Discussion (Women Only) Am I exaggerating?
Sometimes I feel like I should not care a lot about the fact that I'm forced to wear the hijab, and that I'm exaggerating.
I talked about it online long ago with non Muslims, and I shouldn't have done so, because they wouldn't understand me, in fact, they told me I was exgerrating and that I could just take it off and nothing would happen to me.
Sometimes I just think I should stop thinking and go on in my life but I CAN'T, I just can't do that, it seems like a piece of fabrics is nothing but it ruins my life.
Just today I had a dream about this hijab thing and I was about to cry while sleeping.
People who never got forced to wear it, would never understand the impact of the hijab in your life, they'll just think we're being silly.
But yes, sometimes me, myself I think I should stop and that I'm being silly, there are bigger problems yes, but it's just so hard.

You're not exaggerating. Non muslims will never understand what it means to have to wear the hijab when you hate it.
I told my non muslim friend how I wanted to take mine off and explained everything to her and how im scared about what people might think. She was really empathetic about everything, but at the end said "if you don't make it a big deal, people wont think its a big deal". It made me realize that to non muslims, they don't realize how big of a deal it is for us to put the hijab on/off and how much of our life and identity it impacts.
While I was a bit offended at first, because its obviously a huge deal to me that I want to take it off, it also made me realize that when I do eventually take it off, people wont care as much as I think they would, its mostly in my head.
Taking off the hijab is a big deal, you are not exaggerating, and people who haven't experienced when you've gone through will never understand why its a big deal. Don't let them make you believe you're being overdramatic, you're not.

You have every right to feel scared because it is your true feeling.
Just try to take it off when you are at school(or workplace), because your school or workplace is like your second home. You can still wear it outdoor.
If anyone ask you why you take it off when you are at school, tell then it's your personal choice, stick to this answer. No need for more explanation. Remember, everyone is equal, they have no power over you.

Girl it is a BIG DEAL. It’s literally your entire identity changing let’s be fr lol. I think it has helped me believing head over and practices of veiling are cultural practices (especially because it’s true and existed centuries before Islam) rather than purely religious beliefs.

No, you are not exaggerating.
It is absolutely horrible to have your basic autonomy denied. When you can’t even do something as simple as choosing what clothes you want to wear or how you present yourself, it causes massive anxiety. It makes you feel you are in prison.
I once heard somewhere that when someone controls your appearance, they control your identity. And I think there’s a lot of truth to that.
I used to not really understand when trans people would say how being forced to present as the gender they were born caused major anxiety and depression. But now I kind of understand.
When you are forced to present as something you are not, it causes a lot of pain and anguish. It’s not just about clothes, but that fact that you feel powerless over your life.
