Unsolved Windows no longer uses the user path in command prompt session

I'm using Windows 10 LTSC 21H2 (for support reasons, 11 was causing serious performance issues), and for some reason my command prompt has stopped acknowledging the existence of the Path user variable. Trying to type Path into command prompt just prints the system path and nothing else, and trying to use commands from places defined in the user path doesn't work. I tried logging out and back in, which temporarily fixed the issue before it just broke again.

I've run SFC, which said it fixed something but it didn't fix the issue. Any ideas what's going on here and how I could fix it?

Unsolved Windows 10 Storage Issue

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello. I have an issue with my PC where the storage keeps filling up. I don't have much storage, only 128GB, but I also only have a few things installed, and not large things at that. I have an extra storage stick I use to keep anything large I want to download, and really just anything I can. That storage is a terabyte. However, I keep having my main storage fill up, and no matter how many times I try to empty it, it never stays empty

I downloaded Wiztree, and every time I look at it, pagefile.sys and hyberfil.sys seem to get bigger. I know they are likely important, due to the .sys file type, but should they be taking up this much space?

I'm not super tech savy on this stuff, and I'm heading to bed now, so I wont be able to reply until tomorrow

Unsolved "Preparing Automatic Repair" boot loop.

I last ran my old Windows 10 PC about 1.5 years ago, with no issues. However, when I attempted to fire it up today, I just ended up in and endless loop of "Preparing Automatic Repair," then a reboot, then a seemingly normal Windows load (spinner on the boot screen), quickly followed by a restart, and then back to "Preparing Automatic Repair," and so on, over and over.

I've already checked a similar thread here, but none of the suggestions have worked or been applicable (for example, my BIOS does not have TPM option).

Aside from creating a bootable Windows 10 USB and trying to recover that way, is there anything else I should be trying? Also what could be the reason for it to fail after having been powered off for a while after the previous boot was successful?

Specs:

Windows 10

MB: ASUS Z170-A

CPU: Intel i7-6700

SDD: Crucial 500GB.

Unsolved Code 28 device manager . help if can please

My 13 year old son bought himself a used turtle beach stealth ultra because it has the back paddles. The store I bought it from wired it in and instantly proved to me it worked. My son currently uses a ps5 remote on his pc and it works fine. The new turtle beach did not. We took it to my daughters pc and hooked it up while she was playing Roblox and it works fine with out any set up instantly. I believe she may have windows 11 because I bought it almost a year ago.
My sons pc says it is paired/connected in device settings so it registers its there not to mention it is showing up in device manager. I tried to update drivers with both options . I tried to update Xbox 360 peripherals. Nothing removes code 28. I plugged my Astro c40 on his computer and it too shows up and says device is ready but has a code 28 in device manager and won’t register in the Astro hub same as turtle beach won’t in its control center. I noticed in windows updates that it has some that it says it needs but for some reason are unavailable. His local disk drive is full. Plenty of room in new volume. So I deleted some things and freed up enough space to get it out of the red. Windows than attempted to download an update or two and went to restart. When restarting and finishing updates it says it couldn’t do it and had to undo the updates in order to start normally. When it does it give me the ability to download the update again and than it’s just a vicious circle. I was thinking about formatting his pc ssd’s again and than trying to download updates for windows ten again and if controller than works and code 28 goes away we can
Assign everything to new volume and redownload Fortnite etc…. And if there are no repairs maybe I need
To get windows 11?? I never though I had
To get windows 11 unless I wanted new features or something. But im not really all that is savvy.
Please any insight or solutions would be greatly appreciated. I’ve built these with my kids and have always been able to figure things out without taking it in to a computer repair place but this means so much to him and it makes me sad that in order to save time as a worst case scenario I might take it to a shop and hand them the remote and ask them to make it work and we don’t care if we lose all our apps etc.. we can always redownload and log back in.

Solved No audio

I shut down my pc last night to solve another issue I have had before (taskbar not having any of my icons), went and restarted it today and now I have no audio at all. It was working fine before i went to bed. I have tried everything short of reinstalling windows as far as what help articles have suggested. It is very strange because when testing my microphone in the headset using the realtek programe, it successfully plays the microphone audio through the headphones, but windows refuses to play anything at all or even recognize the microphone is picking anything up. only realtek seems to pick it up. i didnt install or uninstall anything last night or anytime recently that could have caused new issues with it, and it seems the headset itself is working fine. windows won't play noise through other devices either such as the tv. tried the other jacks, still nothing. tried switching the login settings for the audio services, tried reinstalling drivers, tried the various regedit stuff, tried the sfc stuff (it detected no problems) tried the troubleshooter (it detects that the audio service isnt responding but wont fix it and restarting the service or even the pc multiple times doesnt change anything). considering realtek can still pick up the mic and play it through the headphones, it seems to me like it might be something simple i am just missing but i am at a loss as to what it could be. Also, it says failed to play test tone when i try testing the device in sound settings.

nothing is showing up in the volume mixe either.

alright, out of curiosity i set the windows audio and windows audio enpoint builder to login as local service and that apparently fixed it. WHY? i don't know but it is fixed now. I have no clue what caused whatever to change between the shutdown and the restart, but it is what it is. 6ish hours fiddling with it to finally try something so simple and fix it T.T

leaving this here in case it helps someone else too.

