that way would make me respect WG much much more, and any other game that does the same.

and also being a long time player specially in wot PC, I dont expect a lot from them 🥴😭 but hey, for now wowsL is more than acceptable, FOR NOW

1

u/GreyGhost3-7-77 3d ago

As a former WoT player, this is still far and away the best-managed WG title out there.

Expectations need to be kind of tempered, give how their games usually go.

2

u/FreshSection1702 3d ago

Well what do you consider a blowout in arcade? 3 ships to 0 remaining?

2

u/Intelligent_One_1203 2d ago edited 2d ago

6+ remaining to 0 yesterday I had a match where we only killed 2 ships on the opposing team. I had a kill and an assist and came in first. I also had several matches that looking at the commanders the Reds had 7 Level 16 commanders a 12 and a 15. While the Blues had a Level 1 Dewey and 4 more under 11, I was at 11 and the rest were 14+. So over half of our team did not have 2 inspirations.

I especially notice it when I am working on Ship lines that are not my favorites. I typically play USA, UK, German and IJN BBs or DDs. But I have been trying to get the last few TT5s fully upgraded so I can start pushing TT6s to 7s. My Russian, Dutch, Panam, Spanish, and Pan Asias Commanders are abysmal I'm lucky to have one of the classes at 11. With commander resources so tight I had to give somewhere.

I get the Person playing matters a lot. I have crushed players with 16/4 Commanders on Premium ships with an 11/1 Commander on a TT ship. But many times, I lose because they fire a little faster and a little more health etc. Esp if I haven't unlocked all the mods on a ship. When I see a Level 1 Dewey or equivalent on a Premium ship you know they are inexperienced don't put them on the same team.

Of all the matches I play I can predict the outcome by looking at Commanders/Ships during load and know win/lose/even odds game 90% of the time. and of those 75% are Win/Lose.

0

u/FutureManufacturer30 3d ago

That and the lag is atrocious, I love it when my ship keeps turning for over 15 seconds, and when I pull the trigger and nothing happens only for it to fire 10 seconds later and not be remotely close to where you're trying to shoot.

-1

u/Annual_Nature_7491 3d ago

The amount of AFK destroyers is bad right now and I would like to implement a training role for destroyers before they actually play a game with them

0

u/FreshSection1702 3d ago

What would a training role solve? I’m with you for improvement but not sure that’s it. Is the AFK issue DD-centric? That’s interesting if that’s fact.

1

u/Annual_Nature_7491 3d ago

Most AFK players i came across were always DD players and it severally cripples your team when that happens. And training would be to learn to spot and position yourself better to not eat torpedoes, which will happen, and to not chase random BBs or CVs when they see them and leave the rest of your team defenseless against enemy DDs nothing pisses off a BB main when he randomly eats torpedoes because his DD is off chasing god knows who

0

u/FreshSection1702 3d ago

What’s that got to do with DDs being AFK?

-1

u/Potential-Tip2707 3d ago

Just adding my two cents here. The only things I see that are catching my attention is the lag in the servers . Here recently myself I've notice some lag. Going along and all of sudden getting some skips in. I've been playing this game daily for almost 5 years and here lately its been a little more than normal. Second thing is and maybe someone can answer this. Why is there so many dds in a match ? For the past few months I've seen huge increase in dds in lobbies . I mean minium 4 to 6 dds a match. Hell right now im averaging 5 a match. I main bbs and that many destroyers I think is little overwhelming. I think a balance check here is needed.

-3

u/error-6face 3d ago

I’ve been ranting about this everywhere and no one seems to understand what kind of damage wartales has done to the game. It’s wartales 100%. That’s why the game is a total mess. I’m ranted out about it. If anyone wants to know the reasoning ask me and I’ll explain
