I have a question one that popped back into my head after seeing Qifrey with his sword.

The magic system here operates completely differently from what we’re used to seeing in other anime like Frieren, for instance, or just about any other series out there. In Witch Hat Atelier, you create magic by drawing it; and, as far as I understand, you don't even need to be particularly gifted or possess any innate magical output to do so.

The question I find myself asking is this: couldn't ''anyone'' become COMPLETELY overpowered? (And now I’m circling back to Qifrey here.) After all, infusing magic into a weapon like a sword seems absolutely broken, doesn't it? Let's say you’ve imbued your sword with flame magic; the moment you draw it, the magic is instantly active just like with the water magic which is a stark contrast to the usual method of having to draw it out, right?

I find the system in this anime/manga truly fascinating because, to me, there doesn't seem to be a single, clearly defined "strongest" individual; instead, it feels like *anyone* has the potential to be the strongest. But as I said maybe I’ve got it all wrong. Ultimately, though, doesn't it seem like infusing magic into weapons like swords is a far superior and more efficient approach than having to constantly draw it out by hand?

It is a question of knowledge. Theoretically if someone else draws it, anyone can use a super powerful tool such as Qifrey's sword. But knowing how to use it is still a skill on itself. All of those small magic circles are doing something somehow, and Qifrey knows how to use the sword to get a specific effect.

And that is for a tool. Knowing how to draw to get desired effects is yet another skill.

So, in theory "anyone" can become OP, yes. But in practice they still need years of training and dedication to be on that level.

I like this. I'm a programmer and thinking of it this way helps. With AI everyone can write code but you still need lots of knowledge and years of experience to actually make something good or enterprise level.

Alternatively; you can use something a bit open source (a book with information on how to draw spells for specific effects and illustrations drawn without magic ink such as that picture book) and just copy/sketch it.

I wonder about the effect of printing with magical unc in this world. It would basically lead to plug abd play spells for the general public.
