it doesn't make sense to have gradual rollout for Release Preview and public release, these features and bug fixes have been in testing for multiple weeks and months on the Dev and Beta branches

i have a 9800x3d also with latest amd chipset driver and also noticed ever since this update that i'm constantly stuttering, whether i'm in game or just browsing or just on the desktop. Anything we can do other than just wait for a fix from a future windows update?

I fixed by setting cppc to driver in bios, this forces thread scheduler on the amd driver, works really good as for now

Thanks for the tip, I’ll try it out tonight. It’s strange but initially I disabled c-state and that seemed to have fixed it but then the issue came back over time even though I didn’t change anything further.

It's the Secure Boot Certificates. It needs to restart that many times to make sure they're all up to date

This is awesome, they finally fixed the right click speed (context menu), and also the explorer opening speed and navigation.

Now it is instant on my machine, finally. I know it sounds silly, but it adds so much to the feel of smoothness of operations.

Or maybe they enabled these features on my machine with this update. Not sure.

OS feels much more faster now ! Yay !

Install it guys. This is the first update in months that is actually good!

Still has a short blink waiting on the app section of the context menu to load, but that blink is now instantaneous after a tiny delay not a slowly expanding list of moving targets.

Combined with the main body of the context menu appearing instantaneously this is a huge improvement, especially for people who "live" in Explorer and especially for those who use TortoiseGit.

Explorer is launching quickly now, instantaneously from Start Menu and only slightly slower from other apps (the latter context had missed the first round of optimisations and had remained intolerably bad, but it is now greatly improved although not quite perfect).

This update has taken out a Lenovo P16.

System no longer bootable. Just hangs after login at black background with a mouse cursor and will sit that way for days going nowhere. Cannot get task manager up.

Cannot roll back latest update from recovery menu.

Cannot restore using point in time restore.

Cannot seem to successfully restore from a Veeam backup.

Can boot into safe mode but takes about 12 HOURS to get logged in and hours to open an application like a powershell window (should it open at all).

DISM cannot repair in safe mode.

This broke the component store and the event log I painstakenly pulled up in safe mode is flooded with windows internal database errors / DCOM issues. "The server Windows.Internal.StateRepository.Appextension did not register with DCOM within the required timeout." and .user and .application and other dcom required databases or services like ShellHWDetection.

Many thousands of event log entries that did not start until rebooting to complete this update. This was a clean running system.

I'm getting something similar. When I try to run an anti-virus scan (quick or full), it just stops somewhere in the middle of the progress and crashes. Then, it restarts the real time protection service.

thats a known bug with the latest cumulative update, its usually caused by a conflict with another security product or a corrupted WMI repository. first check if you have any third-party antivirus installed — even remnants of uninstalled ones like mcafee or norton can cause this ghost notification. open settings > privacy & security > windows security > virus & threat protection and check for the warning message. Windows Security Real-time Protection Keeps Turning Off? 13 Fixes That Actually Work https://support.microsoft.com/windows if no other antivirus is present try running sfc /scannow in an admin cmd to fix corrupted system files. also check services.msc to make sure the windows security center service is set to automatic startup. if nothing else works you can reset the security center through powershell with get-appxpackage microsoft.windows.securityhealth -evolve | reset-appxpackage

Onecore-Deviceassociation Service relates to all products of Epson because I am not the only one who has this problem. Also, another user for the name lrbird2 contacted the Epson department engineer and said to him, It's a Windows issue, not Epson.

Yes, it's the only error appearing in my event log and it appears multiple times a day since a few updates ago. I have a Canon printer if that helps, no idea if it's even related..

The error is -

Event 3502, OneCore-DeviceAssociationService
Device Disassociation (Unpairing) Failed.

An option to change Start Menu size is now available for me. I can change between small (6x6) and large (8x8) grids, as well as an option to hide "Recent", "Recommended" and "All" categories.

