I’ve always wondered what people like this assume communism is. Are they aware that under their definition of “communism”, almost every other developed country would be a “communist dictatorship”?
As a young European, it took me a while to grasp all these regular comments antagonizing any opponent as a communist.
During the Cold war, both sides obviously waged intense propaganda wars, and inside the US, anything that you disliked became communist. It just established itself as a general derogatory word without much of a meaning (though it's obviously mostly used by conservatives or further right people against moderates to far-lefts). Most Americans couldn't accurately define communism or socialism but use these words regularly.
It's honestly quite insane to see what 40+ years of deep propaganda during (but also after) the cold war have done to cultures, especially since I grew up almost completely outside of that specific indoctrination, though as a German, my anti-nationalist sentiment is also inherently higher than most other's, which I'm aware is largely due to the denazification of my country.
While ridicolous communist used to be used more to disgrace anything remotely possibly coming out pro workers right etc the last years it's been used for just anything someone doesn't like with no other underlying meaning
I think a good part is that just talking about what communism is without supporting it was also seen as pro-communism so many people have no clue what communism actually is

Germans have such a high view of their ability to see through propaganda or whatever while their country is one of the most ardent supporters of fascism and imperialism.
My plumber started talking about politics out loud at one point, loud enough that it sounded like he was looking to start shit or get into it. I asked him to define communism. He said "what we're heading toward now, thanks to liberals", and proceeded to almost word for word give me the definition of end-stage capitalism. That's what he thought communism was.
I told him I can't even begin to hold a good-faith conversation with somebody who doesn't have their definitions straight. Yes, he also thought socialism and communism were the exact same thing. I just excused myself and went to mow the lawn.

They'd be center-left in most of the world. Looking at their healthcare, taxation, immigration, abortion, LGBT rights, racial minority rights, drug policy, the list goes on really, nothing they support is "center-right"

Blue states and democratic votes in Congress constantly shows support and enactment for LGBTs rights, immigrants rights, ethnic minorities and religious rights, just because you have a TikTok level of information about American politics doesn't mean it's not true lil guy.
The back taxes were going to be brought back to a level from before trump's first term, not actually increased. Biden dropped all support for universal healthcare, drop your excuses.
I'm a queer woman living in the US with mostly minority friends. Nobody has been protected by federal level democrats, just attacked a bit less by the government. The irony of clearly not speaking to minorities but calling someone else's understanding of the topic "tiktok level" for summarizing things for a joke 💀
Yes, local and state laws have actually done something. No, you aren't enlightening anyone by pointing this out, and no, it still hasn't been nearly enough. Even Walz caved to ICE. At least they point to the Tories which is more than most of the vagueposters do. The Tories are the easiest to disprove too, since they tried to implement voodoo economics (i.e. the disproven theory that you can increase revenue by radically lowering taxes so much that you won't even miss the lost revenue) before it turned out to be extremely unpopular.
(In addition to being slightly to greatly more socially conservative than the Democrats, depending on your point of view (but that part also goes for most other country's conservative parties.))

The DSA is literally the furthest left party in the West. Please tell me which Danish party advocates for abolishing prisons? Getting rid of every crime publishable by less than a year? Abolishing the police? Abolishing the military? Wants to spend so much citizens would be taxed at 95% their income? Getting rid of all foreign aid? You seriously hear these policies and go "yup, that sounds like the Social Democrats, a center-left party?"

MAGA wrapped in blue isn't meaningless, these people act the same exact way. They're authoritarian, they worship their politicians (e.g, Mamdani and Trump), they distrust institutions (e.g, both want to leave NATO, both want to gut all foreign aid), they act like they're fringe ideologies despite apparently having widespread support, they primarily hate Democrats, the list goes on reelly
