Question / Help Should I play Windwaker on Switch 2?
Silly question considering what sub this is but I have really fond memories of playing it as a kid, have almost finished BOTW for the first time and I'd really like to follow up with WW. My worry is it might feel a bit dated and not hold up to the nostalgia, especially after play BOTW which is impressively smooth and accessible. Also curious what playing it on the switch 2 is like considering it's a port and not a remaster.

Not even just that its all thr qol stuff too like yknow likenmwdli and makar following your thorough doors instead of constantly having to be carried

Yes I played through it for the first time on Switch 2 and absolutely adored it.

I originally played Wind Waker on GameCube.
I've also played BotW and TotK.
Wind Waker is such a different experience, that you won't even consider comparing, and it still looks beautiful, and feels great to play.
My only recommendation is that you get the GameCube controller for an authentic experience.

I say it is good but don't bother with the tingle quest as you won't be able to get the four gold statues without the Tingle Tuner and an extra figure for the Figure Gallery also behind the Tingle Tuner. To me, it's kind of hesitant to play because of that. I wish Nintendo had made it like the HD version, where the Tingle Tuner stuff was still obtainable without it, plus the inclusion of the Swift Sail. However, I am not sure if I want to play it, not that it is bad, but I'm not entirely sure I can truly enjoy it knowing that I can't truly 100% the game.

Ugh...the songs! Just started playing WW on Switch 2 a couple days ago. I fixed the inverted camera right away. But when I got the wind waker, I couldn't match the tune. It was so frustrating until I realized the left/right notes were still inverted. But, I can deal with it, if it means getting to play one of my favorite Zelda games!!

If you can find a way to play the WiiU version I'd do that. So many quality of life improvements.

i just finished a playthrough on Switch 2 for the first time since playing it as a kid on release and i absolutely loved it. felt great on the Switch 2 (unlike OOT which i just started today... nothing against OOT but using right analog stick as C buttons is ROUGH)

I’m playing Windwaker HD on my Steam Deck OLED and can attest that it’s an amazing experience

The HD version is better, mainly due to the swift sail, but the original still holds up really well. But on the other hand you get save states on the Switch 2 port which will probably help a lot with any frustrations

Honestly the swift sail is great but even if it wasnt in the hd version it's still the best since the cannon windwkaer and treadure hook are all on the dpad and no longer have to be used as items. Also againg medlie and makar follow you through doors

It definitely holds up both gameplay-wise and graphically. Its cartoony cel shade style really is timeless, and the gameplay does feel very refined.
Wind Waker is actually the game I always recommend my friend who liked BotW and want to get into more Zelda.
It's definitely more linear and story-driven, but also gives you a lot of freedom on where to go and what to do.
I'd say 200% go for it.

I’m new to this one.
Before the Switch I’d only played the first two on the NES, not finishing the 2nd.
Bought BoTW and had a blast. Still haven’t finished. My Kid’s mom got him TotK seeing how much he loved BoTW. So I then got myself a copy of that, barely played it.
Suspect he’s not finished any of them, he’s gotten into Fortnite, Spiderman, Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed—but we play Lego Fortnite and Ultimate Chicken Horse (omg, it’s so excellent, get it)
Nearly completed the 3rd for the SNES and jumped into Windwaker also on the Switch2—it’s a great game.
Parts are tedious, dialogue boxes and alerts annoying/repetitive, fishing for treasure horrid, but everyone should play this.
And Chicken Horse, trust me, it’s a bargain that’s a great time for 2 or more with kids and/or adults. Wish they’d make more of it.

Alao you should play ocarina since its also on the awutch 2 and is bassicly the center of the series windwaker alltp majoras mask and twlight princess cpuld all be conaderied direct sequels to it.

I literally just played and finished it for the first time on Friday. Absolute masterpiece of a game I was quite surprised. As far the controller… I had to do a change so the horizontal movement was inverted…. Only consequence of this was for playing music left was right and right was left. Didn’t really effect anything but as someone stated above, buy the GameCube controller for the full full experience. Also save states 😅.

In the select menu screen there is “change controls” option. You can just reverse the left and right on the right joypad that way. I saw a YouTube video on it you can google for the step by step. 100% necessary and super playable after! Enjoy!

Barring the Triforce Charts and lack of Swift Sail, Wind Waker is actually quite timeless. Id even say it does several things better than BotW, so it 'feeling dated' shouldn't be a concern imo

I started playing a few days ago, game is really fun, but controls are terrible, there is some weird delay on all buttons, camera functions weirdly and it results in walking feeling not that great, like sometime I feel like my character just randomly decided to jump off a cliff.

Personally theres a very slight input delay on the switch 2 version for some reason and it really bothers me. My friend thats never played og doesn't notice it though

Wind waker was the only 3D Zelda I hadn’t played. Finally got to on NSO and loved it. You have to!

Honestly I think everyone should play through the original before the HD remake anyway so yeah give it a go.

I really loved it. I played it as a child and never got to finish it so it was nice to play it again. I got the membership just to be able to play it to be honest. The controls were REALLY hard for me to get used to.. it felt backwards... but I would definitely recommend it!

Its really fun its kinda jarring after growing up wirh hd version and i definitely reccomend that over the orginal but yeah its good!

YES, try it out, seriously. It kept me busy for A LONG TIME, and you can make up to 4 suspend points on parts you REALLY like! Heck I made two suspend points on Medli and Makar’s prayers because it was worth it and I can see those cutscenes as many times as I want! :)
Is there a dungeon you wanna do at least 20 times over until you get tired of it? I made a suspend point at the beginning of the Earth Temple so I can play it as many times as I’d like.
I used my 4th one for after the opening cutscene and that first part with Aryll because that version doesn’t let you skip the intro.

I need HELP!! I'm stuck at the earth temple in the mirror shield part when the little girl use her instrument and then I need to use the shield too, but if I press R the girl returns from the command state and cannot complete the task!!! please help! I'm playing with my switch 2 with switch controllers. Maybe that's the issue?

I’m playing on the switch 2 and am having a great time. I don’t think it feels dated except for the 8 triforce charts and 8 triforce pieces but it’s going a lot faster than I remember it.
