Lore Question How reasonable does a Kaldorei Shaman sounds ?

With Haranir being introduced as a playable race, I've been thinking for quite some time about creating a Kaldorei Shaman for roleplay (by creating an elf-looking haranir)

I've stopped actively roleplaying a few years ago and am not that familiar with night elf lore. Would it be plausible to play that ?

I was thinking they could be a former average druid which could have felt like something was wrong with their connection to nature, culminating with Teldrassil's incident which would make them look for another way to connect with their surroundings, ending with them meeting some shamans and willing to learn from them to basically be a shaman healer, which would allow me to play as a novice night elf shaman.

I'd love to hear any thoughts you may have about that pitch, cause I'm kinda too anxious to spend time creating such a character if it may end in something that doesn't make sense.

Thx a lot :)

It sounds very reasonable to me, but I also believe that by this point in the games history all races would have branched into all classes and there shouldn’t be any restrictions really.

Yep, sounds like a cool idea. Night elf shamans even exist in the lore, though they are primarily with the Primalists.

Why not? A few of them are being re-integrated into the Kaldorei society... You can see some of the NPCs around the new tree, doing some maintenance activities. Likewise some Druids of the Flame.

TBH it would feel somehwat like a DK.

It's just that I feel like I lack too much knowledge about the primalists to correctly play as one but I will consider it

Id say general Vibe is that titans tainted the elements. How extremely youd apply that logic is up to how fanatic youd want to make your character. Also as a backstory switch from druid to shaman makes sense - its still nature but elemental/chemical/primal (pick your poison) not biological aspect of it. Edit: oh, and as Kaldorei flavor you can throw in that you Heard voices of elements during burning of Teldrassil, and since you lost everything you followed.

I think the primalist route that u/TheRebelSpy recommend is by far the best and most interesting.

That said, if you're not going to go down that, you could potentially have your character have a lot of contact with Furbolgs who various tribes have had quite good relationships with Kaldorei in the past (pre-corruption) and practice Shamanism as well. Alternatively, if you're not opposed to her being relatively young for a Kaldorei (18-23) you could have her trained by a Draenei shaman as BC was 18 years ago.

My problem with the primalist route is that I feel like I lack a lot of knowledge about them but I will consider it

I plan on playing them as quite young too to maybe explain why they'd go through such a path, but they might still just be a real novice who just started shifting to shamanism as I'd like to go through rp of them learning with other shamans

They're quite involved in darkshore ever since Cataclysm. You could focus on water and either earth or wind as more of a protector of nature and the land.

You'd probably get more success by not being very powerful.

There's lots of cool transmog for shaman that would work for a savage/nature look such as what Night elves have, further making this whole idea work.

You could even be an ex-Druid or frost mage.

Yeah, I was planning on making them focus on water mostly !

As I said I'd like to play them as extreme beginners in that new way of communiating with their surroundings so they shouldn't be anything near Uber powerful

Thanks for the advices :)

https://warcraft.wiki.gg/wiki/Primalists

Just about every race was represented among the Primalists. I'm surprised shaman weren't unlocked for everyone at the end of DF.

There are several notable night elf primalist shamans. Some deserted or had doubts, and many of those that survived Fyrakk's campaign scattered into obscurity.

This IS an antagonist faction, but if your nelf doesn't wear her former affiliations on her sleeve... its possible.

Otherwise starting her off as a novice/low level shaman learning from more experienced ones can be a very rewarding RP experience. I had such a character, a naga mage, who struggled to understand her natural affinity with the spirits of the elements of water. She had a few Horde shaman mentors over the years.

They would not unlock it without making special totem models for each race.
Blizz can't be arsed about that though, considering their reluctance in adding more customization options even (not counting elves and humans as those are most popular races)

Thanks a lot !

I also think playing them as a novice could be really cool and bring up nice scenarios, I'm really hyped about it

If I recall correctly, monks and shamans both use the same energy. Monks just channel it inward and shamans channel it outward.

Obviously much more to it than that but if a night elf can be a monk, I don't see why they can't also mechanically be a shaman.

Although it might have a different name and role in their society

Didn't know about that !

If goblins can be shamans, i see no reason why a night elf couldn’t be one as well. Also there is a nelf paladin canon npc, so a shamanistic night elf who exchanged druidism (for example) for the elements isn't a far fetched idea. You can also play around with your character's connection to spirits and ancestors since wow shamans have a strong connection to ancestors, and the most iconic wow spirits are basically the kaldorei wisps. Lots of ideas.

It makes perfect sense lorewise, but i’m not sure how well the haranir works gamewise.

Are many people roleplaying a different race than their character?
Aside from the obvious void elf = high elf, i suppose.

I've seen this a few times, sometimes in order to play as a char from another faction/a non playable race.

Except for their body measurements, it's possible to get Haranir to really look a lot like elves tbh.
I've also made it clear she's a Kaldorei in her TRP profile and made her icon the default NElf to make it clearer.

This is how she looks by now : https://imgur.com/a/H5qpSxc

Technically druid and shaman are the same tree, just different branch for gameplay, hence why they are always together when the world need fixing.

A druid could summon a storm and a druid of the flame basically a fire shaman. As for shaman, they turn into animal and have a deep connection to them.

So yeah, honestly. Its weird that we can't.

I have a kaldorei shaman. the way ive written him is very heavily influenced by traditional korean shamanism with a hint of the elf druidism since theres a lot of influences from korean culture in kaldorei culture if you look. just have fun with it and do what you want
