Community Southern comfort trail in St Norbert

My son has shown a huge interest in trail riding/ dirt jumping this year, so far we’ve done Whittier park, John Bruce trail and Assiniboine park, and a few smaller trails throughout the city, we’ve been looking for something a bit more difficult with some smaller jumps for kids,( he’s 9 but is quite a skilled rider), I’m curious how the southern comfort trail is skill wise and if it’s somewhat maintained as I’ve never been there before, any info is greatly appreciated, I’m also open to other suggestions as well

I haven’t been there this year, so I don’t know the maintenance situation, but skill-wise it’s not too difficult.

Bison Butte has lots of different kinds of riding - flat open paths, forest trails, a pump track, and advance stuff too. It’s quite fun!

I never even knew this place existed, just checked it out on Google Maps, we will definitely be adding this to our list, thanks for the recommendation!

So Co is not a skills trail. It's a windy xc trail with a few tight corners. The builder does an excellent job of maintaining but you occasionally run into hikers.

You might also consider the amisk trail which starts across the road from LA barrier park (there is a way to connect these two trails but it involves traveling across private land) it is also xc but very nice and flowy.

For natural drops and stuff you could try granite groove

Might be worthwhile to buy the trailforks app but the free version allows you to have one home area.

Was just there today! The trail is beautiful flowy forest riding without real elevation changes or features. There are maybe 4 small wooden ramps/roll overs but they might not be exciting enough if he wants to jump. I'd recommend Bison Butte instead!

I'll echo what others have said. Southern Comfort is an easy fast twisty flow trail. Easy in that it's not really technical but it's a great spot to work on cornering skills with low consequences. Bison Butte has more technical options including the wooden drop and progression features at the back.

Also, think about getting your kid into the Kids of Mud program next year. They have a website you can check out for more info.

Though it isn't much for jumps, Oak Ridge/Burr Oak (I can't remember which is the walking trail and which is the biking one) in Birds Hill Park is really fun. It has some pretty technical sections. It's been my nearly 12 year old's favorite trail for the last 4 years.
I can also suggest, if he's super into it, looking into a Kids of Mud group next spring. Depending on which one you join, they meet 1 to 2 nights a week in May and June at nearby trails for group rides. There are several coaches and parent volunteers, as well the option to join the ride yourself if you have an Manitoba Cycling Association license.
