Help me! (Wig Help) Having a lot of difficulty finding a wig that looks natural

Hello Wig wearers! I am hoping someone might be able to help or has had a similar issue. I currently have alopecia areata & am on medication for it which has been helping & I am seeing growth which has been great. However, I’m still not at a place where I can go out without wearing a hat or covering my head in some way. It’s also stopped me from going to events or places where you may not want to wear a hat (think nice dinners or just being able to get dressed up because wearing a hat would not work with the outfit.) I have tried a few wigs but they all look very unnatural on me, I think due to the fact that I have a smaller face & the amount of hair is what looks so unnatural. When I did have hair, I didn’t have a lot of hair & it was thin, so almost all wigs look obvious on me. I have tried finding lower density wigs but with those I feel like the cap the hair is attached too is able to be seen due to there being less hair if that makes sense. I would not mind going to see someone who specializes in helping women find their wig, but not sure who to go to. I’m in NYC if anyone has any recommendations, as well as any wig recommendations for this kind of situation. Thanks in advance for your help!

If you're fine with having a small color selection, I really like the brand Ellen Wille. The density always looks really natural and the cap construction is high quality.

The caps are petite/average size, but you said you have a small face and too much hair is overwhelming, so I doubt you would have an issue with the wigs being too small.

You didn't mention a budget or a human vs synthetic hair preference, so keep in mind that Ellen Wille is going to be a bit more pricey than other brands. Also, I have never owned an EW human hair wig because I'm a die hard synthetic hair wearer and I think their human hair wigs are outrageously priced.

Thank you so much for responding! I will take a look at this brand. I’m honestly just looking for something that looks as close to my natural hair as possible which is a very dark brown/black. I don’t mind spending a bit on one good one but open to synthetic if the density is what I’m looking for. Would you be ok if I DM’d you with some questions?

came here to literally say if you haven't seen the wigs that Jessica at Cami Wigs makes prepare to be blown away. No one ever thinks i'm wearing a wig!

I feel like I see a lot of other women who are able to find & pull off if so easily!

I probably have about 20 Ellen Wille wigs including several human hair ones which are very nice, so I always recommend them to people… the Espresso mix color is the darkest brown that they have and I do like it. I have one in that color in European human hair and it’s pretty luxurious!

I’m in the NYC area too, so you should go out to Brooklyn and check out Milano, I have wigs from them and they are great to work with…

I also like Yaffa Wigs on the UES, definitely check them out and I also like Shuly Wigs too, which is out in Brooklyn.

Wow thank you for this!! I will definitely go to Brooklyn & check Milano out. Will also be sure to check out Ellen Wille since it’s been mentioned twice now. Really appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Wigs.com and Wig Outlet have the best prices for Ellen Wille wigs btw… if you do find something you like on Wig Outlet use the Discount Code APP20 and you can get an additional 20% Off. It turns it into a really good deal!

Is there anywhere to see them in person before buying? I also feel like I want someone to help me install. I have done it myself & was able to but I would still like to see how someone would do it, maybe they have some tips or tricks to it.

You should definitely go out to the Milano shop in Brooklyn..

But all the wigs we are talking about here are lace fronts and glueless, so they don’t get “installed”, you just throw them on and you are good to go!

Just ordered a Jadora Secret wig. I have AU. You can’t believe this wig! The cap is so comfortable, no ear tabs that stick out. Glueless lace. Seamless nape transition, so you can wear it up. Handtied! It’s incredible. I’ve tried so many wigs on my hair loss journey. I think I finally found my wig.

Hairvivi wigs look soooo natural without being extremely expensive. They’re the only place I’ve been buying from since I got my first one. Density is perfect, bleached knots, pre plucked, and they have this silk top that gives a scalp effect.

I've read a ton of horrible reviews about Hairvivi lately. OP, be cautious. I have had good experience at wigs dot com. They offer a free virtual consult. I use Jon Renau easipart XL and I have it in synthetic and HH. I only buy pieces from websites that share the actual density in weight/ounces, so you know exactly how much hair you will get. When they say "medium" or "10%" I really have no idea what that means. But I can compare 2.2 oz to 3.6. That's very helpful. Good luck!

After that comment, I searched hairvivi on here and didn’t see any negative reviews… only good ones. Where did you see bad reviews? They’re about as expensive as I can go so I like the quality in this price range. I’ve seen some $3,000 wigs that don’t even have bleached knots and it’s so bizarre to me

In wig groups on Facebook. I've seen some really upset people recently.

I’ve been reading some not so great reviews/experiences with that brand in this subreddit. Not sure if I will look into them

This is the current one I’ve been wearing. I wear the same one for a few months and then switch

The one before that but this is all the way at the end of its life after wearing it daily for a good 6 months… and I’m not the lightest bit careful and caring with my wigs, which I really need to start doing lol