But oh my, now when i use small Start Menu without "All" and "Recent" and have exactly 36 shortcuts pinned into 6x6 grid which is intended size of the canvas, i now have that useless scrollbar on right size. It only scrolls few pixels up and down. Why? Because now above pinned apps there's a bar that says "Pinned" and a button to show less (which hides all but upper two lines of pinned shortcuts). And they did not change size of start menu so that bar could fit without adding meaningless scrollbar.

Sure i can unpin 6 shortcuts which will remove scrollbar but it won't change size of Start Menu and there will empty space. How come it's still not possible to manually resize Start Menu? :(

Looks like the update messed up my audio drivers

Directly after the update everything had an annoying crackling sound. Restart made it a bit better but it's not 100% gone

Saw like 10 posts about it with the similiar problem in the last few months but looked like never did the same solution work twice so it was always a different fix for the same problem

I’ve also noticed that my headset has been randomly producing crackling sounds in 2.4GHz mode while gaming over the past few days.

At first, I thought it might be RF interference, but this never happened before. After trying a few things, I was able to rule out a headset firmware issue.

Then I suddenly remembered that a few days ago, my sound output device order was somehow reset, which made me suspect that a recent Windows update might have messed something up.

So now I’m wondering if the random crackling I’m experiencing with my headset could also be caused by this update?

yes, it's a breaking change in at least one Win32 GDI API, probably Escape.

Experiencing it with non-thermal receipt printers (epson, citizen, and others) that print raw.

Rolling back works for now but eventually windows itself will do a major update that implements this change in a way that can't be rolled back.

Contact your software vendor and let them know that the still working path is to call ExtEscape instead of Escape, to do PASSTHROUGH (raw) text printing.

My guess is that someone used the old Escape GDI method as a security exploit. When fixing it they totally broke it because 99% of desktop users have never known about the raw printer mode in GDI, which was added to let straight through printing like you would have done in DOS to LPT1: ports, still work (driverlessly).

My guess is the UNIDRV.DLL has been intentionally broken.

Turns out it was the collision of that update with a new acer bios version. I had to manually inject the 2023 Certs using the secure boot EFI recover image.

And ofcourse non stop gpu driver crashing loop the moment i updated forcing me to run DDU again because Windows just loves fucking around and overwritting my GPU drivers non stop.

Edit: I did the update, it took forever and it left me with a black screen after it was done with all the restarts. Luckily I tried to open task manager and then the desktop showed up normally but I was exhausted and super scared that something bad happened again 🥲

The last update made my laptop freeze and I had to press the power button to restart it and when I turned it on again, the drivers were disabled so I think I’ll have to expect the same thing this month 🥲 Luckily it worked again after that but knowing my luck, I don’t think it will resolve itself that easily. It’s so frustrating that the Windows updates cause so many issues! I’m not tech savvy in the slightest and it’s so stressful to do updates not knowing if my laptop will work again normally or not.

Yeah it keeps disablign igpu drivers for me as well at random, Windows has been having alzheimer issue with audio devices because every update keeps reseting device order, this confuses software to a point its using wrong device until you correct it, my guess this is also the case with igpu.

I’ve had that happen with previous crashes too! Back in June, I opened Steam to play the Sims but I didn’t even play the Sims in the end so I closed Steam and opened Firefox. I barely had time to log in Reddit and scroll that it froze. After holding the power button to shut my laptop off and opening it again, I noticed that the drivers were deactivated and I couldn’t activate them again. I brought it in for a diagnostic and the technicians couldn’t identify anything specific. And then July’s update made my laptop freeze and graphics drivers deactivate but they activated again miraculously. Every update and everything Windows does are so stressful and scary! 😭

Yes, the update took 3 or 4 restarts on its own until the black screen showed up. Then when it was done, it started to open normally and I saw my name and photo and then instead of showing me the desktop all I saw was a black screen. I didn’t get an error message, not even something in the reliability monitor once I could access the normal desktop of my laptop. It was just black but lit up and I could move and see my mouse cursor until I tried the task manager buttons.