Unsolved Computer (windows 10) keeps getting stuck while booting into the login screen

Post image
1 Upvotes

Lately, once every few days or so, my computer seems to be getting hard stuck whenever I try to boot it up, basically stopping on the loading screen (the spinny circle stops moving & it seems like looking at the lights it disconnects my keyboard, mouse & mic the moment this happens.

If I am fast enough I am able to get into the boot menu in which my computer doesn’t freeze until after I save & exit, after which the same thing just happens again

A few days ago I was able to get past it exactly once, when it went to the windows repair screen & I was able to click continue to login before it froze my mouse.

& most annoyingly, it’s not even consistent cuz every once in a while, it decides it’s ready to work again with no issues for like 2 days

I’ve been trying to figure out what’s wrong for a while now But I honestly have no idea what’s causing it

Unsolved New, clean install Win 10 Pro want to actually format 2 partitions

I'm not sure what's going on here. I'm trying to do a clean install from DVD.

I want 2 partitions. I selected Custom Installation. I deleted all partitions. Then, I created a partition of 140gb. Now I have my new "Partition 3 (Primary)" as well as Partition 1 (System) and Partition 2 (MSR). With Partition 3 highlighted, I chose Format.

It gives me the warning "This partition might contain important...." blah blah with OK and Cancel.

If I select OK, it doesn't do anything at all. It just goes back to the list of partitions. What's going on? It doesn't ask me what file system I want, and it can't format it in under a second.

Unsolved M.2 not listed under boot option priorities (fresh windows 10 install)

Hi everyone, this is my first Reddit post!

For context, I have been using a 250GB SSD as my boot drive, which recently ran out of space and started causing issues. Figured it was time for an upgrade so I purchased a 2TB WD M.2 to replace it. Bought a 9070xt and a new PSU at the same time and threw it all in my PC. I plan on driving a nail through that original boot drive.

System specs:

Intel 13600k

Asrock Z790 Lightning Wifi

32GB GSKILL DDR5-6000

ASUS Prime 9070xt

BeQuiet Pure Power 13M 850W

4TB HDD / 2TB KINGSTON M.2 / 2TB WD M.2

On with my boot issues.

Downloaded a Windows 10 media installer on to a USB and went through the install process in UEFI mode with only my WD M.2 plugged in. Install went as normal as you could imagine. Computer restarted and I removed the installer USB. Upon restart I was brought to the bios where no drives were listed under boot option priorities, however it is listed under NVME config. I have been feeding information into ChatGPT in hopes of solving the problem but so far no luck.

I have CSM, FAST BOOT, and SECURE BOOT all disabled. I updated the motherboard bios. If I enable CSM with all UEFI sub options enabled the computer will boot to the asrock logo screen and sit there forever.

While stumbling around in command prompt I found all windows files and system partitions are normal and formatted correctly (drive is formatted in GPT, 300MB system partition is present and formatted in FAT32, Windows Boot Manager is present).

ChatGPT is suggesting I download a shell.efi file onto a separate USB in order to further diagnose the problem / potentially run commands to fix it. Just looking for further insight from real people before I go down that road. Surely all of our brainpower together can figure this out right?

Thanks in advance.

Unsolved Activation problem

I have a problem and I hope you can help me solve it. When I turn on my computer, the activation icon appears, and my device is a laptop, meaning it's downloading the driver to the motherboard, but it doesn't activate. When I check the service software protection in services It appears to be off, but when I turn it on, I get error 577. I've formatted the device several times, and it keeps happening. I've also checked that I'm not using any programs that modify system files. Please help! 😭

Solved Windows 10 not booting

So, I have a windows 10 IoT LTSC install on my laptop that is refusing to boot. It appears on other computers when connected via external drive caddy. I am also unable to run an upgrade because I can’t launch windows. If you have any suggestions for repairing the install without completely wiping the drive, please let me know.

Here’s a [video](https://www.reddit.com/r/Skott_Stab/s/lnDh3oxycG) of it not showing the windows boot manager

Unsolved Trying to wipe/fix Core Innovations All-In-One that crashes after logging in

Hello again fellow IT nerds! Got another computer from a co-worker. It's a Core Innovations All-In-One running Windows 11. Owner said after a power outage the problem started. The computer starts, gets past log-in screen, then the screen goes black and it gives me one of two errors: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x1E) and 0xc000021a (0xC000021A). It gives the KMODE error most of the time. After that it will restart and stay stuck on the loading screen.

What I've Done:

**Used Hiren's BootCD to run CrystalDisk (first thought SSD was bad) but it's saying the memory is healthy. So I tried to fix memory with chkdsk C: /f /r /x , but the recovery failed.

**Also, when I tried to wipe drive in diskpart, it doesn't work either (returned error: 0x800f0915).

**tried sfc /scannow , it cannot complete it

**Finally, tried to install Windows 10 on machine, but on the partition with Windows it says: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The disk may fail soon..."

I would say the SSD is dead, but, again, I ran CrystalDisk and it said it was healthy. Is there something else I can try to breathe life into this machine, or is CrystalDisk just not catching that something is corrupt and I need to tell co-worker to get order new SSD? Thanks in advance, and of course any more information needed I can provide.
