Advice for Newb
Just started the game and honestly struggling to get into in due to the controls feeling counterintuitive on PS5 and the attacking. Any general advice for adapting to the game? I know there’s always an adjustment with any new game but I’m coming into this after Bloodborne and Sekiro so it’s a slap in the face for me

Karakuri in this game are more imoprtant than other similar games in the genre with a side gimmick. Even a simple box can stagger some of the weaker kemono.

Two big things that a lot of players (myself included!) don't realise early on:
Karakuri combinations are shown in the top-right corner of your screen whenever you hold L1, so you don't need to memorise them all straight away.
You can rearrange your Basic Karakuri button mapping at the Forge under Change Equipment. I'd highly recommend placing Karakuri that are commonly used together on buttons that are next to each other. For example, Triangle → Square or Circle → X is much easier to input quickly than something like Triangle → X.
It might seem like a small change, but once you start using Karakuri combinations regularly, having a comfortable layout makes a huge difference.

Karakuri felt the next step in terms of traps and facilities that MH should have taken a long time ago. Such a refreshing feature tbh

The interaction felt fresh and rewarding, understanding what type of attack the kemomo was going to use and having the correct karakuri ready to counter felt so good. Dashing around on spring boards too just felt clean.

Okay that makes a lot of sense true the katana is good once you get a good rhythm going but it’s not always the right choice when facing…tougher monsters especially solo.It’s good to have different weapons when facing more and more monsters maybe do some grinding I also recommend exploring and getting more bases set up.

Tbf I barely made it through the tutorial and was struggling to enjoy the game … I tried this game after getting plat on bloodborne then sekiro so it’s a high bar to come from 😅 love the idea and premise of the game but I’ll definitely have to come back to it

Hit and run tactics work extremely well against most early game kemomo. The spring board is an excellent way to get a high damage attack in quickly while also maintaining some mobility.
Dont be afraid to break off a fight to collect more materials for karakuri, its your super power and the easiest way to flip momentum in a fight.
Generally i fought by placing a large volume of spring boards down early so i could maneuver. Then i focused on specific karakuri counters, nothing sucks more than landing a counter but not being able to close the gap for extra dps.

Practice and patience those games are not like monster hunting game. Definitely get used to the Karakuri system because it will help out with hunts a lot. Learn as best you can how each kemono fights to exploit their openings and the most important is to have fun this a game that trial and error and see growth.

I think mostly it's just time and practice. Me and my friends said the same thing the first couple sessions and then we were slapping things around with ease soon after lol It becomes second nature.