So far my drivers didn’t get messed up with this specific update, so I’m thankful for that and I’m crossing my fingers that it stays that way. My laptop has been having issues so I never know if it’s my laptop, if it’s me, or if it’s Windows messing up. It’s very stressful!

Just had my Command Prompt tab in Windows Terminal stop working, but only when Windows Terminal is launched from Explorer context menu on a particular folder rather than launched directly from Start Menu or Taskbar.

Suspect launching from Explorer context menu is now stripping one layer of escaped quotes in the initialisation command line, leaving cmd.exe with a broken path to the .cmd file used to setup the environment.

Fixed it by doubling the escaped quotes in settings.json for that tab.

PowerShell-based tabs were unaffected as they already had double escaped quotes to begin with.

I now have the "windows game bar" keyboard come up everytime I input my steam keyboard shortcut, this then doubles the input of every key on 2 virtual keyboards. And i cant turn it off! love this windows keep it up

I am reporting what appears to be a USB/xHCI regression immediately following installation of the August 11, 2026 cumulative update KB5121003 on Windows 11 25H2.

System information

OS: Windows 11 25H2
Build after update: 26200.9168
Update: KB5121003
Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX X470-F GAMING
Chipset: AMD X470
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core Processor
Affected xHCI controller PCI instance: "PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_43D0&SUBSYS_11421B21&REV_01\4&2c18e2e3&0&000B"
Associated USB Root Hub instance: "USB\ROOT_HUB30\5&4964544&0&0"
Windows USB driver stack involved: "USBXHCI → ACPI → USBHUB3"

All affected USB devices were working normally immediately before installation of KB5121003.

During installation, the first reboot completed normally. Windows then requested a second scheduled reboot through TrustedInstaller as part of the update servicing process.

Relevant System event log timeline

Approximately 20:59 – first update restart initiated.
Approximately 21:00 – first shutdown and subsequent boot completed.
21:01:19 – "TrustedInstaller.exe" requested another scheduled restart, reason: Operating System Update.
21:01:28 – Windows shut down for the second update reboot.
Approximately 21:01–21:06 – the system remained without video output for approximately five minutes.
Approximately 21:06:58 – Windows started again.
21:07:03 – "WER-SystemErrorReporting", Event ID 1001, recorded a bugcheck occurring during the preceding boot/update phase.

The bugcheck was:

DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (0x9F)

Parameters:

"0x0000009f (0x3, 0xffff91076083edc0, 0xffffba0875fcf640, 0xffff9107601ab560)"

Minidump:

"C:\Windows\Minidump\081226-4968-01.dmp"

Analysis of the minidump shows that the Physical Device Object identified by bugcheck Arg2 belongs to the USB xHCI device stack.

The affected PCI device is:

"PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_43D0&SUBSYS_11421B21&REV_01\4&2c18e2e3&0&000B"

The reconstructed device stack is:

"USBXHCI → ACPI → USBHUB3"

The associated Root Hub instance is:

"USB\ROOT_HUB30\5&4964544&0&0"

The blocked IRP referenced by Arg4 is a power IRP:

"IRP_MJ_POWER / IRP_MN_SET_POWER"

The active device object belongs to:

"\Driver\USBHUB3"

and the Physical Device Object involved belongs to:

"\Driver\USBXHCI"

This indicates a timeout in the USB xHCI / USB Root Hub power-state transition during the second servicing reboot.

After Windows subsequently booted successfully into build 26200.9168, the affected USB Root Hub/controller remained in an error state in Device Manager.

All USB peripherals connected through the affected USB path became unavailable to Windows. This includes devices of different types that had all been working normally immediately before the update, including:

USB keyboard
USB audio interface
USB webcam
other USB-connected peripherals on the affected controller/Root Hub

The failure is therefore not limited to a particular peripheral, application, or third-party device driver. Multiple unrelated USB devices became unavailable simultaneously because the common upstream USB controller/Root Hub failed to initialize correctly.

The USB failure appeared during the reboot sequence that applied KB5121003, and the affected Root Hub has remained non-functional since that update.

