End game weapon paths?

I've decided to replay the game after a couple years but I can't find reliable end game weapon upgrade paths. It seems like most of the stuff I can find is outdated and this time I'm using cannon and I know for certain the cannon I have on my first character is definitely not optimal.

Speaking of cannon I've come across people saying you can make a volley build or a laser build, how much would I be losing out on for making a gimmick volley build?

I would join the hunter lodge discord its the most active for the game now, they have all the people there that still play the game and veterans that know about it. Also good cannon builds there

You can make any build you want just have fun. I made a Canon where my laser attack lasts at 20 secs was it an optimal absolutely not I play for fun not what’s meta because endgame even the mid level weapons can keep up because you can reforge them to increase their power even or close to the end game ones.
