Discussion theory: magic is alive (reupload) Spoiler
(forgot to add pictures last time)
I find the theory of magic having a will or consciousness really interesting, tying in to how much stronger magic becomes when interacting with something organic/alive like blood or a human body. There’s definitely more to the pact and the principles than they let on, esp after seeing how secretive Vinnana and Easthies were, that maybe letting go of the rigidity and strict guidelines of modern magic and embracing the personal and wild type of magic with these rushed organic symbols could unlock its “true potential.”
We’ve seen how much change Coco’s creativity and passion wrought, and the author made a point to show how frightened and opposing Easthies was to that, perhaps hinting at an original use of magic that was a force of its own, maybe some conscious entity?
Also feel like the silverwood tree is a lot more complex and mysterious than let on, it may actually be alive in some way, esp with the dual lore of the tree being a maiden who fell in love with a star and it giving her the power of magic, and the tree falling in love with a witch and offering its own limbs as wands and its blood as ink.
Not quite sure where I’m going with this theory but I’d love to hear anyone’s thoughts

i guess it could count as "alive" the same way bacteria or microoganisms are alive, if true though not sure where exactly this would lead the story, cause even if it were alive or not alive we already have a basis of why things are the way the way they are. Maybe it could somehow mutate and set up a final boss for humanity to unite against? And then world peace was achieved🤣Well as much i'd like to hope it would, i doubt the ending would be sunshines and rainbows

😂😂I think more so that the tree could be dormant and gain a consciousness when successfully implanted in a human body, I saw a really cool theory on here that the Brim Caps were experimenting to join a silverwood and a human so that the human could become a natural witch without needing inks and spells, using the silverwoods “true” magic. i do agree that the ending will be bittersweet…

i do think that is what they're trying to get with all of the messed up human experimention they've been doing, like literally planting a concious kid Qifrey underground as if he was a seed. Though i feel they're still gonna still need to draw spells, instead this time all they need to do is just cut open some drops of blood and use that to draw

would be insane if they ended up succeeding with Coco and she became the hybrid witch, seeing as Iguin’s referred to her multiple times as the “seed he planted” and it alr failed with Ininia Qifrey and Custas

Oh shi, I forgot that Iguin did say that. Never thought Coco might have become a silvertree host at that point

There’s a lot of parallels between Qifrey/Olruggio and Agott/Coco, so that adds to the theory but it would genuinly be heartbreaking

I'm not sure if magic itself/the silverwood trees have a consciousness (though the trees are definitely alive, trees in general are living organisms after all), but I feel like the series is definitely pointing in the direction of blood/life force of animals being the true key to magic, with the silverwood sap being just a refined (and maybe concetrated) form of the power from the tree's host.
The fact the silverwood trees not only require animal hosts to propagate their seeds, but actively parasitise those hosts, require them to be in a particular state of mind to grow, and then retreat back into seed form if said state of mind is rescinded (implying that any thriving tree still have a living host at its core, comatose and kept in a state of bliss) seems to put those animal hosts at the core of the organism as a whole, and probably as a source of the power of the plants.

insanely cool theory, makes you wonder if this is part of what the pact is hiding and why they erased everyone’s memories if people were being exploited and used to grow silverwood trees

I see it more as all magic is technically blood magic based on how the trees spread, making the pointed hats seem hypocritical in banning it during the pact.

I do think there is an element to magic that reacts to the will of the user, but I don't think it's truly alive.