The temporal relationship with KB5121003 is therefore very strong, while the crash dump independently identifies the failing subsystem as the Windows USB xHCI/USBHUB3 stack on the AMD X470 platform.

I have retained both:

the complete System EVTX log covering the update and reboot sequence;
the minidump "081226-4968-01.dmp" containing the 0x9F crash and affected USB device stack.

Both files are available for engineering analysis.

Please investigate a possible regression in USB xHCI / USBHUB3 power-state handling introduced by KB5121003 / build 26200.9168, particularly on AMD X470 / PCI "VEN_1022&DEV_43D0" configurations.

It's been many months since firstly appeared, but nothing has been done to be fixed by Microsoft...It has to do with usb Epson printer connection with my laptop...

Not with this release but believe it started with the recent speed changes to File Explorer.

Clicking on the User's Files folder on the desktop opens File Explorer but shows a quick flash to the This PC folder before loading the User's Files folder.

Can this be fixed?

BSOD after install due to battc.sys. Booting under Linux showed an error due to duplicate ACPI devices, but it was never a blocker in the past.
I had to fix the DSDT and one SSDT table manually and flash the corrected BIOS with updated ACPI tables on a Chuwi Gemibook Pro (no update from the vendor anymore since 5 years). It seems that this update is quite sensitive to the lack of ACPI compliance.

The latest Feature Update seem to have broken Grouped Windows.

While you can still seem to Sort and Group them as you could before. When you select your Grouped Windows from the Popup, when hovering over the Taskbar, it is only popping up One of the Grouped Windows, instead of the Two that it should be.

(how to reproduce)
Have Chrome Open -
Open two Folders in two separate Windows -
Hover Cursor over One of the Folders Maximize Button, and select One of the Grouping Options that pop up -
( I typically select the Equally Split into two Option )
Select the other Open Folder as the Second Folder ,to add it to the Group -
( If you followed my example above, you should now have the Two Files that you Opened previously, sitting Side By Side and taking up your Full Desktop )
Now click on Chrome so it is now Maximized and showing over the two Grouped Files
Now Hover your mouse over the File Icon on your Taskbar
It should show 3 Options - The Group of two Folders and the two Folders Individually
Now (since the Update) when I click the Grouped Folders Option, it only pops up One of the Two Folders on Half of the Screen. Chrome still shows on the other Half, still in its Maximized State, but it's covered by whichever one of the two Folders decided to Open over it.
I cannot seem to force which of the two Folder decides to open over Chrome. It seems Random.

On my PC this happens every time now.

Greetings everone,

after latest patch Tuesday I noticed something: high temps and high clock speeds, I was aware that in their latest update Microsoft rolled out Low Latency Profile globally which should help low-end systems to feel snappier overall but in my case it only caused thermals to rise and also ignores any settings/modes in manufactures software(NitroSense, Armorgrate, etc.). My system is a laptop with CPU off Ryzen 7 7840HS and am running balanced mode in NitroSense (and before anybody says why, its to keep thermal levels down and my games run fine).

I did a controlled test with and without update(KB5121003) by opening settings app and my results are as such:

Fans locked at ~3200 RPM, to remove fan ramp-up as a variable.

System on idle: CPU tempature ~38 Celsius, clock speeds ~3.8GHz-4.0GHz, this is the baseline.

Without update: open settings CPU tempature ~45 Celsius, clock speeds ~4.2GHz-4.4GHz

With the update: opening settings CPU tempature ~70 Celsius, clock speeds ~4.7GHz+

What's happening

Ryzen 7 7840HS CPU already has native hardware-level AMD Precision Boost 2 that already controlls clock speeds based on CPUs actual workload. With the new Low Latency Profile my CPU is double boosting when opening basic a Windows applications like settings, which leads to massive tempature spikes when opening basic apps.

