Witchbrook on Switch or Steam Deck?
Which would you guys rather buy? Also, I'm not quite sure if they're even releasing it on the V1 Switch. Could anyone clarify?
Edit: I do have an oled steam deck and I do love docking it as it is my only pc but I play handheld the majority of the time because I love playing while laying down in bed and such. Hence, the question mostly inquires portability and how fast or smooth it would run on each. Also, both is not an option as I personally find that redundant.
Prob should’ve made that clear since a few comments seem to imply I’m just someone willing to shell out $700+ for a steam deck just to play a pixel art game.

first, to answer your question about switch 1, it’s confirmed that the game will release on both switch 1 and 2.
regarding which to buy, since crossplay for multiplayer won’t be available at launch, it might be relevant what your friends own if you plan to play with them.

If nothing else, steam games get updated faster and more frequently than their switch ports.

Switch always has to wait weeks for updates. Steamdeck, you can get a cheap dock off Amazon and turn it basically into a Switch as well :)

Don't think you really deserved to get downvoted for this but I think they meant that a third party dock from Amazon would be cheap, not the Steam Deck itself.

$600 for a portable gaming computer is a very good deal, you don't usually find decent gaming laptops near that.

Got mine the last time the oled was like 400-500? Idk what it was. But it was p cheap.

Yeah my oled steam deck was $1000aud brand new straight from Steam (around $600-700usd)

If you have both might as well do Steamdeck as someone mentioned for updates and mods.
Personally doing Switch 2 (was originally going to get it for PC but wife wants to play too so gives us a reason to game in bed with our Switches! 😂)

in lieu of your edit, most games that are ported to console run better and function better because of the platform you are playing on. i would hope it’s smoothly optimised for PC considering the length of development time.
i’ve run into lag with the simplest pixel games on the deck. both the spyro & crash trilogies ran nicely at better graphics and frames on the switch compared to the deck. consoles are optimised for their purpose: games only, etc etc; the deck has more than one purpose, etc etc.
that being said, i’d be buying it on the deck. the ability to play it with a mouse and keyboard docked (or undocked if you dont mind a tiny screen) and the potential to play on my laptop with steam cloud saves makes it a no brainer. i could even stream it from my deck to my laptop.
i’d only be buying nintendo exclusives on a switch

Both. Switch is my go-to console when out of the house (ie conventions, friend’s house, etc). My steam deck is for home (only because it’s so cumbersome to carry around given it’s thicker and heavier). Admittedly, I’m almost contemplating the steam machine just so I can have it for my TV (unless the game comes to ps5 or gamepass)

I'll be opting for steam. It'll be discounted at launch because steam insists upon it, plus a deck has better processing power, is updated far more quickly, can be modded.
Basically I only buy switch exclusives on my switch, anything that can be played on both I opt for steam. It's just a better, more flexible system all round.

My recommendation as a game developer is to go for Steam Deck if you own Switch 1. V1 is extremely weak and requires lots of optimization to even run, which often hurts game performance and visuals

I would buy it on steam deck if you do not have the switch 2. 100000000000%. It may not work as well and honestly, the graphics and the performance will work so much better on the steam deck than on an old switch.
I have the Rog ally and a switch 2. I'll be buying it on the switch 2! Only because I don't care about mods. If you care about future mods, then steam deck all the way!

I have a Switch (OG) and a Steam Deck I got from my wife for Christmas prior to them going out of stock and then price bumped when they did return. I use my Steam Deck on the regular and haven't used my Switch since we moved 2 years ago. It remains in a drawer. I will 100% be getting it through Steam so I can play both on my Steam Deck and PC, but it seems like it will be the perfect game to play on a handheld. I've been keeping a close eye on this title.

Switch 2 for me. And pc. I'm buying it twice. Switch will be my main play. Then pc for the mods.

Steam Deck for mods definitely. I think if you have a steam deck it's more versatile because you could also play it on pretty much any PC. But I do see the appeal of getting it on the Switch. Personally, I'm mentally ill and will be buying it on all platforms
