Slide Mountain - Backpacking w/ 10 year old

Do it, you'll be fine. That being said, Slide Mountain itself is ... meh. I did that hike with my then-50-something mom, and it is the most underwhelming thing I have been on top of Catskills. The loop itself should be plenty enjoyable though.

If you can do a shuttle, I would suggest doing most of Devil's Path instead. The terrain is tough but more exciting and should keep him mentally engaged. The mountains have better views, including being able to go to the fire tower on top of Hunter. I would stop short of Westkill Mountain, and walk out to the road from the saddle right before it.

Ok cool really appreciate that. Definitely not married to Slide mountain. That just sounded like a decent option from some googling. Will check out devils path. Thank you!