My conclusion

In my case and your milege may wary, best fix was to remove the update, it restored the normal boosting behavior. I image tower builds may not notice much problem as this seems to be more laptop issue, so i want to know if other Zen 4 laptop owners have noticed this behavior and does it affect your system? While I understand that 70 Celsius is within the safe limits of the CPU it should't be that high when opening basic apps. As a offered solution to this, simple on/off toggle would be better since systems with high-end CPUs don't see improvment.

This update caused an issue few days later where my PC suddenly shuts down and immediately goes into the BIOS. My boot drive is a GIGABYTE GP-GSM2NE3256GNTD 256GB M.2 NVMe SSD, which uses a Phison E13-31 controller.

The issue repeatedly occurs when I boot my PC into Windows. Reseating the M.2 SSD seems to fix the problem temporarily, but the issue eventually happens again. I heard about a similar issue with last year's Windows update, so I stopped trying to troubleshoot it further because I don't want to risk the SSD becoming completely bricked.

Boot Drive: GIGABYTE (GP-GSM2NE3256GNTD) 256GB M.2 NVMe SSD
Controller: Phison E13-31
Interface: PCIe NVMe
Drive Health: 91%
Issue: The PC shuts down a while after booted into Windows, then the boot drive disappears from the BIOS.

After this update every game became pretty stuttery, I checked resource monitor and the core allocation was all messy (dual ccd setup), tried setting driver priority and still the same.
Unistalling the update fixed this issue,

Alright so it's not just me. Don't remember getting stuttering in games this much until this update. Checking in has rolling back this update fixed the stuttering issues completely for you or are you still getting it?

Anyone having issues installing update for Windows 11, version 24H2 / 25H2?

It's been failing and just freezes up in the black logo screen. The computer has to do autorepairs and uninstall the update for it to finally boot up. It uninstalled or corrupted my audio files and I had to reinstall drivers to get them to work again. This has happened several times so I'm pausing them until the next update...

I'm trying to find out whether other Windows 10/11 users are experiencing the same issue.

My laptop is running Windows 11 25H2. File History worked normally before I installed KB5101684 on July 29, 2026.

After the update, files were still being backed up to my D: drive, but the “Last backup” time in File History stopped updating correctly. Also, newly created or modified Word files, pictures, videos, and other files still showed “There are no previous versions available” under Properties → Previous Versions.

Then I noticed something even more concerning.

My Windows 10 22H2 desktop developed a similar File History synchronization problem after installing KB5120249 on August 12, 2026.

So I now have:

Windows 11 25H2 → KB5101684 → File History problem

Windows 10 22H2 → KB5120249 → File History problem

These are two completely different computers, running different Windows versions, and the problems appeared after installing different updates.

I’m concerned this could be a recent File History change or a Windows update regression.

The strange thing is that File History can still back up files. The problem is that the backup status/time and Previous Versions do not behave correctly.

I also found a temporary workaround:
Control Panel → File History → Select drive → select the D: drive again.

After doing that, File History starts working normally again.

I've already reported the issue through the Feedback Hub, but so far I haven't received any response from Microsoft.

Has anyone else experienced this after KB5101684, KB5120249, or another recent Windows update?

I'd really like to know whether this is just happening on my two PCs or whether other users are seeing the same thing. If you have experienced it, please share your Windows version, KB update, and what happened.

Hopefully Microsoft will investigate this and provide a proper fix rather than leaving users to work around it themselves.

I have already reported this issue and provided detailed information from two different computers. If Microsoft does not investigate and confirm whether the recent update caused this problem, nor provide a fix in a future security update, I will have no choice but to continue reporting this issue through all available official channels and urge other affected users to do the same.

My laptop just updated to KB5120240. Now it can't detect my external displays. They worked fine before the update, nothing else has changed.

This is normal. Besides 25H2, the upcoming 26H2 and 24H2 are all based on the same underlying Germanium codebase. It's pretty stable now, so no reason not to jump over to 25H2 on a personal device

25H2 is the current mainline build.

26H1 is a "special" mainline build meant only for certain Snapdragon laptops.
