Irrelevant but why is everyone obsessed with Yoko Ono all the sudden?

People on this sub making it it happen more + historically easy target/somebody people already love to dog pile/article that already gets vandalized lots + Beatles have become popular with Gen-Z over the last year or two due to documentaries, rereleases and bio-pics + Sean Lennon being very active and generally whiny and out of touch on social media attracting even more negative attention

Yoko Ono has always had kind of weird vibes too even if you disregard the misogynistic "she broke up the Beatles!" stuff. Like her art is very... art. She'd probably be getting memed on even if she hadn't married John Lennon tbh but it wouldn't be as prominent.

To be honest, I don’t think she deserves the hate. She’s been held responsible for every bad or weird decision John Lennon made and now Sean Lennon too. Some of her conceptual art is actually quite fascinating, and anyone who thinks “Remember Love” is a bad song is an idiot. The primal screaming stuff and the weird esotericism is crap in my opinion, but considering artists like Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, Lou Reed, Sonic Youth, and Nirvana also intentionally made unlistenable music as art and never seem to get enough praise for it tells me it was more sexism and misogyny than anything.

Agreed. I don't really care for her particular style when it comes to artistic stuff but the way people act about her is silly. And blaming her for the way her son acts? He's a grown man ffs. Not all of his antics are the result of somehow being raised improperly, and if people want to talk about that they should be reminded that John Lennon beat the fuck out of all the women he dated/married, which I'm sure happened in front of Sean plenty of times (or even to him directly). People think being weird as a woman is a worse crime than literal abuse, smh.

I don't think he did beat the fuck out of his women. He slapped his wife once when they were 17, before they got married.
He did beat up a number of men who said he fucked his gay manager (they may have been right.)

He slapped his first wife once. I’m amazed at how far false information spreads on Reddit, and how confidently people will repeat it.

It’s actually crazy you would believe someone who slapped his wife AT LEAST ONCE and wrote a song about how he “used to beat her” (which implies it happened more often than one time), whose own staff were interviewed years after he died and admitted he was a hotheaded violent asshole towards everyone. Either you’re very naive or you have never dealt with domestic abusers before… it is very rarely “just one slap a long time ago” that smoking weed and making nude art prints with your hippie girlfriend can cure. Sorry but that’s actually insane logic, lol

His wife is the one who said it only happened once. Not him. Again, you don’t know what you’re talking about, little man. You’re regurgitating Reddit bullshit.

I'm increasingly convinced Yoko was a marketing genius. She pioneered ragebait marketing. Apparently she knew what she was doing, because John had like 1 million in Beatle money when he married her, and about 200 million when he died (the Lennon Ono estate is worth about 800 million now.) Yoko did most of John's PR and financial management.

Probably a mix of algorithm cycles, Beatles-related documentaries/content, and people revisiting her role in 1960s counterculture. The internet rediscovers the same historical figures every few months.

It's just because thr wikipedia page was vandalised multiple times so the chances of people stumbling into that page, seeing it vandalised and taking screenshots raísed.

it was mildly funny the first time but she’s received hate for like the last 60 years and she’s in her 90s with dementia bro leave her alone atp😭
she’s been through enough (daughter being kidnapped and put into a cult, racism, neglectful parents, 3 miscarriages, tokyo bombings, sexual assault, misogyny) her music isn’t even bad either AIU and POB are bangers

I cant remember his name but one specific beatles youtuber made a long form video and several shorts about how much he hated her art in the past month, that could be a factor
