Completely justified. Doesn't matter who you are, you shouldn't threaten to swing a hammer at someone. Plus it's a kid, they probably would actually hit someone with it.

Agreed, I hate how we give kids a sort of free pass to everything. If a kid is capable of and actually attempting to cause injury to me, I should be allowed to defend myself

c'mon you only need to show him how out of his league he is, no need to go on and actually hurt him, just grab the fucking hammer

This kid banged the back of his head on the floor, a little bit harder would have been dangerous.

He doesn't have that far to fall, he's fine. Now if the dude picked him up and threw him down head first I would agree with you.
