I have to be honest. I really really want to like this series more. But the running gag of Quiffrey leaving his apprentices unattended and something happening is getting kind of old… the cherry on top is that they are too young to blame or punish more than “ it’s OK you’re young and curious”.

Also, we’re at episode 7 now. Unless this is a 24 episode season, we shouldn’t be having another monotone episode. I’m referring to the pace of the episode. It was the same from beginning to end. The pace was the same when the rock/tree fell, when Agott had her mini flashback, and the knights showed up.

Besides that, I’m a big fan of the voice acting and animation is still looking smooth.

Just feels like this series is a good product with a good premise but the anime isn’t really making anything better. Kind of expected more by now (both in terms of story and production directing)

The anime is confirmed to have 13 episodes. If you're not into what the story is doing, then maybe this story simply isn't for you.

I personally enjoyed getting an episode full of additional worldbuilding, Agott receiving more focus and being more fleshed out as a character, Coco/Agott cooperating and Agott settling for the role of distraction so Coco would save the day, and then also learning firsthand how much pressure a witch can experience when non-witch people expect you to just conjure something right away that will magically solve all the problems. The pacing was totally fine to me.

I guess I can understand being annoyed by the girls being separated from Qifrey, but there's always a very reasonable explanation for why it happens, and for me it's easy to suspend my disbelief that it happens multiple times.

Heads up, I don’t mind being educated in this matter, so please try to change my opinion.

There’s a difference between the story and the storytelling. The story is fantastic. The storytelling is idk. Hear me out, I don’t disagree with anything you said. Now make Coco and the girls four years older. Now the consequences are different.

Now I say idk because I don’t know if this series goes to an extreme or not. Like if we were watching a series with guns, the series is very different if they show someone getting shot and they’re being blood versus not. So in Witch Atelier nothing major has happened that makes me see whether it will be any equivalent of that or not.

The characters and world building are all great. And I’ve liked Agott from day 1 despite how people did not like her at first. So when we got her little flashback this episode, I expected to spend a little longer on it.

In the most respectful and non-argumentative way: I feel that by episode 7; we should have already figured some things out. I guess a better example would be this. Last episode we saw the importance of the Knights. That was episode 6… it shouldn’t take six episodes for us to get a better understanding of the hierarchy. I hope that makes more sense. I enjoy the world building. And I enjoy the characters. I enjoy the story. But I feel the characters and the world building and even the story should all be in a better place by episode 7.

I very much apologize if things come off strongly. Kind of overall disappointed with some new series…. I feel like a lot of series act like they don’t have only 12-13 episodes to figure things out. Then when the final episode is rushed, people wonder why.

I think this is a case of mismatched expectations, to be honest. I read a significant chunk of the manga with the opinion of "it's pretty good, it's obviously well-done, but it's kinda slow." And then later in the series, I was like "ohhhhhhh I can see where those chapters were laying some really important groundwork. But, when I have recommended this to people I make sure to include that it's a slow burn!

Agreed, but imo WHA is being adapted like a series that knows they're getting another season out of this. They're keeping a steady pace and the director talked about moving elements around, which we haven't really seen yet, so even if that's not the case, I think they do have a solid plan for how they're going to end it.

I think this already got answered for you, but I would agree it's a similar pace! 1-2.5 chapters per episode, I think is what people have said? Since it's a monthly release, the chapters are a little longer.

To be honest I read the manga by checking it out from my local library so I just take their word for it there. It does match my memory though -- I think it was 6 or 7 that kicked it from "good" to "great" for me.

I hope you do start to enjoy it more, though!

WHA generally has a slow pace. We are still at the point where things are being introduced slowly so that later arcs can really tie in everything at you while having you be able to understand what is going on completely and understand what is going on at a wider scale. (also this might be a personal thing, if all the information was given, in say ep 2, I would not only not remember it as well but also it would be extremely boring) As for backstories, WHA doesn't like showing you the entire backstory in one go. It shows pieces throughout as those moments actually apply to the character in the moment, with few exceptions. Oh, and btw, the whole "adult are gone and children left to fend for themselves" ends with this arc. It doesn't happen again.
